• Valve Games... as radio dramas?

Now this is an idea, and not a project. For now anyways. Everyone, EVERYONE always says "Valve should make a TV series about TF2! There should be a HL2 movie! Portal TV series! Ricochet movie!" Ok, maybe not the last one, but everyone wants to see their favorite Valve games jump from video games to TV and movies. But that's a really hard jump. Those shorts that we all love, featuring the TF2 characters? They take a long time to make. And they're not even over 10 minutes long. But there's one media that people almost seem to forget. Radio dramas or audio dramas, as people call them these days. These come from the old days of storytelling- no images, so the people who produced these radio dramas had to use two things: audio and the audience's imagination. Situations like a woman walking down a street while a homeless man plays a banjo were portrayed using only audio. Something that people also seem to forget is that, with the technology we have today, making a radio drama has gotten a lot more easier. So here's the idea I'm proposing. Radio dramas based on their favorite Valve games. Think about it. Writers create original scripts for the radio drama. Voice actors are chosen to portray the characters in these scripts (really important, especially when talking about TF2) Sound editors/mixers (can't really find the right word) mix the voices together with sound effects and even music to create a finished product. And you know what the best part is? The community can do it. There are a lot of awesome writers out there, as there are awesome voice actors, and awesome sound editors/mixers- and even awesome composers! I'm not saying we should go out and do it, I'm simply sharing an idea, and wanting to get feedback from the fine folks here at Facepunch. So, what do you guys think?
Interesting but not needed.
Or we could just stick to comics.
Interesting but not needed.
That's what they said about lightbulbs. (Ok, maybe that's not what they said about lightbulbs)
That's what they said about lightbulbs. (Ok, maybe that's not what they said about lightbulbs)
Warner Brothers said that about sound pictures when silent films were popular. Yea not a good example either but still it's the meaning that counts. I can write a story if your already looking for a writer.
I can write a story if your already looking for a writer.
I'm not. It's not like I'm trying to push this forward as a project. For now, anyways. I want to know people's opnions on this.
I like the opinion actually, as before anyone that wants to start that can contact me for Writing.
I like the opinion actually, as before anyone that wants to start that can contact me for Writing.
I don't want to push it forward so soon because it's really a raw idea. There's no feedback from other people, nothing. I want to hear people's opnions before pushing it forward.
Well as of now Im writing a story for the first one.
Sounds interesting, but how would you do something for TF2? Make up a story?
Sounds interesting, but how would you do something for TF2? Make up a story?
... yes?
Sounds interesting, but how would you do something for TF2? Make up a story?
That's what Im doing now. Getting a story before it gets started. So there will be a story by the time we start.
I love radio dramas mostly because of how they have to explain everything. My family listens to the old Star Wars dramas on road trips. "Oh no, Han! A locked door!" "I'll try blasting it!" *blaster sound* "It WORKED!"
I'll do the voice for Gordon Freeman
I can see this, listening to an L4D drama during a power outtage. That'd be cool. Maybe even a CS or DoD one could work. TF2 would prbably be bigger.
"prbably"? Anyway Here is an exerpt from the story Im writing now in case anyone is still interested.
I was just contemplating quitting being a detective when all of a sudden there was a knock at the door. I beckoned the stranger into my office, but the stranger apparently felt it best to crash through the door. I quickly dashed behind my desk and pulled out my snub nose expecting it to be one of my enemies. I calmly asked the stranger to put his hands up which he did. From the dust I could only make out a giant, gorrila-esque shape. His arms were gargantuan! When the dust cleared I saw to my surprise that the gentleman who had crashed through my door was none other than Saxton Hale, the CEO of Mann Co.
C@C on my writing.
It's beautiful.
"prbably"? Anyway Here is an exerpt from the story Im writing now in case anyone is still interested. C@C on my writing.
Unfitting. He would've crashed through the ceiling, not the wall.
I wrote Door :c
I wrote Door :c
A door is in a wall and Saxton Hale is too big and strong to only crash through the door.
A door is in a wall and Saxton Hale is too big and strong to only crash through the door.
Well Im the writer and I say he goes through a door. [editline]15th August 2011[/editline] also the Detective's Name is Elliot Garland
You could even put fake little Mann Co and similar advertisements between programs. :v:
This has been brought to you by Mann Co.! We get in fights and support Radio Dramas!
Well Im the writer and I say he goes through a door. [editline]15th August 2011[/editline] also the Detective's Name is Elliot Garland
And Valve's writers say he likes to go through the ceiling. Well for his house yes. For visiting a detective, needs to be a door. now stop arguing about it and just accept that Im writing door, is that a big deal for a story now?
Well for his house yes. For visiting a detective, needs to be a door. now stop arguing about it and just accept that Im writing door, is that a big deal for a story now?
No. Sorry for kind of derailing.
I'll narrate.
I'll narrate.
Could we have an example of your voice?
Later. Right now it's past 10PM and I've been doing homework.
Now this is an idea, and not a project. For now anyways.
I just said I'd start on the story so we wouldn't spend 5 pages discussing it.
