• An Open Discussion for Facepunch : Why The hostility towards younger gamers playing games we like?

Hello, Facepunch. I want to have a bit of a debate discussion with you guys, questioning the scary hostility I see online when a younger gamer pops up. I'll admit, I've been guilty of it myself. Just the other day, there was a promotoional event to play the Newest Halo Game, (Anniversary) and there was a really young lad who was lining up, and he was really chipper and excited to be getting a chance. And for an un-imaginable reason, I was kind of annoyed. But why on Earth should I be annoyed? This kid isn't doing anything wrong. He's excited for a game, just like me. We've got a lot in common. But you go onto any major online gaming service, XBLA, Steam, etc, they are instantly assaulted with hundreds of comments about their age, how they're too young, or generally just abused with racial slurs, such as Mexican Jew Lizard. Don't bullshit me guys. Don't say they're too young, don't tell me you never watched Terminator when you were 8 or anything. I've lived in a house with an older brother, I was no stranger to violent games at a young age, I imagine you are most of the same. So why is it's so common to be hostile to the littler gamers? They like what we like. How can we bitch at them if they're enjoying a good game of TF2 or Halo like one of us? I'm just saying, I want more people to just kinda accept everyone. We're all fans here, what does it matter. ALSO, because of my superb powers of clairvoyance, someone will post "OP is obviously a 13 year old faggot" to some extent, I'll make this clear. I'm 15. I've pretty much been playing games since I could. I have a younger brother, and it just pisses me off that people can't seem to be okay with kids playing games too. My little brother's best friend comes over a lot, and he's a cool game fan. His favorite games are Half-Life, Team Fortress, Doom and whatnot. He's into some cool shit. Do I tell him he's too young and should go back to pokemon or something? No... You shouldn't either.
I just can't stand a child's voice.
The fact they don't shut the fuck up.
Okay, that's an excellent point. There is the matter of whiny children. I can understand hatred towards kids who can't STFU and play, but what about a kid just trying to have fun and enjoy the game? Shit still happens to them. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] I clearly missed an essential argument, known as "Refusal to Shut The Fuck Up"
I have no problem with them if they just act normal, but many of them tend to bitch and cry.
OMG U SUCK NOOB PICK UP A WEEL GUN I've been in so many games with this, or kids screaming/crying/raging over Microphone. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] I've even had 4 kids all argue against each other over Microphone.
Pretty much this. Add in the "Hey, Hey, Hey, come look, Hey! Look at this. Hey hey! Look over here! Look what I'm doing!" and you've hit the nail on the head. Also fact that they're (in most cases) extremely unreliable in teambased games makes them rather annoying.
Their voices, and often their attitude. I've played with brats on XBL and I want to turn off the sounds entirely when they start screeching at me for using a "noob tactic". I had a friend on STEAM that acted like an adult, and rarely ever used his mic. It took him telling me before I realized it he was 12 :v:
Kids have a tendancy to pick up and emulate the... worse sides of the gaming community to try and fit in. You'll meet a nice one once in a while, but they try to fit in with the wrong crowd, mostly.
I have no problem with kids that a good, cooperative players. But more often than not they're obnoxious, loud whiners that will complain about everything and have little gaming etiquette. Unfortunately, since the latter outweigh the former, I find that I'm often biased when I hear a nasally, prepubescent voice over the mic.
I'm only annoyed by little kids that are annoying, such as ones that go beyond talking about the game and start babbling/arguing/insulting other people over the mic. Same goes for anybody who's like that really. I never start insulting people that I'm playing with though as I don't care enough to try.
OMG U SUCK NOOB PICK UP A WEEL GUN I've been in so many games with this, or kids screaming/crying/raging over Microphone. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] I've even had 4 kids all argue against each other over Microphone.
Jesus christ somebody help this child, he's 8 years old and already talking about DRIIIVE BYYYYYS!
I hate it when kids try to blame shit on you when it was clearly their fault. Portal 2 Co-op with a 10 year old is worse then death.
It's far more enjoyable to play a game with some mature gamers, they are more tolerant, know how to have fun and don't insult you when you fail. They even laugh about it. Loosing can be fun in different games. Sometimes I even chat with those guys about life in general. If you play with a younger audience, they tend to be a lot more competitive and take things way to seriously and insult you when you don't play like them or to their liking. And the voice is so annoying.
Probably because of the fact that every kid has to have a microphone and has to use it. I have met mature younger gamers, but they are few.
I don't like most adult gamers so it makes sense I don't like the kids ones either
I try not to be mean, and sometimes I'll defend a younger kid if he is being picked on by someone else.
I think it's a case of a few giving the many a bad name, I have too many times come on to one game or another to hear one little shite gobbing off on his mic. Refusal to shup up, and unwarrented self importance make them some of the worst people to play games with.
They dont know when to Shut the fuck up, they're annoying as hell, they have twisted and retarded opinions, they're constantly bringing up subjects like religion and politics, which should not be discussed among friends, their gameplay is generally shit.
Young gamers is a generalized term. I think you mean the younger people of the 4chan gaming community, if you want to be a bit more specific.
My brother is 13 and he is the most annoying fucker you could play with. He rages (because he fucking sucks) a lot over the mic and is a general faggot. Whenever I rage (which is a lot) I unplug the mic; him, no. I don't generally play with the mic on unless I'm playing with friends anyway. The only reason he plays the games he does is because he watches a lot of youtube commentators like pbat and other annoying ones. I have tried to get my brother to buy Serious Sam TFE over the Black Ops map pack but nope. Now he doesn't even play black ops anymore and he has 2 of the map packs. That doesn't mean I haven't played with some cool 12 year olds though, it's just majority are annoying shits.
I don't give a shit who plays what I'm playing just as long as they don't scream down the headset.
OP clearly 12 year old wondering why big boys wont play black ops with him.
My mate from college and I sometimes play games on xbl, then his cousin joins who is like 11 and plays blops religiously. He doesn't shut the fuck up
i swear in some games the mute screen needs to be advertised more clearly
Some are fine. Sure, they may have an annoying voice, but it doesn't really mean that they need to be treated with hostility, so I'll talk to them normally. However, if it's a stereotypical 12 year old COD player with 'Gay', 'homo' or 'fag' being the only adjective they know, that's when I start getting pissed of at them and repeatedly telling them to shut the fuck up, or alternatively mute them.
I really don't encounter kids that often, the only games I do are in Call of Duty and Garry's Mod, and it's really easy to just mute them. [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] Perhaps it happens more often with consoles because even in Call of Duty it's very rare I meet anyone, atleast who has a mic, and that's the only time it's a problem.
I don't really care who I'm playing with unless they're screeching profanities into my ear. It just so happens the majority of times this happens the person offering said profanities haven't had their voice break yet.
I hardly mind them at all actually. Even if they're extremely annoying I'm too busy laughing at them and the people telling the kid to shut the fuck up.
i love little kids and games when everybody gets mad at them because they're losing and so they have to sing big time rush out of the recess of their mind because it's the only way to cope with dying so often the server suddenly gets interesting
