Hey,
I don't post here much, but I'm thinking of a couple of concepts for a new sourcemod.
Right now, i'm codenaming it "NoireTec"
Couple of things to note about the sourcemod:
3rd Person Shooter
Multiplayer only
4 Classes
Noire type of style and feel
Balanced gameplay
I'm currently looking for volunteers (you won't be paid as this is a free mod). Now everyone will be credited and everyone's putting a vote up in this project. If you wish to contact me shoot an email to karmaaaftw@gmail.com or post in the thread below any work that you've started. I'll simply overlook the collaborative builds we make and suggest ideas to the team. I'm not giving out my steam until I get a team together. And sadly we can't work together in real life, but I live in Australia and due to monetary purposes being in the U.S and starting up a studio or whatever is impossible. I'll try and work out a system that can't be abused by me or any other team memeber or outside. Any work is welcomed, and finer details will be made to a trusted team of nice and awesome people.
If you believe I'm not contributing enough I willt ry and learn more skills :D

THIS IS A SERIOUS PROJECT
It's not a scam of any sort. I'm wanting to make soemthing for everyone to enjoy and I hope to find people, good people who wish to help.

You're a modeler?
Can you show us some of your previous works?

so basically, you want us to join your team when you have no media, and are implying all you'll do is suggest ideas and "supervise". not to mention you don't seem to have a good idea of what positions are needed for a mod team. "coders" and "programmers" are the same thing, and a "hud maker" would be someone who does graphic design. it takes a lot to make a mod, and thinking that people will just walk up join without knowing your game's art style, vision, or gameplay will not work.
[editline]a[/editline]
and "a noire type feel" is not a good art style description.
If you continued to read, I explained how I'm willing to help others and learn new things. And I know coders and programmers are the same mostly. Coding I find is more scripts than actual C++.
I'd rather you read what I'm saying than outline my faults, which I've tried correcting.
I understand it takes alot. i'm based off team work. I've given a description and as I added above. I'm willing to take any concepts and suggestions. I'll also suggest my own when i get around to it. Right now here in Australia it's almost midnight, I can't simply make some things in 5 seconds....

Ahem.
Who is this directed to?
I hope this is not an excuse for not being able to show what you did previously, as a modeler.

the reason i outlined your faults is so you could correct them.
generally, you should have some practice work to show us, or some sort of proof that you have experience in modeling. it's good that you're willing to learn new things, but getting good at a certain thing takes a pretty long while, depending on the area.
also, you've been mature about responding, at the very least, and have said a pretty ok reason for not giving out info, so good job
Oh look, it's the ideas guy again. How many times have I read this thread?
Eh, I have some good experience with photoshop and I can make maps.
Show some modeling work and I will consider helping.
Can I be the ideas guy?
please tell us more about how you are going to maintain a noir-vibe in a multiplayer shooter.
will your character spout inner monologue going "Pr0sniper420 collapsed on the floor. His chest was riddled with holes caused by my now smoking Snub Nose. A faint +20xp appeared in the corner of my eye." ?
At the moment it sounds like Max Payne multiplayer, only without bullet time. Noire style gives good options for heavy stylising of lighting and colours, which is always good. Have you started on anything at all? Some props, character sketches, environment concepts maybe?
People are unlikely to want to help out until some clear ideas and direction are generated.
Your goal should be trying to be nearly as good as Spider Man: Source, which was a successful sourcemod that was the best superhero game since Superman 64.

Exactly.
Not again
if i were to ever make my own mod i would make development really open and show all the work we do to make sure people would know it's actually be done.
i mean really this secretive-right-from-the-start bullshit is stupid. You can keep stuff to yourself after you've got a solid team and the audience knows you actually have content.
Just show us fucking pics or tell us more about it, I can assure you no one wants to steal your idea based on how bad it sounds right now.

I hope that's just a really bad joke.
There needs to be a rule about not starting sourcemod threads if you aren't going to contribute code/maps/textures/models yourself.
I hope that's just a really bad joke.
Didn't say what I emailed him about :D
Nah, but I'm a web designer and I thought I'd get some experience by making a site for the mod when IF it goes through, just trying to be nice guys and get something to put on my portfolio as well
I'm actually surprised that people are still starting Source mod projects when you've got UDK/CE3/Unity now.
I'm actually surprised that people are still starting Source mod projects when you've got UDK/CE3/Unity now.
because i've never heard of those
because i've never heard of those
Must be pretty ignorant then.
because i've never heard of those
wtf
Oh look another multiplayer mod.
Don't make it, nobody will play it.
I'm actually surprised that people are still starting Source mod projects when you've got UDK/CE3/Unity now.
man I just started messing with UDK
it's like sooo much easier than source
I can increase team morale by 20% if you pay me $20 an hour.
Also, HUD maker? Isn't that generally the coder?

It's a mix between a graphic designer and a programmer. The designer makes the elements, the programmer makes them work.
man I just started messing with UDK

Having tried both I can easily say no
they're just about the same.
Source has limitations in areas it really shouldn't, and is a bitch to publish
UDK lacks decent structure on a lot of the basic elements
I prefer Source due to the Linux and Mac support, and the fact that the engine is kept up-to-date by Valve when it comes to small changes/bug fixes (even then we're still at the 2007 engine version nndfgdfg)
Can't wait to play the game.
Literally.
