• Is Capcom A Bastard Company Now?

Okay, so there's been lots of Capcom rage all over the internet, whether necessary or not. For those not in the know, let me break it down; - Mega Man games all in production were cancelled unceremoniously with no new game announcements; Legends 3 was the bigger hit of this, as the fans were submitting ideas / designs and Capcom promised a 'prototype' demo. The demo was never released, the entire production was scrapped and shut down (with fan designs and ideas submitted now copyrighted by Capcom), and the sudden shutdown was blamed on lack of support from the fans. - Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Announced two days after Legends 3's cancellation, you get: six new stages, twelve new characters, tweaks and rebalances, and Spectator Mode, all for the price of $39.99. Characters include the return of Strider Hiryu, and the introduction of characters like Phoenix Wright, Firebrand, Nemesis, and Frank West. On Marvel's side, though, we get Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange and two other hero characters (whom I don't remember and seemed kind of nondescript, but I don't know my Marvel so I could be wrong). It feels like Ultimate caters to the Capcom fans more, for one, but many people are bitching that what should be DLC is being repackaged as a retail game (which doesn't add-on to the original purchase; it's completely standalone). This example, however, is far more merciful than; - Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. $39.99 just like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - for four new characters (two of which come from Street Fighter 3 and two of which are super modes of Ryu and Akuma), the Replay Channel, and rebalances / tweaks. Forty dollars for less than half of what Ultimate MvC3 gets. And on the day of release, Capcom was already putting out costume packs that cost five to six dollars. That's right; MvC3's two DLC characters cost as much as costumes for Street Fighter IV characters do. The only real selling points are the Replay Channel and that it brings back SFIV to the PC. (EDIT: Rumor has it that Capcom has also stated that they're going to release a new '2012 Edition' follow-up next year.) (Edit 2: According to guicool-BR-, 27X, and LegndNikko, Arcade Edition's update is primarily DLC/free for consoles; the retail is for PC users and includes Super Street Fighter VI due to that not being released for the PC, so this is less of a complaint and more of something I should've researched before complaining about.) Some people might figure business is business, some figure the Japanese economy might be hurting from the severe damage earlier this year, while others take the more extreme side and rave for boycotts of Capcom among other things. What does Facepunch think about the situation? (If any of my statistics are incorrect or if anyone wishes to correct me or the like, please do so. I don't want to be spouting lies by accident.)
Not really, they're just lazy. They've been doing that since the early 90's with all the street fighter games and they do good things sometimes. Like Steel Battalion. I played it a couple of times and I have to say it's one of the best fucking Mech games ever. [editline]8th August 2011[/editline] The legends thing is bizarre though.
Capcom has not made a single game I have been interested in for a while now. I probably would have honestly gotten a 3DS for Legends 3 but oh well. The only problem I have with it is that they announced it and then went "oh we actually didn't greenlight it yet lol". I would have been perfectly happy if they had never announced it to begin with.
I'm irritated more that they announce a game before they're ready to announce it. Or what pixelnator said.
They only seem to be capable of making mediocre game now.
I don't think I've ever been excited over one of their game releases.
I just want them to localize more Monster Hunter games. I would be happy with that. But I kinda doubt they will.
They really don't seem to be listening to their fans. I don't get how they thought no one wanted MML3 yet, at the same time are continuing development with DmC.
At least their games are cheaper than normal.

I'm pretty sure a fan of Marvel wouldn't think the same.
No more Phoenix Wright localizations = No more Capcom purchases for me
Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange are nondescript characters? I'm pretty sure a fan of Marvel wouldn't think the same.
My bad, i'll correct that then.
I think I read somewhere that the sales for Jill and Shuma were not good at all so instead of selling DLC characters they are just going to do UMVC3.

When they announced AE for the console and PC, console users had (don't know about now) to buy the DLC separately from the game, while PC gets everything in one package, cheaper than most games. The Costume pack is cosmetic and doesn't include any characters, unlike MvC3 DLC. The '2012 Edition' will be a rebalance to the characters' tiers and etc, and not much is known now.

Capcom wanted 60,000 Megaman units for guaranteed sales AND SAID SO, they got like 11,000 singnatures. Do the Math. 3. AE's rebalance will be free. 4. Like most japanese companies, Capcom is about ten years behind everyone else in content delivery and application. As long as current management is in place, don't expect any changes any time soon.
capcom just has an obsession with Re releases. They just do it a lot for a ton of their games. It's natural to them because people buy it. Did the RE Mercenaries game on 3DS even have any new content besides the stuff ported over to it?
I could have sworn that the Arcade edition for SSFIV was DLC for the consoles. So you're argument for that one is kinda null.
He was talking about it for the PC but he didn't realize that it also included SSFIV
Right, included a tidbit about that, my bad.
and the introduction of characters like Phoenix Wright, Firebrand, Nemesis, and Frank West.
Actually, Frank West was introduced in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom. I just wanted to point that out.
