What is it?
Shift 2: Unleashed (also known as Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed) is an upcoming racing video game, 17th title in the Need for Speed franchise, under development by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Electronic Arts. Shift 2: Unleashed is scheduled for release on 8 March 2011 in North America and two days later on 10 March in Europe.
Shift 2: Unleashed is the direct sequel to the critically acclaimed 2009 video game Need for Speed: Shift and expands on the gameplay and features introduced with the original. Shift 2: Unleashed will feature 130+ cars and 100 different tracks, which players can compete in several types of races. Players will also be able to compete online. The game will also feature new features such as an in-helmet cam, night-time racing and the Autolog feature introduced with Hot Pursuit.
The Gameplay
Shift 2: Unleashed expands on the gameplay and features introduced with the original. It has been announced that it will contain the 2010 GT1 World Championship and GT3 European Championship among lots of other racing content, as well as several new tracks, including legendary circuits such as Bathurst and Suzuka. Other new features include night racing and an in-helmet camera, as well as the Autolog feature that was originally seen in Criterion's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. The game will also feature a new physics engine, new elite handling model and more control over all the controller settings (sensitivity, deadzones, steering aids etc.).
It will be the first game in the Need for Speed series to feature more than 100 cars. It is confirmed the game will feature 130+ cars and 100 different tracks.
Dropping the "Need for Speed" name
Marcus Nilsson, the executive producer of Shift 2: Unleashed, said this about why they decide to drop the Need for Speed name for Shift 2, "If you think about the Need for Speed games you've played; Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted, Underground, they're very arcadey and action-oriented. Shift is going after a different audience, a sim audience, and it's about driving cars the way they feel in real life. So to not confuse the consumer - don't take me wrong, Shift 2: Unleashed is still a Need for Speed game inside the Need for Speed family, but that family has different legs. Hot Pursuit fits the action games; Shift 2 is sim-like." Nilsson also said that Slightly Mad Studios has worked with the feedback from critics, "AI was a big one; it was too aggressive. Handling on really fast cars was another one, and we've worked very hard on the physics model for Shift 2. We've basically just improved across the board."About the handling model, did he say "Shift 2 is going to be a sim experience probably unlike anything you've ever experienced before.

Does anyone still buy these games?
Because we need more Need for Speed games.

Retarded question, anyhow I hope it's going to be good can't wait for Rfactor 2 though.

It's a valid question.
It seems like there's a new Need for Speed game every 6 months.
Need For Speed appears to be going the way of Sonic.
Appears? It went that way long ago
Does anyone still buy these games?
i would buy these games if they stop making these silly simulator style racing games and go back to good old need for speed carbon style games...
i miss the good old days of need for speed... :saddowns:
this thread made me go all nostalgia. im finding my most wanted disk and installing at as soon as i find it.
(most wanted because i finished carbon like five times...)
I wont miss the days of U, U2 Carbon and Most Wanted, because I still have them.
Need for speed was really the game that people bought because you could mod cars and smash cops and you had Forza for sim racing and shit.
HAH! Need for speed, a game where you mod your cars... Not true, look at the classics, like high stakes and the original hot pursuit. The most you could do to your car is change its color, and that was good. All the ricer shit they added in underground and beyond? Useless and stupid looking.
They need another Underground.
hot pursuit the new one was good
shift sucked though
I heard a rumor that they were reviving Underground for next year's game

More like Guitar Hero.
Hot Pursuit is where the trail should end, but I guess people like these try hard sim NFS games.
They need to fix Need for Speed World or make a new one that doesn't have shitty lag.
Need For Speed Underground needs to come back.
Saw a clip of it on the IGN Daily fix and it looks impressive.

I want a Most Wanted 2, Underground and Underground2 were excellent, but MW was better IMO.
Where's Underground 3?
Need for speed series is a blight upon racing games.
The first ones were fun, but jesus we don't need 200000000000000 NFS games.
Just remake the old games already. Jesus Christ. There's obviously an audience for one because the main selling point of Criterion Hot Pursuit was that it was "going back to its roots."
Needless to say, that's not what the game turned out to be and it left a lot of people disappointed. You would think with all this no-risk same game bullshit, they wouldn't have a problem with making a remake. Almost every true remake such as Perfect Dark was a success. EA owns the rights so the don't even need to fight anyone over the rights to make a remake. Just make one already. Damn.
I mean, even if they think it is risky, they can just give the devs a low budget like they did with 1943 and release it on XBLA/PSN. I'd buy it in an instant!
I do appreciate Citerion for helping with that but hey, never know it may be a good game!
I don't think Hot Pursuit was a bad game per se, I was disappointed by it not being what they said it'd be, though.
It's definitely a fun and enjoyable game, though.

Don't even talk about Underground here.
Disregard my earlier comment about it being like Guitar Hero, it looks awesome.
Imagine if they combined the realism with illegal street racing.

I still have Porsche Unleashed, Hot pursuit, and High Stakes.

The Helmet cam feature sounds brilliant.
Hopefully it will still support head-tracking as well though.
I ordered this at work this week, can't wait! For $10 it's a steal heh. I ordered Hot Pursuit when it came out but then I realized I don't like arcade racers anymore... So hopefully this will be good, I got excited when I saw the trailer thing in Hot Pursuit
I'll probably lose interest pretty quick though, I always end up going back to Richard Burns Rally for racing/rallying... I never seem to finish my EA games and yet it's where I work hah
codemasters needs to make a dirt 3 already
