An intriguing rumour has cropped up in the November 2011 (Wait what?) issue of the Xbox World magazine stating that id Software’s upcoming first-person shooter Doom 4 will release for next-generation consoles – most likely to take advantage of the distinct increase in horsepower offered by the new hardware.
The highly anticipated title will supposedly run on an extremely powerful engine, hinted as looking ”eye-destroying” by the publication – the beefy visuals will be enhanced by a new C++ scripting language supporting a massive increase in detail and graphical fidelity.
John Carmack recently confirmed with Gamasutra that Doom 4′s single-player component will run at 30FPS, with multiplayer supporting silky smooth, 60FPS visuals.
”In the Doom 4 project, we decided Doom 4 Multiplayer will run at 60 frames per second, while the single player is 30 frames per second, so you can have twice as many demons coming at you.”
During an interview with Gamespot at E3 2011, Carmack cryptically revealed that once RAGE ships to retail outlets, the highly talented development team will ramp up production on Doom 4 – ensuring the title avoids a lengthy, RAGE-like development process. Check out the rumour below and in the latest issue of Xbox World magazine, available now.
”Talking of eye-destroying engines, what are id doing now that RAGE is about to ship? DOOM 4, that’s what. Don’t expect it for this gen though. It’ll be Xbox Next for sure.”
Ofcourse it will be.

You mean the darkness will be three times better?!
With all due seriousness, I am excited for this.
If it's a launch title, you can pretty much expect 1:1 adoption, which is nothing but good news.

Definitely, world has advanced the contrast to its highest level.

People should get banned for making the same lame, repetitive joke that everyone on this forum has heard before.

People get banned for memes. Same thing.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new specs are for the next-gen consoles.
aww, i was expecting it to be a previous gen title
At this point, I'm really not excited for a new generation of consoles.

Was that supposed to be against Doom?
If so, go back to playing COD.

I'm not really excited about the consoles themselves either, but their more powerful hardware hopefully will stop restricting games that are ported from console to PC that much.
Maybe it will actually be scary rather than jumpy.

I'm hoping for a Doom 64-style atmosphere.

Crappy, as always.

It will for the first year, and then it will become obsolete.
We go through that with every 'generation' and it's pretty obvious that this is the way things would be
They're waiting for OLED technology to advance so that they can use true blacks instead of backlit blacks for it.
Oh look, there is already a Screenshot

Next gen xbox come at me :v: Gonna have some fun with that.
I'd rather some darkness than have everything look like over-lit real-life hdr. Damn kids. Get off my lawn.

Just what we need
I hope for some classic Doom style gameplay.
which means Doom 4 will be on PC before the next gen of consoles?

I guess they're getting serious
Doom 3 looked amazing, when it was new
When you look across all of the games of today, Doom 3 and HL2 are still quite impressive.

Still looks good now, and open source code is always a good thing.
