Underground animal farm - Games

Hey guys, could anyone help me with making an underground animal farm? I've heard you don't need much space, just grass, enough light and be like 24 blocks away from the "place" to let the mobs spawn. Try using glowstone

Get rid of all of the grass above it.

Huh. I built an underground farm on Hangover's server, and before I got things going there was just grass,and animals kept spawning everywhere.

Wow I never knew you could do this! so all you have to do is... -Well lit area (torches or glowstone?) -Grass -No grass blocks above spawning area -24 block distance Is that everything? because I really want to do this :)

You need to go deeper.

Thanks for the answers. And yes I'll hafta go deeper because I don't think that replacing all those grass blocks on the surface is a go. Can I hit bedrock level and still do this?

Underground animal farms does not work anymore since Notch modified the way animals spawn in 1.6. A few sheep or chicken may spawn occasionally, but it's nothing comparated to the days before 1.6. you could get a mobspawner. that works wonderfully.

They don't spawn like monsters, where all they need is conditions to be met. I have one similar to this only bigger, a few spawn, but only once in a great while. It might actually be chunk based, like slimes.

But since this has been modified, animals spawn very rarely at low levels, no matter it is day or night. I remember getting spammed with mobs during night when I used these animal farms. It was like 20 sheep, 10 pigs and 10 chickens at the same time (ear rape guaranteed). Now the best I've seen is 3 sheep together. The rest stays empty.

:( I wish dungeons were more common and there was an ability to mine the mob spawner. Without mods that is.

notch is adding animals to the farmable stuff in 1.8 though so maybe it'll be even easier when he does
