Two years ago Valve hired the talented team behind the popular top down co-op mod Alien Swarm.
Since then they have been busy working on the Left 4 Dead Series, and now Portal 2.
In addition to the game, Valve will also release the complete code base for Alien Swarm.
This includes updates to the Source engine SDK and full Steamworks integration.
If you’ve ever thought about developing a mod on the Source engine with Steamworks, this release provides more insight and examples for using Steamworks in game production.

Dedicated Servers for $14.00 Brohoster.com
Okay so how do you get custom models in game? How does the l4d2 addon system work? I have models but i can't figure it out and too many people are busy with map making rather than weapon/character modding. So how do you do it?
i am surprised there isnt a achievement_farm_exp map yet
Brohoster is selling Alien Swarm servers at $14/month. :smug:
Listen to the following audio track: http://www.mediahump.com/audio/2412/
(For all of those complaining about how it's a ripoff for 4 slots, this server takes about 500MB RAM compared to the 300MB that a 24-slot TF2 server will take)
Because you have to go out on the internet and download it to connect.
Hey guys im still kinda new but im looking for some people to play with so go ahead and add me please im looking for a game now.

Or you can just join a free dedicated server with your friends.
Improved Alien Swarm desktop icons. Blu is the game, and red is the SDK

Sure, it's mainly meant for those clans who want their own group servers. Just like L4D.
L4D2's shitty add-on system is going to kill this game. This shitty add-on system is the reason why custom maps never caught up in l4d2. There are plenty of excellent custom campaigns for l4d/l4d2 but nobody is playing them because no one is willing to go on a map hunt on some random website like it's 1996 and then make sure that his buddies also have that same fuckin map downloaded and installed.
/rant (that's my only problem with the game)
Also:
*Unrelated chat*
We should have a patch coming out today that fixes a bunch of problems and more bug fixes to come.
Well, it seems easy to create a campaign. But the tutorial on the Valve website is a little vague as to where everything is placed in the subfolders for an addon.
Alright here's the new alien swarm icons

On not being able to open particle systems in the editor:
I've found the bug and have a fix. It won't be in the next patch (which is already on its way), but probably the one after.
Someone mentioned not being able to open HLMV, but I'm not seeing the problem. If you have more info, please describe to me. Thanks!

Yeah, the add-on system fucking blows.

I'm sorry for bringing this up repeatedly but are you guys planning on making improvements to the add-on system or at least make downloading from the server an option?
Last time I played residential, I saw in the mission summery that the swarm egg picture is an elevator and the elevator escape has the swarm egg picture.

Wait, in L4D2 if you didn't have a map, it redirected you to the site to download it. Its what the server does, just manually AND it cuts down 90% load times. What the problem, are you really that lazy that you didn't download the good maps and your friends were that lazy that they didn;t?
Is there a way to enable split screen yet?
Can someone please post pictures of the shaman? It is the only alien other than the queen not featured in the campaign.
Are they fixing the reload-ammo exploit?

You'd be surprised how little it takes to turn off a large majority of people from playing custom maps. Usually just seeing a download bar is enough for a lot, much less having to go somewhere else to download it.

Are you downloading anything...
Thank fuck for the new thread, I was tired of seeing 'Alien Swarm: SOURCE'. It's not called that :colbert:

I liked it. AS:S :smug:
I found a video featuring all of the aliens not in the game. I think they can somehow be implemented in custom maps like the queen was. It would be interesting to see.

Whoa, an exploit that i don't know, care to tell me how it works ? :smug:
I seem to be getting problems with the model viewer in ASSDK. Whenever I try to open up the model viewer it crashes. Is there something I need to do?
I'm working on a model for Special Weapons. To make him a giant or something. I dunno.
