Well, it's that time. Best Games of 2013 AND Best Games of Last-Gen Discussion
4 replies, posted
Alright folks, it's been a special year for videogames. Finally, 8 years after the Xbox 360's release to the world, we've entered a new console generation, and with it, some hope for a resurgence in creativity and pushing of technical boundaries that comes with a hardware refresh. Our last-gen consoles are far from dead (last I heard, both Microsoft and Sony plan to support the respective consoles for at least 3-5 years, though the Wii seems to be out), but now that we've taken that next step it's time to reflect, alongside the normal "Best games of 20xx" discussion. So, this is a nominations thread as well as a discussion thread; post your favorites of 2013 and your favorites of the past...well, 8 years; you don't necessarily need to have a paragraph explaining why you chose what you chose, but definitely be ready to back it up if someone asks why. In the interest of this (hopefully) not turning into a shit-flinging contest though, try and remember that people will inevitably enjoy games you won't and vice versa; that doesn't make them wrong. That in mind, I'll get us started.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot, but those are the ones that come to mind.
Dust: An Elysian Tail should be up there somewhere.
That game is a goddamn masterpiece.
This might be technically cheating since it's a HD remake, but MGS: HD Collection. Specifically 3, I LOVE that game.

That's one I've seen talked about here and there, but I never gave it a go. Is it worth the $15 on Steam?

Yes. It looks nice.
The PC port is one of the best I have seen.
Soundtrack is excellent.
8 hours of gameplay if you speed through it and bypass all side missions. Otherwise 12+ hours.
Great writing.
Great story.
Interesting characters.
Fluid combat.
Decent RPG system.
It never feels like the game is cheating you, and never feels unbalanced.
All-in-all I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
