It is one of my biggest pet peeves when I get a game and find out there are no console command cheats.
I'm trying to figure out why devs stopped putting them in games.
"Play the game normally" is a lame response because everyone enjoys playing a video game in their own way. I like using cheats because I find it fun. You can't tell me it's not fun because in my opinion, it's loads of fun.
Just download a Trainer. They pretty much give you cheats such as unlimited money and health ect.

I do, but some are unstable and crash the game. Others turn out to be fake and are some form of malware.
Pretty much nofunallowed.jpg since Xbox 360 / PS3
GTA seems to be the only game with fun cheats
For some reason I hated cheat codes you could unlock in-game, like through collecting items. It just felt wrong, I had to look up my cheats online or by word of mouth back in the day for it to be exciting.
Game Genie, Game Shark
Achievements spelled the death of cheats.
Although there are cheats in some games with achievements, the achievements are just disabled for that session.

When I was 9 I used to run a store out of my garage where people could buy cheat codes for a dollar or something. We even put up homemade posters around town and everything. "Level Up: Cheat Code Megastore", we called it. Got like 30 customers altogether, lol.
Then police took them down and told my mom I couldn't do this because I didn't have the proper permits.

I remember that cheats were used for testing games.
Replacing Luke with Biggs Darklighter... good times.
High fives if you know what I'm talking about.

Saints Row, SR2, and probably SR3 all have fun as shit cheats too.
Because with all the piss easy games now a days you don't need cheats.
Because they don't know how to make money off of them.
Oh wait:

Because achievements.
And pre-orders.
maybe no one just cares about cheat codes anymore
It's not like it matters, there's always some cunt that will download a program online, and run it in online games and cheat. How fun is it to unlock all the achievements in a single button press, or have your game Aim for you and headshot everyone in an instant? It completely defeats the purpose of even playing the game
Now for games like Just Cause and Grand Theft Auto, I could see including some fun commands to fuck around with, but games like Red Orchestra or Planetside... Fuck the Fuck off with cheats

I'm pretty sure he's talking about cheat codes in the traditional sense, not the modern aimbot shit
in fact I'm pretty sure most SP games don't have an aimbot cheat code anyways, HL2 had a little "aim assist", but that's as close as it gets.
I just hate cheats in general, and I'll only endorse them for Singleplayer Sandbox games, and Multiplayer with only Friends
I hope this doesn't turn into another thread filled to the brim with groundless generalizations about how all modern games are shit.
Plus, everyone's acting like Achievements are a bad thing. They aren't. They give you something to try to do after completing the game and they make you feel like you accomplished something.

I'm pretty sure that's what he means
I would add "regular singleplayer games after you've beaten them once", after all, CoD4 had intel rewards, W@W had death cards, the original Metal Gear (yeah that one) had the infinite ammo bandanna
Cheat codes were (usually) only there in the first place for developers to test their games. Remember those level select screens? Those were so the developer didn't have to play through the whole game to test the second to last level. The same thing for the warp pipes in mario. Invincibility was there to make sure enemies and bosses worked correctly, without the developers having to run the risk of starting the level over just to test the final boss. Remember the debug mode in the old sonic games? Those were so the developers could test items without actually having to find them.
Cheats aren't needed anymore. They can just create empty maps and place items/NPCs/obstacles then run it on their computers without having to compile the entire game and run it on the console.
Well guys, while you argue I'm gonna go play a generic modern game and beat it in 15 minutes and then use cheats to play it again when I'm done - oh wait.
Nowadays, the "Cheats" were replaced with easter eggs. Something else to look forward to/for, but not worth a complete playthrough.

I still remember that after all these years.
I have a feeling on most consoles it's due to:

More PC games have cheats than consoles.
Red Dead Redemption had pretty fun cheats, I think.

I do miss cheats like the Big Heads in Goldeneye, though.
Anyone remembers HESOYAM?
