If you're one who textures/edits the phong and exponent textures, then you know what I'm talking about.
I've noticed that when SDK Model Viewer actually got fixed, that the phong and exponent textures were missing, I verified my GCF, they were still missing. I already emailed Gabe about this, but I'm just wondering If I could get some feedback.

Can't be fixed even if you tried to force DirectX 9 (believe me I tried). You'll just have to wait.

Today of all days I decided, for once, I would experiment with some phong textures. It's like they [I]know[/I].
EDIT no phong mapping or bump mapping.
Use the Portal 2 SDK. There the mdlviewer still works.
