Mapper: Help NASA. Get achievements, cool photos, satisfaction.

NASA have done it again, but no big american TTS this time.
Mapper is a browser-based "game" where you examine photos taken deep underwater in Canadian lakes.
You examine the photos, tag them based on what you see in them, and move on. Each 25 photos you tag bags you some points.
A lot of the photos you'll see will be sand, algae and these things called microbialites - They basically look like weird rocks - But occasionally you'll find logs, rocks, and even discarded rubbish! Woo!
And if you're -quite- lucky, you'll find something really cool, maybe a photo of a submarine, diver, or, like me, some random skulls (Or what look like them to me anyway).
Take a look at http://www.getmapper.com/index.php - It's completely free, and actually surprisingly fun!
You'll have to pass a tutorial to start tagging photos, to get the hang of what things look like and how you should tag them. It's not that hard, and if you make a mistake you can go back and try again.
Any photos you tag as "Cool" will be automatically put in your "Cool" album to look back on, and you can see other people's "Cool" photos too!
Have a poke at it, see what you think. Believe it or not, this will actually help NASA's search for life in the universe. You can get some details on the front page.

You don't need to be able to describe them, just know what's algae, what's dark sediment, etc.
this sounds fucking INTENSE
How excactly does this help with finding life in the universe ?
this IS fun. Tried it out.

Click "Learn more" on the main page. Basically these Microbialites were one of the original forms of life on Earth, and were "The only form of life for the first billion years of its history".
The more we learn about them then we can get an idea of where to look for them.

Oh fuck, we're doomed.
Game of the year.

Pretty much you're all just helping them find cool shit underwater that they can just then go grab, thanks to you. Shit like sunken ships with lots of riches on as an example, which you could have looted yourself.

Uh. No. Anything like that they'd have found, this is documenting every single part of the lakebed, what's there and what kind of plant life there is.
Mapping out an area like a lakebed in massive detail like this is a similar technique as they would use in mapping the surface of an area of mars or the moon or wherever they're planning to send things to.

Just got a batch from Kelly Lake. Exciting stuff.
I also got a night time batch which was cool, but it was followed by two of purely sediment and one of purely algae.
This is actually pretty cool.
