Quick Read:I was just wondering if anybody on FP plays Silkroad online (or wants to join) , I know i do...alot. But if anybody wants to play with me anytime i'm on the server Neptune. My in game name is Gavin. The Trademark of this game is the jobbing system it has. You can choose either to be a thief hunter or trader.Traders transport goods from city to city to make a profit. Hunters protect the traders caravans and thieves try to rob the traders caravan. There are two different races European and Chinese. Between the two races you can choose many classes. Now for the games situation. This game i believe has the ingredients to be one of the best mmos out there. The problem is due to a combination of the company Joymax's incompetence and a large amount of bots (Player bots or gold bots) the game is slowly dieing. Now there are a few servers with active legit English players but not enough. I am looking for some Facepunch members who are willing to try something new and are aware of the amount of grind you have to put into this game that want to join me on the server Neptune.
Last time I played it was grind grind grind, meet a bot, grind more grind grind...
Last time I played it was grind grind grind, meet a bot, grind more grind grind...
Well there is definitely a bot problem in the game and the exp rates are Korean to say the least. But over the years it has gotten better (less bots more content), but the main thing that gets people is the grind (what made the bot problem in the first place) I don't know if you would want to come back to the game or not kinda depends on how much time your willing to put into it. I've played quite a few mmo's and this one as far as the gameplay is the best by far.
Apparently, Silkroad is still pretty popular and happens to be one of the top F2P games. Though, it appears to me that the game is infested with people who live in places that don't speak English, which means the demographic is more focused on the foreign players. I'm not entirely sure though.

That being said there are still some pretty active English speaking community's on my server just stay away from the servers located in turkey... I've been playing on and off for a few years now and 3 years ago it was almost 100% English now its more like 10-30% depending on what server to go to. Oh and i failed to mention on the OP that Joymax (Owners of Silkroad Online) refused to do anything to control the botting for about 2 years until recently. I think the game is slowly making a comeback and maybe even soon it will be alot more relevant in the mmo world. And if anybody is thinking about joining please read a guide first. (High Learning Curve)

I join server and find players speaking different languages.

Oh and your best bet for a good server is Athens they have a high amount of legit players and the server is fairly new so you can probably find a some people who would level with you. (yes its even better than my server)
Interesting. Maybe I'll actually download it tonight and play it in the morning, or after school. Thanks, Never.
Yeah anytime.
I remember this. Yes, it's a grind fest. Got to level 35 I think? Also, bots. They take up server slots and you have to wait for ages to get in. The developers decided to remedy this by selling tokens in the micro-transaction shop which enables you to join a server immediately.

Not anymore Joymax fixed it by banning alot of bots, bots are still a problem but nowadays you can actually get into the servers easily. And If you get used to the grind you will find levels much more rewarding IMO. Im level 66 and I got their legit. You can make up for being low level by knowing how to play your character to a certain point. I say this because i can beat players level 70-80 consistently. As for the selling of the tokens they let you get into the servers guaranteed and also give you %200 normally exp.
I might reroll if I find a working bot :v:
I believe i detect sarcasm, but then again this is what many people have said to me seriously and sarcasm is very hard to detect with text. So if I may ask is that a serious response :P? (and believe me I know that this must sound stupid if this is in fact sarcasm)

I would honestly love to look more into this but the fact that I can't even access the website whilst on my mac kills it for me- Not even going to waste the time to look at it on bootcamp ._.
I don't understand the Korean/Asian mentality that enjoys games with so much grind in them... Full Time jobs that you hate are more exciting and give better rewards, yet people look to games like this for enjoyment? I'll never understand it
sweet. actually silkroad is now alot more easier to level, they cut down the quest trouble by 1/3 and increased the exp of it by 3x. so quite an improvement. i got a warrior (borntopwn) on Hera, and i started again and i gained 2 levels in less that 3 hours, almost no grind.

I'll never understand it
I know were your coming from I've thought the same thing many times. Until recently I have always thought that if the game lowered the amount of exp you have to get the game would be so much better. Now i believe that if the system wasn't abused (botting) it would yield much greater rewards. The idea of grinding very large amounts of exp is that you if the work is harder you will enjoy the levels more. I think the idea is pretty solid: work harder and the reward will feel better. This works to a certain extent but after a while i do believe it gets ridiculous. There was once a private server that had x20 rates or something but after it started to directly compete with Joymax's international player-base they shut ESRO (the private server) down due to the fact that they did in fact set up the server illegally. This showed Silkroad's full potential, their server wasn't up very long and before it shutdown they had to stop registration because they had maxed out the servers capability. The reason why people enjoy it is this: if it is harder to grind it means when you cap it is a very big accomplishment. It also gives people somewhat of an authority compared to other games (World of Warcraft capped characters in that game don't automatically get respect). I personally don't agree with the grind rates but I think its worth it as the game is very rewarding the higher level you get. Sorry for the wall of text on that one
Issue is: There's EXP and SP, EXP levels you, SP is for your to level mastery lvl and mastery skills A char to be useful needs to have his masteries / skills leveled The higher the gap between your lvl and your mastery lvl (for example, your lvl is 30, mastery is 25, that's gap 5) the more SP you get, the slower your lvl (note that with GAP 0, you won't have enough SP sometimes even for a single mastery) Result: People get "powerfarmed" for 1million SP, afk for weeks, and even 1million isn't enough for max lvl Game is about the silk run trade, but since there isn't any protection for lvl differences, it's only good if you're at max lvl So either bot, or play legit for 2 years (not really exaggerating) to enjoy 1 new feature (There's also the fortress, but you need to be maxed there too) [editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
I personally don't agree with the grind rates but I think its worth it as the game is very rewarding the higher level you get.
Staying in front of the town gape doing PVP, killing low lvl uniques with 1 or 2 skills and going once a week to the fortress All that button mashing for 2 years sure was rewarding

Sure you can bot to get there and yeah it sucks watching people get past you with little or no effort but I respect the game enough not to be part of the problem. Secondly, about the powerfarming this i agree with you is complete shit. I don't however think it is very hard. Its the most boring part of leveling but it doesn't take that long to do it legit with a 9 gap. Lastly you say that only 1 or two features open up when you cap. There are more such as the arena, and the Alexandria dungeon thing.
ITT: Op is korean
As I remember, this was just your run of the mill genric, uninspired, Korean grind fest.
As I remember, this was just your run of the mill genric, uninspired, Korean grind fest.
Now I must ask, for i feel you may be judging the game without playing it enough, what level did you get too?
Now I must ask, for i feel you may be judging the game without playing it enough, what level did you get too?
Not far I bet. Because you need to be a horrible nerd to get far in this game. Hell, I am a nerd that spends most of his time on a computer, but even then I am not ready to spend so much time on a game with no reward. Not to mention grinding is not fun, unless you're korean.

I don't understand people who say the grind is crazy without even getting past level 20 because the first 15-20 levels in Silkroad seem to be just about as easy as the first 15-20 levels in World of Warcraft. Yes past level 30 the grind gets hard but until then I don't think anybody is giving the game a fair chance. You say little reward but I find that hard to believe that you know what your talking about seeing as it doesn't look like you've made it very far at all. If you don't want to play thats fine, but the game has changed I propose you give the game another shot. If you don't want to I perfectly understand. However the game is much more fun with a friend. Oh I'm not Korean but it gave me a good laugh :P
Let's not forget that premium (you have to pay) gives better stats for pvp, there's also a thing called "Devil spirit" that gives stats to pvp and "avatar" that... guess what, gives stats for pvp So besides the huge grindfest, it's also unbalanced The game is great, many like the game, but after like 40-50 most people either quit or start using a bot.
I'll sell my account to anyone that wants it, decent level, and I bought a White Wolf pet for $20. PM Me. But, I thought the game was fun for the time I played it.
Played it like 3 years ago, or 4, or 5 - I have the 1million currency wolf and a lvl 24 spearguy, was cool until I realized I'm not communicating with anyone while playing.

Are the servers still extremely populated? I remember I could never get into my server for hours because it was always full :gonk:
