Oddworld
Oddworld is a vast planet roughly 7 times the size of Earth. It is the home of various dangerous animals, and a whole lot of friendly ones. The Oddworld series of games originally started out as a pentalogy, and was going to be called Oddworld Quintology. Out of the four games currently out, only two of them are considered part of the Quintology, while the other two are bonus titles. While they stopped making games for the Oddworld series, they are now working on a new game. In addition to that, the four games currently out is to be released on December the 20th on Steam. This marks the debut on the PC for the two latest releases, which till now have only been playable on Xbox.
The Games
[release]
Abe's Oddysee:
The first game in the series, where you play as the Mudokon Abe. He is (un)happily working as a janitor at the meat factory called Rupture Farms, where the comically evil Glukkons run the show. When he finds out that the next meat on the menu is Mudokon meat, he decides to haul ass out of there. While he initially only seeks escape, events quickly spiral out of control pitting Abe as the saviour of the Mudokon race.
The game consists of side-scrolling platforming action, often killing you before you really know what happens. Luckily you have infinite lives, making the game rely heavily on trial and error. You also speak to your fellow Mudokon in order to save them, with the GameSpeak system. Everyone who have played this game will remember the simple phrases "Hello. Follow me. Wait." And of course, the farts. You can also chant to possess the enemies, which is your only real offensive ability. You die, often and fast.

Abe's Exoddus:
The first bonus game in the series, which starts off just where Oddysee ends. This came out only a year after, which means not much has changed in the mechanics. You do have more GameSpeak abilities, and you can fart possessable explosive clouds now. Yes, explosive farts.

Munch's Oddysee:
This is the second proper game in the series and it was released exclusively on Xbox. It takes place after the events of Abe's Exoddus, but this time you can also control a Gabbit named Munch. This was the first game in 3D, which changed gameplay a bit.
(I have sadly not been able to play this yet, so I'll let the gameplay video speak for itself)

Stranger's Wrath:
The fourth game out, but not the third game in the series. It is the second bonus game, and this time you play as a bounty hunter named Stranger. You go about capturing bounties, dead or alive, by either go in guns blazing or sneaking up to capture them. It was different from the first games, but was very well received. It is widely regarded as one of the best games on the original Xbox.
(Another game I have not played yet. Come on Oddboxx!)

"Stay here!" "Come here!" "Do it!"
A shame these games are fucking awful on the PC and essentially require a controller
Fantastic series. I had both Abe games on the PS1 and bought them on steam a few years ago, I have Munch and Stranger in the xbox and am hoping to get the steam versions soon.
Should probably mention Just Add Water, who are currently doing the Stranger's Wrath port, or just finished it and are supposed to start development on a new 2D Abe game sometime soon. They also have a nice website with dev diaries.
I should also mention the Oddworld Library, which is the best source of Oddworld info and the Oddblog which has constant updates about JAW, Lorne Lanning and eveything Oddworld. They also have a twitter profile you can followwhich updates quite regularly.
In case you haven't noticed, I quite like Oddworld.

The first two are alright. Munch's Oddysee suffers a bit from wanky camera control but it's still good
Last I heard about Stranger's Wrath was it was pretty much unplayable on the PC. As you can see, I dont really keep up with the news, so is that all fixed now?

Completed first two games on my PC during pre-XP era (without a controller obviously) without any problems.
I loved the first two games, although the only one in the entire series I've ever completed was Exodus (on the PC non-Steam, no less). I never liked Munch's Odyssey, though, and while I liked Stranger's Wrath, I barely got to play it. I want another 2D Oddworld realllly fucking bad, with the same CGI graphics style (although higher quality obviously).
They're remaking Oddysee in 3D as a sidescroller with a new physics engine
Loved the first game, never played any of the others though. I have it on PS1 and PC, as well as the soundtrack to it and still listen to the music sometimes.
Original two are great, but Stranger's Wrath is brilliant.

Wait WHAT there was an official soundtrack? The only one i was aware of was the ripped version.
The music from Scrabania is nice.
If Any of you are intrested, I've got the OddBoxx up for trade :downs:
Had the entire series on their respective consoles, didn't complete Much's and Abe's Oddysee though. I now have the Oddbox and I've fully completed Exodus, working on the others. It's a shame they don't make games like these anymore, they are fantastic. Exodus is definitley my favourite.
Adding onto Janus Vesta's post: It's also worth mentioning the Oddworld Forums - Oddworld Inhabitants basically treats that as their official forum even though it was made by fans in 1998? And has been maintained and running since!
There are currently threads made by JAW developers asking the fans what they want to see changed in the new HD remakes - so get on over there and voice your opinion if you want. Don't worry; the comment "remove the jumpy boing sounds" has been made atleast a billion times, those are DEFINITELY getting removed.

The jumpy boing sounds? Those were only in Munch's oddysee.

I know, but they were annoying as fuck

This one. Probably the one you're talking about.
Yeah it was.
I've only played Abe's exoddus, but I absolutely loved it. Even though when I first played it I was very young and very bad at it (ended up using the invincibility cheat way too often)
Wow that price. No reason to not get it.
My dad used to play this and I watched. He'd get so far when I was never able to escape the first enemy for waiting to long.
Ououououououi
Oh hell yes, I love Oddworld. I've played all of them except for Stranger's Wrath. Always sucked at them, still do even, but man were they fun.
Just got Stranger's Wrath in the Steam sale madness! (traded a crap game for it)
So pumped.
For us Oddworld fans, you might love this;

I found Abe's Oddysee and Exoddus at a flea market when I was 8 or 9, begged and begged my mom to get them (they were only a dollar each after all), and god damn, best games I'd ever gotten. Such an amazing alien world, and a pretty unique story.
Great games, all of them.

They're £0.49p each on Steam.
Fucking Scrabania and Paramonia temples were so hard. I always raged so much.
Nevertheless these games are absolutely the best platformer games available. The world is such so great.

I bought the pack a year or two ago.
