Introduction Overgrowth's a 3D fighthing game being developed by the same guys that made Lugaru and Black Shades, an american company called Wolfire. Overgrowth is being built on the new Phoenix engine that Wolfire is developing. The game is going to be released on Windows, Mac and Linux, so all of you gaming on alternate platforms are in for a treat. :) The game is currently undergoing alpha testing, and all pre-orderers will get access to the alphas/betas as they are released. Pre-ordering is $30, I've already done it. :) Technialities The Phoenix engine's coolest feature is 'physics-based animation', which basically means that the animations are shaped to fit the physics. As an example; if you character steps on the edge of a stone, the foot won't clip through the stone or magically remain straight while half of the foot is flying, but the animation will shape itself so that the foot will bend according to the shape of the stone. Other than that, we've got dynamic skies, per-pixel lighting, advanced 3D acoustics, grass and fur shaders, water effects, dynamic levels of detail, depth of field, specular refraction, normal mapping, iterative parallax mapping, dynamic cubemapping, tea break, motion blur, real skeletal animation, and controlled intersections. Gameplay The gameplay will probably be a lot like Lugaru's, but with flaws fixed and more features. The context-based control system will remain, and only a few buttons will be used to control your attacks. Another system highly likely to be included in Overgrowth is the reversal system. Every attack can be reversed by tapping a specific button at the right time. There are no invincible attacks. Reversals themselves can be counter-reversed to re-establish the status quo. The devs have also hinted towards that the environment can be used actively in combat. Plot and Setting Overgrowth is taking place in the same world as Lugaru, with animals like rabbits and wolves being the main inhabitants (though more types of foes and friends will appear in Overgrowth). The world is still in peril because of the events in Lugaru (which I won't say anything about here now - go play Lugaru or read one of the other threads to learn about it), and the protagonist Turner from Lugaru will be the protagonist in Overgrowth too. Not much else is known about the plot than this. Media isn't working.
Physic based animations sound like Euphoria :v: Edit: Would be awesome if it is like that.
Yeah, I thought Lugaru was a pretty awesome game. Only flaw was that there were only about 3 attacks. Vanilla, that is; haven't played any mods yet. I hope the Overgrowth would not be very hardware intensive. I don't have a great rig right now.
I can´t wait for this game. I loved Lugaru! Also it will be sold on steam :)
Only flaw was that there were only about 3 attacks.
I can think of 7 right now not including weapons or reversals. Also Overgrowth will feature online play.
Overgrowth is going to be sold on steam, and if you pre-order it for $30 you can activate your code on steam when it launches. Edit:
Media isn't working.
Yeah, I know. Vimeo's not working with the media tags - suppose you'll have to do with links.
Updated top post with more pictures!
Fucking furries
Fucking furries
Haha.
Fucking furries
And?
I like cool stuff like this, but animals, why the hell animals? They SO don't fit.
I think it's a pretty cool setting, not many have made stuff like it before.
And?
Oh wow lulz you're not afraid to say you like furries. You are awesome. :tinfoil: Edit: Can't wait for the game though. Lugaru is awesome :v:
Fucking furries
Furries would have human qualities, these are straight-up giant rabbits. Even if they were furries, it doesn't mean shit when a game is awesome. Try the old game, it was tons of fun.
Oh wow lulz you're not afraid to say you like furries. You are awesome. :tinfoil: Edit: Cant wait for the game though. Lugaru is awesome :v:
'tis not that I'm a furry or like them, but I think the whole animal theme is cool. Was great in Lugaru, will be great in Overgrowth.
'tis not that I'm a furry or like them, but I think the whole animal theme is cool. Was great in Lugaru, will be great in Overgrowth.
Just done give em huge tits or a giant pink cock.
Just done give em huge tits or a giant pink cock.
Heh.
Fucking furries
I really hope this is trolling. Anyway, any word on the system requirements? If PC gets enough good games this year, I might be updating my machine.
This looks nice. :ninja: (Ignore the ninja emot, I need to copy paste it into paint.)
For some reason the first picture reminds me of metropolice.
I got Lugaru for free and i've been playing it alot. Pretty sure i'm going to buy this.
Probably the best indie developer I've ever seen.
I'm looking forward to this because Turner's huggy-wuggy adowable, and if you tried to hug and/or snuggle him he'd probably slit your throat and piss on your corpse.
Probably the best indie developer I've ever seen.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that, but he is pretty good.
Wolfire's a really cool bunch of guys, I've been talking to Jeff quite a bit and he's really nice.
bumpin' thread up - new screenshots and media will be added in a min or two!
I can't wait. This game looks pretty promising.
Looks like far cry , with it's absence of brush.
