[release]
PC Version Alert
As many of our PC fans are probably aware, the Saints Row 2 port on PC could've been a lot better. With Saints Row: The Third though, we've taken all of the development of the PC version in-house, so that the PC version at the same level of playability as the console versions. Today though, since we're continuing "All Saints Day", we felt it was time to share some reasons why the PC version of Saints Row: The Third is worth your purchase.
First up, the Steam version of Saints Row: The Third will feature the Saints Video Record Mode, allowing you to record and export your most over-the-top gameplay clips, which you are free to share on social media sites and of course right here on SaintsRow.com. And if you’re a true cinephile, you can switch off the HUD and showcase your cheerleader assassin character in all her unblemished glory.
Post launch, the PC version will receive exclusive customization options, including oversized bobblehead masks of characters from your favorite non-THQ online shooter, Valve’s Team Fortress 2. They’re free, so Strap Them On! Stay tuned for more details in the future.
Other highlights include AMD Eyefinity support, DX9, DX10, and DX11 support, Crossfire enabled, SLI enabled, advanced depth of field, reflections, and ambient occlusion quality, and, of course, God Rays.
Saints Row: The Third on PC is not a port, and it's our goal here at Volition to prove that to our PC fans. We hope you enjoy the game when it releases to the public on November 15th![/release]
[release]
F.A.Q (Updated September 6th)
Since we've only officially been announced for less than a month, there's been a LOT of questions floating around with regard to certain aspects of Saints Row: The Third. Many of those questions have ended up in my PM box, so I thought it was time to try to answer as many of these frequently asked questions as possible. I'll be adding to this as more questions arise, and update some answers (such as release date) as they become available.
If you feel I missed something important, feel free to PM me with an addition to this thread.

Your best bet is to look through the SR3 General Discussion section and look for threads already created by other members surrounding those specific characters.
15. What are the names of the gangs in Saints Row: The Third?
15a. All of the gangs fall under the umbrella of the Syndicate, lead by the Morning Star gang. The other main gangs throughout Steelport are The Deckers, and the Luchadores. You may also some into conflict with S.T.A.G. along your way.
16. When is the Initiation Station being released? How can I get it?
16a. At this time, there is no official release date for the Initiation Station, but it will be released before Saints Row: The Third hits store shelves. In terms of gaining access, it will be offered for free to everyone (360, PS3, PC), but there will be ways for early access, including purchasing limited edition copies of Red Faction: Armageddon.
17. Can I import my character from SR2 into SR:TT?
17a. You will not be able to import your SR2 character in to Saints Row: The Third. This is due to a number of factors including the new game engine, and us modifying slider values from SR2 to the new game. This is also one of the reasons we're releasing the Initiation Station before Saints Row: The Third is released, so that everyone can create their characters ahead of time and work with the new customization engine.

18a. At this time, the only portion we have announced for release before the game is the Initiation Station.
19. What are the minimum / recommended specs for SR:TT PC?

20. Will there be DLC for Saints Row: The Third?
20a. Yes, but information about the specific packs is not yet available. Keep checking the "News" section for any future details.
21. If I have different DLC than my co-op partner, can we still play together?
21a. Through some behind the scenes magic, we’ve been able to remove those restrictions based on mismatched DLC to ensure that you can play with anyone, regardless of whether they have access to Genki, or other DLC packs. So get in there, and enjoy your time in Steelport with your buddy.
About Saints Row: The Third (Spoilers May be Present)
Having defeated the rival gangs of Stilwater at the end of Saints Row 2 and overthrown the influence of the Ultor corporation on the city services, the Saints have found themselves with free control of the city. They target a bank, attempting to airlift the vault out of it, but the plan goes awry, and the Saints are incarcerated. In prison, they learn about how an international crime agency called the Syndicate, led by Phillipe Loren, has taken over many of the banks (including the one the Saints struck) and bribed the Stilwater police force. Loren smuggles the Saints' leader (the player-character), Johnny Gat, and Shaundi out of jail and onto his private jet. While in-flight, he tells them they will be allowed to live if they turn over two-thirds of their gangs. The leader of the Saints rejects this offer, and a gunfight breaks out; ultimately, the player-character, Gat, and Shaundi all fall out the cargo hold of the plane, recover parachutes, and land safely.
With the Syndicate in full control of Stilwater, the Saints relocate themselves to the city of Steelport. Steelport is a city that was created as factories flourished with little city planning, and since has suffered from economic failure, contrasting the glamour of Stilwater. The Syndicate has already begun to take control of some parts of Steelport, focusing on vices like gambling and prostitution. To extend their reach, the Syndicate had divided their control of the city through three gangs. The Morning Star, lead by Loren directly, are typically European men with impeccable taste, selling guns and handling the prostitution rings. The Mexican wrestler Killbane controls the Luchadores who deal with selling drugs and gambling. The Deckers, led by hacktivist Matt Miller, are computer geniuses, and handle the money laundering. The Saints see the opportunity to wrest control of Steelport from these groups, and engage them to start to take control of the downtrodden city. As the gang war intensifies, a fourth group, the Special Tactical Anti-Gang (STAG) units from the government will attempt to halt any gang activity whether it be the Saints or the Syndicate.
In previous Saints Row games, the player would be able to approach each of the three rival gangs along separate storylines that ultimately culminated into a final conclusion. In The Third, the storylines between the three gangs are interconnected, and decisions that the player makes in dealing with one faction may alter the behavior of the other factors towards the player or missions that may be available later.
The Third retains the blend of third-person action and driving sequences in open world, urban warfare format that is traditional in the Saints Row series. The player, as the leader of the Third Street Saints, can explore the city of Steelport, performing main missions that progress the game's story, and side missions. These side missions include Activities, mini-games played on the streets of Steelport, Strongholds, rival gang bases that can be taken over to control a section of Steelport, and Flashpoints, on-the-spot gang warfare. Successful completion of missions can earn the player in-game money, weapons, cars, and gang respect. Unlike the previous games where respect was used to unlock new missions, The Third uses respect similar to experience points which the player can then spend to improve specific attributes of their character, such as melee combat or firearms skills. Money can be used to purchase clothing items, weapons and cars, or may be used to upgrade weapons and cars with unique features, such as adding scopes or extra barrels to a weapon, which then can be stored in the Saints' arsenal. Money can also be used to upgrade the Saints gang, customizing their appearance, outfits, and headquarters. Within The Third, the player can set up to four different appearance styles for their gang. Finally, money is also used to purchase shops and other properties within Steelport, which in turn will become a steady stream of income for the gang over time.
While completing some missions, the player may be given a choice of options to finalize the mission. For example, they may opt to destroy a rival gang's boat, including the prostitutes aboard, or instead capture it, and sending the prostitutes to the Saints' headquarters to boost the gang's morale. In another case, the player has the option of using a gigantic bomb to demolish one of the skyscrapers in the city; though they will gain a great deal of respect for the action, it will alter the city's skyline for the rest of the game and cause non-player characters to react differently to the Saints, while leaving the building standing allows it to be used as a headquarters for the Saints. New Activities, optional missions that can gain the player money and respect, include "Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax", a game show that combines the ideas of The Running Man and Japanese game shows, Tank Mayhem where players are tasked with taking out high value targets using a tank, and Guardian Angel, where the player must drive around the city while a tiger is in the backseat of the car.
In addition to the regular arsenal of tradition and novelty weapons, players will gain the ability to call down airstrikes on encamped enemies, or to use an remote control electric bug to control other vehicles such as for remotely delivering a car full of explosives to an enemies hideout. Unlike the first two games, there are no health recovery items in favor of improving the grenade throwing system; in exchange, the player's health will regenerate at a faster rate as long as they stay out of the line of fire. Nearly all actions in the game can be sped up by holding down a second controller button, dubbed by Volition as the "awesome button"; for example, when carjacking, holding down this button will cause the player-character to missile-kick the driver out of the seat in short order.
In addition to the single-player mode, the game can be played co-operatively with at least one other player. As in Saints Row 2, the second player can participate in all missions and activities, earning credit for their completion. Certain activities provide different rules when a second player is present; for example, in the Guardian Angel activity, the second player will have to control the tiger in the backseat while the first player drives. Because of their focus on the single player and co-operative experience, Volition has removed competitive multiplayer from the title.[/release]
The Saints Row series is known for a lot of things, but memorable characters aren’t high on that list. Aside from Johnny Gat or Shaundi, Stilwater was largely populated by ciphers and forgettable wannabes. Of course, while you’re spraying raw sewage on passers by in a septic truck or setting them alight in a go kart, you’re probably not too concerned about making new friends.
With Saints Row: The Third, Volition is going out of its way to deliver loads of action as well as a lineup of interesting friends, rivals, and other people. This week, Game Informer is highlighting just some of the folks you’ll be interacting with in Steelport.
“Phillipe Loren is the leader of the Syndicate, in particular the gang called the Morning Star,” says Steve Jaros, lead writer of Saints Row: The Third. “He’s kind of like a Bond villain. He’s statuesque and poised and elegant, and he’s a total gentleman. He’s not a fop—he’s not effeminate—and he’s not going to play to that European stereotype. He’s coldly logical and dangerous and very savvy.”
Phillipe is the main antagonist in the game, essentially kicking off the game’s story by kidnapping the player character, Johnny Gat, and Shaundi after a botched bank robbery. The game’s first mission takes place in Phillipe’s jet, as the player blasts his way out of the aircraft and down into Steelport.
It turns out that the player has made a powerful enemy in Phillipe, who’s far more powerful than the street level thugs that littered Stilwater. “He’s made a killing being an international arms dealer. He’s pretty much the leader of the criminal fraternity in Steelport. He calls all the shots, he directs everybody, he’s the guy that you just don’t want to f--- with.”
The wrestling-masked Luchadores are one of the more flamboyant criminal organizations in Steelport, so it’s only appropriate that the gang is led by someone equally peculiar. Killbane is a former professional wrestler who also founded the Luchadors with his tag-team partner, Angel. Killbane became jealous of his partner’s success, which led him to publicly unmask and shame his former friend. Eventually, Killbane was banished to Mexico after he killed an opponent in the ring. That exile didn’t last, and the grappler is back and running his group.
“He’s obsessed with his legacy and is a total fame ***,” says Steve Jaros, lead writer on Saints Row: The Third. “In some ways, he’s like a dark mirror to the player.”
Killbane’s given name is Eddie Pryor, but he doesn’t respond to that moniker. His mask is a constant presence, whether he’s on the streets, being interviewed on television, or attending a Syndicate board meeting. “He’s always embracing that luchadore spirit and never wants to let it go,” says Jaros, adding that while Killbane might look a little clownish he’s not someone to be taken lightly. “He’s very volatile. He can be charming and debonair one moment and then just snap off and break your neck.”
And what of Angel? He’s still dealing with the disgrace of being unmasked, but he’ll prove to be a helpful ally to the player as he navigates the unfamiliar streets of Steelport.
Even though Steelport is a city where groups of wrestling-masked gangsters stalk corners without anyone giving it a second thought, don’t assume all of the city’s crime involves ostentatious displays of costuming, rocket launchers, or remote-controlled drones. Sometimes, even the world of Saints Row calls for subtlety.
Matt Miller is the Syndicate’s go-to guy for those instances. As leader of the Deckers, Miller (no relation) is in charge of the city’s cybercrime. As with a lot of folks bolstered by the anonymity of the Internet, Miller is all swagger when he’s at his keyboard. Take him out of his element, and it’s another story. “The thing that’s interesting about him is that when he’s by himself he thinks that he’s god,” says Steve Jaros, the game’s lead writer. “He’s super cocky and kind of obnoxious and is very self-assured in what he does. However, when he’s around Killbane or Phillipe, he’s like a 15-year-old kid sitting at the big kid table.”
Even if he does clam up during those meetings, Phillipe and the rest of the Syndicate appreciate his contributions. It’s always good to have someone smart in your corner, particularly when it’s so potentially lucrative.
As Steelport’s oldest pimp, Zimos is a fixture in the criminal ecosystem. At first, the Syndicate tolerates the eccentric character, and he even forges a friendship with Phillipe Loren’s protégés, Viola and Kiki DeWynter. The relationship goes south for as-yet-unknown reasons, and Zimos finds himself locked away in the basement of one of the Syndicate’s human trafficking hubs.
After being rescued by the player, the temporarily gimp-suited Zimos becomes an important ally. His ties to the criminal underworld are critical in the player’s early days in Steelport, and he’s a great guide to the city. “In general, he’s kind of like the lovable granddad of the Saints,” says lead writer Steve Jaros. “He’s too old to care, he has a lot of swagger. Pretty much he’s seen it all, he’s done it all, and he’s too cool to be scared or offended.”
In addition to the role of de facto tour guide, Zimos provides plenty of comic relief. He has had a tracheotomy, though that hasn’t stopped him from smoking through the subsequent hole in his throat. He speaks using an electronic voice box, which has been autotuned. In other words, everything he says sounds like it was plucked from a T-Pain song. Stay classy, Saints Row.
All week long, we’ve been taking a look at some of the individuals who have shaped the criminal world of Saints Row: The Third. Today, we’re examining an organization that directly affects each and every one of those characters: the Morning Star gang.
Gangs have been a focus of the Saints Row franchise since the series was conceived. As the 3rd Street Saints rose to power in Stilwater, they’ve had to work around and eventually supplant organizations like Los Carnales, the Vice Kings, and the Sons of Samedi. We’ve spent time delving into the individuals that players will be interacting with in Saints Row: The Third, but don’t think that the game is turning into a character study. While Volition is putting more of an emphasis on populating the town of Steelport with more memorable people, its gangs are just as powerful as any that the Saints have encountered on their rise to power.
Morning Star is the oldest surviving gang in Steelport, and as such it commands considerable respect among criminals. It’s led by Belgian arms smuggler Phillipe Loren, and the organization maintains legal and illegal operations worldwide. For instance, Morning Star operates a high-end gun boutique in town, which sells weapons to people who have the cash. Simultaneously, the gang outfits illegal organizations, governments, and militaries with weapons as well.
“Where the others are more local and isolated, Morning Star is the more international organization and it has far-reaching tentacles,” says lead writer Steve Jaros. Those international ties are how Morning Star hooked up with Steelport’s Luchador gang. After selling weapons to that gang’s Mexico operations, Loren realized that a partnership could be lucrative for both parties. Eventually, the tech-focused Decker gang was brought into the fold, creating the Syndicate.
Loren runs Morning Star—and the Syndicate—with the help of the DeWynter sisters. Viola and Kiki are art dealers with refined tastes and a penchant for human trafficking. They’re so close that they’re often referred to as a single entity. “They’re the number two in the Syndicate, so when Phillipe is busy they’re the ones who assume control and make sure that things run on time,” says Jaros. “If they weren’t around, everything would descend into chaos.”
The game starts with the player upsetting Steelport’s balance of power, which will undoubtedly have far-reaching effects. Even though Morning Star might be a powerful entity, the Saints have proven themselves worthy of a good challenge. And after dominating Stilwater, that may be exactly what they need.

Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name, with Saints sneakers, Saints energy drinks and Johnny Gat bobble head dolls all available at a store near you.
The Saints are kings of Stilwater, but their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute. Refusing to kneel to the Syndicate, you take the fight to Steelport, a once-proud metropolis reduced to a struggling city of sin under Syndicate control.
Take a tank skydiving, call in a satellite-targeted airstrike on a Mexican wrestling gang, and defend yourself against a highly-trained military force using only a sex toy in the most out-landish gameplay scenarios ever seen, igniting a city-wide war that will set Steelport on fire. Strap it on.

I will keep all new Saints Row 3 news at the top.
There are too many freaking games coming out this year that I want.
I always enjoyed the Saints Row series - it never took itself seriously, and it works for it.
Maybe the PC port will work this time
AWWW YA, I've been waiting for the third for a long time! Saints row 2 was tons of fun Can't wait :)
Also yea I hope the pc port is better since I no longer have a console
Edit:
Looks like a magazine cover so I don't know if this the picture of the city is real. But, looks like we are still going to be in stillwater?
Edit:
Or maybe we can travel to a new city ??? OMG DSHFVHGHSGH
Judging from the poster, it seems that the PC version may be released alongside the console counterparts.
Glorious
Finally! I can't wait for the third installment!
As long as they make the driving a little less crap, I'm game for a third one.

Dat car, I want. :smug:
I don't like purple, it doesn't fit with most clothing for my gang :saddowns:
Also hopefully pc will get better attention.
I hope the game doesn't take itself too seriously, it seems they are trying to go for a more serious look based on the logo and the pictures.

actually nevermind, the fact that the guy has booze in his hands and the lady is wearing tight latex pants with silly shoes makes me think this is going to be fine

The tagline is "Strap it on. Holiday 2011". I really doubt it's going to take itself seriously.
I'll be a bit cynical about it, since lots of second-sequels end up being the worst of the series they're in. I'll still buy it though, because Saints Row 2 is probably the best Sandbox game I've played, and I think Volition is competent enough to at least equal it in quality.

Actually I think the suit, limousine cars etc. means they're abandoning the gangsta style stuff so the player is even more free in doing weird stuff their own way.

Don't worry.
A great deal of them will be pushed back to Q1 2012.

Come on, don't ruin it.
I hope they push the crazy customization aspect even further, that's what I loved most about SR2
Yea like in depth Gang member customization, what shirts you want them to wear, their hair style, their faces, everything about them! I would also like the ability to customize cribs more, like if i don't want a bunch of asshole gang members in my crib drinking all my booze and eating all my food then that should be an option!
Oh hell yes.
I remember I first got Grand Theft Auto IV when I got my Xbox 360 but then I realized they had taken the fun, silly, sandboxy style out so it quickly bored me but Saints Row 2 saved me from that boredom
I still play SR2 all the time, this is awesome to hear! Hope we get a change of environment, be it a drastic change or just a Saint's version of Stilwater.
i hope u can play as a girl again cause my characther is a old woman lol
SR2 is loads of fun with a friend.
I can't tell you how many times we've flown a plane into the ultor tower and tried to land our flaming bodies inside the building
[editline]19th February 2011[/editline]
That paired with plane surfing = the best afternoon ever
Saints Row 2 was so much fun, didn't really matter to me how shitty it ran. It would be really awesome if they implement different styles of gangs in SR3, something other than gangsters
They sort of did that with Pimps, but they weren't an official gang.
If you kill one, twenty of them will come out of nowhere and try to beat the shit out of you.
I like how it says "may contain material that is inappropriate for children"
Should say "Will contain material that is inappropriate for children"
When is the new game informer out?
Looks like the Saints are running a private school this time, by the look of the logo. Expect a Bully-esque pimping adventure through the streets, alleyways and dormitories of Saints Row Preparatory school campus.
Ability to make your gang more mafia-like would be sweet.
I played the first one and it was pretty enjoyable. How was the second? I've watched the trailers and stuff since it was released and it just doesn't look that special.
Lets hope the PC port isn't an unforgivably buggy piece of shit this time...
