Half Life 2: Episode 3 This thread is meant for discussing Valves Sequel to Half Life 2 Episode 2
Half-Life 2: Episode Three is the third and final instalment in a series of episodes following Half-Life 2. It is currently in development and Valve have said we may see something from it at the end of this year. The project has been labelled 'highly ambitious' by Doug Lombardi, and release is still a while off. We are most likely to see something from Valve at next years E3 conference. What we know, and what to expect? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We know the episode is going to be set in the northern reaches of the world of Half-Life, these will be cold places filled with ice and snow, oh and a Borealis. The Borealis is that great ship that disappeared during some experimentation by the same sort of scientists that caused the Resonance Cascade from the original Half-Life. From what we have seen from Portal and the previous Episodes the Borealis is a scientific ship that was involved in teleportation tests at the Aperture Science labs. Something went wrong which led to the ship disappearing completely from its original location. It is only during the events of Episode 2 that we find out that it has returned, this time in the coldest reaches of the world. Speculation -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The question that will be answered (we hope) in Episode 3 is what happened to the ship, did it appear instantly after the experiment in the north? If that is so then why haven’t we heard about it until now? Is it simply down to the fact that the resistance couldn’t detect it? We also know the scientists on the Borealis performed their experiments and the ship got sent somewhere, maybe Xen? Or maybe it just disappeared out of the time loop? We know that during the course of Half-Life 2 Gordon takes seven days to travel from Nova Prospekt back to City 17, a 'slow teleport' according to Dr Kleiner. The Borealis contains something that Eli wishes Gordon to destroy for fear of a repeat of the events at Black Mesa, Dr Kleiner feels it is destined to be a useful asset in the future. The differing views between these two eminent scientists is intriguing. Is caution the best bet, or should Gordon use whatever he can find on the ship to aid in the destruction of the Combine once and for all? Flora, Fauna and Everything Else -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enough of this speculation, Episode 3 will be set in an area of snow and ice, this is going to pose some new gameplay challenges and maybe even some new aliens. Who knows whether Ant-lions can survive in the cold? Headcrabs and Zombies are a given, but many other creatures may be different. How will the death of such a key character as Eli impact on the story, and more importantly for some, on the relationship between Gordon and Alyx. What role is the G-Man going to play, he seems to be getting a bit impatient with things not progressing as he wants them to. His message he gives to Alyx, the same message he gave to Eli back in Black Mesa may be a sign that he foresees grave peril in the future, or maybe he is just toying with Alyx. How things are likely to develop... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When we find out about the Borealis in Episode 2 this is from the transmission Alyx intercepted from the Combine. Therefore we know the Combine have located the vessel. They were extremely aggressive and put a lot of resources into attempting to prevent this transmission getting back to the resistance and have hunted Alyx desperately since the interception. We can assume the combine want to use the Borealis and Aperture Science's possible developments in teleportation / portal technology to bring extra troops to Earth to recapture it or evacuate. The latter...seems unlikely! We have already seen some early concept art for the game. The image from the ‘Into The Pixel’ exhibition shows Gordon challenging a Combine Advisor in a heavily industrialised environment and earlier concept art from PC Gamer US shows further Advisors around the Borealis. So expect a hugely exciting episode 3 with the same fantastic Half-life formula with a mighty cold twist.
NEWS 12/20/11: Half Life 3 Logo Appears On Mysterious Website (FAKE) Pay attention to the bolded words below.
The Half-Life 3 logo has turned up on a mysterious new website! What could it mean? Point yourself at black-aperture.com and you'll see something mighty interesting: a very professional-looking Half-Life 3 logo, complete with Steam, Valve and Source tags and even all the proper copyright notifications in fine print. Mouse over the logo and you'll notice it links to half-life3.com; click it and you're transported to the Orange Box website. Interesting, and all very legitimate-looking, too. But is it real? The obvious answer is "probably not," but hey, we've got time to kill. A whois of black-aperture.com reveals that the registration is David Hassen, who has no apparently connection to Valve and is thus presumed to be just some guy who doesn't mind spending a few bucks to troll a significant portion of the internet. The logo is also slightly different than the one spotted on a Valve employee's t-shirt in early December, with the lambda and the "3" having swapped spots. At the same time, there seems to be an awful lot of Half-Life 3 "stuff" popping up in recent weeks. There's the t-shirt, and then came reports of the Half-Life 3 clues stashed in Valve's Portal 2 video for the VGAs. Marc Laidlaw insisted there was no "alternate reality game" or anything else untoward going on, but now we have this. Can it all really be a coincidence? Of course it can, and it almost certainly is. Or is it? What's this "Status: Mark 7" business, anyway? And what about "FW26HL3719?" I'm all a-tingle with excitement! My theories for this thread is that every post including one (with the exception of this) will fail to epic proportions of this universe. VALVe has the theories, WE play the game. WAIT and you'll find out we've heard every dumb theory possible already.
Early on, Alyx will kill a Combine Assassin and take all the armor except the helmet. It'll make her look more awesome.
I wanna see Alyx beat a Combine Soldier to death. Something like this: So You, Alyx, and some Rebel are in a small underground closet type room with a vent leading to the outside on the ceiling near the door. On the side opposite of the door there will be an objective of somesort (such as picking something up or pressing a button). However immediately after you do that a Combine Soldier rappels in and shoots a stack of boxes, causing them to fall on you and leave you helplessly pinned. He then takes Alyx's gun and EMP device and shoves her down. Then he stands near the door and alerts nearby soldiers of the Prisoners. However as he's doing this the Rebel tries to move the Boxes off you, and the Soldier shoots him down, wounding him. But while he's distracted by the Rebel, Alyx charges in and grabs for his gun, after a little tug of war the ammo container breaks off. He tries to use the gun as a bat but Alyx dodges, then hits him in the face with the metal magazine causing him to drop the gun and denting his mask. He punches Alyx in the face and knocks her back a bit. Then he grabs a Pistol and aims, but Alyx grabs it and points it in the air before he can fire. So after firing all 18 rounds into the roof he begins to pull it away from her. She lets go and he stumbles backward into the wall. But then he throws the Pistol at her hitting her in the arm. Then he pushes her away and tries to reassemble his damaged AR2. But as he's doing that the Rebel stands up and attacks him while Alyx goes to borrow your crowbar. The Rebel is punched in the face and falls back, but Alyx hits him in the head with the crowbar. Now while he's stunned Alyx uses the crowbar to pry off his facemask, and after relieving the Combine Soldier's true face, shoves the crowbar into his forehead. He slowly drops to his knees, then to his side. Dead. Then after Alyx helps you up, you go retrieve the crowbar from his face (causing blood to squirt out when you pick it up). The crowbar remains bloodstained for the rest of the game.
I would love to see some new weapons, new animations, new character models, updated textures, Lamar, and Barney. [sp]Really, an entire overhaul in content[/sp] To spice Half-life 3 up they should include a few mini-boss fights and a final boss fight [sp]similar to the original half-life[/sp]
I'm hoping that we'll learn more about Gman, he's so fucking mysterious.
GLaDOS will make a cameo appearance on the Borealis.
I'm hoping we get to fight more than just one Advisor. Actually, I hope they bring some old beta enemies back, like the Cremator and Guard.
Eli is going to come back to life via vontigons.
New guns please (including Combine Sniper).
Like he did at the beggining of Ep 1, hopefully Gman will intervene at the last possible moment to save Eli, hopefully. Perhaps even going back in time a few seconds and warding the advisors away.
I doubt Eli will be saved. He was going to tell Gordon all about Gman anyway so why would Gman save him. Gman was even the one who warned him he would die, "prepare for unforseen consequences".
Ah, i just miss eli ;_; I hope Alyx isnt really emo during Ep.3 because of that...
I bet people will die
We need to find out what happened to Barney! I thought he was supposed to be headed for White Forest but he wasn't there in Ep. 2 and no one even mentioned him.
Eli is going to come back to life via vontigons.
What the fuck is a vontigon? EDIT: (Sarcasm)
Here's what I see in the game: Alyx and Gordon are flying over the snowy tundra, heading on the right track to the Borealis. Suddenly, their helicopter gets shot down by a new combine device, and they go down. When Gordon and Alyx come to, DOG is broken and busted. Alyx sobs for a moment, then decides that she is going to fix it, telling Gordon once again, "I'll stay here and take care of DOG, while you go find out what shot us down." On your way to the Borealis, you encounter a new combine enemy, a snow snake. Kind of like Lost Planet, this thing is made out of white metal, with laser-guided missiles. You defeat it, but it lands on you, knocking you unconsious. When you come to, you find yourself being dragged through a make-shift camp in the snow. they lock you in a jail, soon following Alyx. She said she was mid-way fixing DOG when a combine sentry knocked her out. Suddenly, she pulled out her unlocker thingy, she uses the laser to cut the metal. Once you're free of the cell, she hands you a new weapon, a metal pipe broken off from the toilet. This shall be your new crowbar for the time being. You fight through hordes of combine, surprised at how badly they want you to stay here. You break out, and head south towards the Borealis. Once you arrive at the ship, Alyx marvels at the sight. Once you get inside, there are boxes of whatever (I have no imagination for the Borealis contents, so bear with me). Alyx hands you the makeshift charges that Kleiner gave her before they departed. You plant the charges, and get out of the ship. Soon, you find yourself staring at five dozen combine, with a grin-wearing breen standing in front of you. He tells you that you almost killed him, before combine sentries found him and carried him away, healing most of his fractured/dismembered body. He lifts his sleeve and two pant legs to reveal a robotic appendage now replaces his flesh and bone. Alyx and gordon struggle as they are hed captive once again by the combine, forced to watch as the combine defuse the charges and carry out the crates. Suddenly, a half-rebuilt DOG comes to the rescue and barrels down the combine, showing impressive stuff as he kills everybody. He then lands on top of Breen, and hesitates to kill him as he begs for his life. Suddenly, Breen pulls out a gun and starts firing into DOG's head, cutting off it's circuitry etc. Alyx goes into a slow-motion cutscene, taking Gordon's crowbar and whacking Breen in the head so hard, it almost seemed like it was gonna fly off. Soon alyx cries and starts frantically trying to rebuild DOG, bu it was no use. She gathers up most of dog and put inside a Combine backpack, not before taking a coat as well. So now, you both get to see a sexy Alyx in an eskimo suit, and a naked combine. I'm a bit too tired to finish the rest, I was just writing down what I was thinking. Oh, a while later she shall rebuild DOG in a smaller "puppy" form, starting from scratch once again.
Lol-Nade i like DOG/PUP idea the rest seems like it would make a GREAT mod though your beginning is what sounds the most official
GLaDOS will make a cameo appearance on the Borealis.
Cameo? Fuck that.

Maybe In Episode 3, we'll go to the combine homeworld... Probably not a large part of the game, but maybe thats whats in the borealis. A simmilar Black Mesa Incident, but it leads to The Combine Homeworld. Maybe even the G Mans Homeworld
I'm hoping that we'll learn more about Gman, he's so fucking mysterious.
hee iz gordan. I want a trailer for this soon. So all us VALVe fans can jizz for joy watching it over and over and over again.
I'll be amazed if this comes out before Christmas.
lol, yeah. People always be callin' Gabe fat. :Dawkins102:
I wonder if Adrian Shepard will have an apearrance...
Alyx dies
I want Vontigons in my Gmod.
Epic fight with GMan would be unexpected and cool. Like, you have to kill him but he deflects your bullets n stuff.
