Story For years, humanity lived on the world known as Minera, expanding their civilization to the point where there was no place humanity could reach. Technology was a wonder to the people, bringing out the constant desire to work on newer and better technology to help in their efforts. When the discovery that steam can be used to power their machines and make their concepts become a reality, the cities of Minera flourished. By the time humanity reached its peak, they dominated both the ground, air, and sea. And yet there was only one part of the world that remained untouched, the mysterious depths of the underground, holding many secrets that have yet to be discovered. Perhaps it was this desire to explore the deeps that lead to humanity's survival against the Mechanicus, machines who originally were created to explore the uncharted underground, the first ones to think, and to deem humanity 'inferior'. The Mechanicus turned against their creators, converting factories to create more of their kind all while endangering humanity. They showed no remorse, even capturing humans and 'converting them' into machines such as themselves, turning them into mindless half-machine, half-human monstrosities. In a final line of defense to survive, humanity was forced to retreat to both higher and lower grounds, turning mountaintops into cities, and by retreating to underground. What was once a dream was now humanity's chance at survival, as the unexplored depths of the earth slowly started to be unraveled. Civilizations were built underground, connected to the surface through special means to allow resources and refugees in. And thus, the underground world that humanity dreamed about, now becoming a necessity to survive, was named Deepground.
Journal Logs
March 29th, 2011 Many years we've built up our cities, our pinnacles of human civilization. We've built and honored our technology, clean yet effective, and nothing could be said about our civilizations without talking about our technology. Steam and white smoke punctuated the skies each day, glaring beacon of solid prosperity. We took glory in our work, in our cities, in our technology; that was what we did, that was what we were always meant to do. Airships littered the skies, the hum of the machinery constant, the joys of humanity…how I missed it. Technology lead to our uprising, and it had lead to our downfall. The desire to know what exists beneath us, the depths of our world, this ‘deep ground’ as some of us call it. This desire, lead to us creating machines to do the work for us, robots that ran on steam whose only purpose was to break into the unexplored depths and recover what they found. One little miscalculation, one little mistake, one glitch, and our mindless machines thought for themselves… deeming humanity weak and waging war on us…to annihilate the entire human race. We called them the Mechanicus…and they took the name and used it for themselves. They, those killing machines of bronze and iron, showed no regret, no morals, not even taking mercy on us. Any human, man, woman, or child, was killed or captured…and those that were captured was given a fate worse then death, transformed into…zombies of flesh and iron. Their leaders commanded the skeletons, discarded prototypes reanimated for war; our spider drones were converted to their side…and to top things off, they made a machine whose only job is to blow itself up whenever in proximity of any human, sneaking up on us when we least expected, creeping on us. We feared them the most… Only a few cities remained when we, the Terra Lords, met in the city of Alexandria to discuss what to do. Some, if not most, hoped that the Sky Lords, with their airships, would save the day…but the Sky Lords already abandoned us, creating what is now known as the Skyland. We seemed to lost hope at that moment…until a sentry came in, reporting that he found a vast underground cavern after barley surviving a creeper attack. It was vast enough to hold a city…and from there, our plan was made. We will escape the Mechanicus yet keep on fighting, retreating to the depths, retreating to the Deepground. Three months we defended the sight where the cavern was, workers doing their best to build the first city underground, Deep Helm. When it was done, we made our final defense, giving civilians time to escape…and then we followed and sealed up the entrance. Deepground is our hope, our final bastion against the Mechanicus. I send scouts to the surface to look through the towns and cities that fell to scavenge what we can find , and at the same time, I oversee the construction of the city that will become the second Alexandria; Drakengard. Only time will tell what will happen; the Mechanicus still wants to exterminate us…but we will not yield, we will not fall. -Zeferen N. Bahamut, 5th Terra Lord of Alexandria, 1st Deep Lord of Drakengard

April 3rd, 2011 We are still focusing on building up Deep Helm, giving the people a place to live. While a certain few made their own places, and with the 3rd floor apartments completed; we still don’t have enough housing for everyone else. I still remember those days when we defended the Deep Pillar against the Mechanicus, where we stood our ground to protect the refugees heading into Deep Helm. We were stationed at Fort Victory, surrounding Deep Helm’s pillar. It was used as a holding place for refugees as we prepared Deep Helm for them, but with each day, we knew the Mechanicus were coming. Then one day, it happened. I could hear a soldier cry out that they are coming; I can still feel myself running to the side of the fort to see them. I can still imagine the horror in my soldier’s eyes at seeing the Mechanicus literally burning through the nearby mountains, close by the former airship town…they were here. For five days and five nights, we held our ground. Then, a lone creeper blew a hole in the fort…and we put our very lives in defending the pillar. We called the dead heroes…and started to blame everyone but ourselves. As long as the Mechanicus stands, that day would last forever… -Zeferen N. very good idea i would love to join when the server is up
Oh my god I want to join.
I'll join. Maybe another city floating in the air, skyhaven style?
Glad some people like it. Here is a little teaser for what I already done. Basically its the main central pillar that connects one of the cities of Deepground to the surface of Minera. On the surface itself, the pillar forms into a watchtower where guards would keep an eye out for any Mechanicus who are attempting to breach into the underground. There will be, of course, human characters and people who would play as the Mechanicus, as the Mechanicus would be the mobs within Minecraft but reskinned through Glimmer's Steampunk Texture pack to look robotic. I took some time to design this pillar myself, and its still a bit of a work in progress. I have yet to make the rest of the city as I was hoping to do that with other people...
Sounds awesome. Ever since I bought Minecraft I've been hoping for an underground city project. I always in-vision the Brave New World from War of the Worlds.
Heck, i'll join. This looks like it could be good.
Actually, now that I listen to it again, the ideas sound awfully similar... :buddy:
This actually seems intresting. Hope you can get the server up.
Theres quite a lot of things that I think must be done location wise for the server, besides the underground cities. One is that I plan to create the ruins of a city on the surface that ravaged by the Mechanicus, possibly above one of the underground cities. I can imagine climbing up to the surface and being greeted by destruction and ruin. Most likely this one will be done with other people, as I can't do anything myself. And while I created the story, I have yet to make key ideas for it, such as locations, names for the types of Mechanicus (unless we go by the names Minecraft give the mobs...), etc. Still, its nice to see people being interested.
This actually seems intresting. Hope you can get the server up.
I hope so too. A 24/7 server would be my goal, but most likely it will be a non 24/7 server until I find a job and all that stuff. College is a pain in the ass since I have classes at different times on different days, but I should try to find a job at least.
Well, It really depends on how many slots you want for your server as to how costly it's going to be.
I am guessing by slots you mean player slots. Well, I do want a good amount to keep things going, more then five or six of course. I guess I will worry about that once the designing and ideas are done.

I want to help.
I want to help.
Hey, I could use all the help needed. Though I need to set up a server just for creating the world of Deepground, though there were some tutorials on how to do that on the Minecraft forums.
I want to help aswell.
Yeah, me and redscream are bros, we can plan stuff together and help out.
I want to help aswell.
Alright then! I guess I will need to do something to keep tabs on whose helping, possibly make a group here on facepunch or a steam group or something...and create a whitelisted server when I can of course.
I feel you won't get to many helpers so you can just keep a list on the thread.
I did just that. I plan on making a logo for the server sometime this week, I already got an idea of what it would look like.
If you need uniforms for guards or something, maybe I could help with skins.
If you need uniforms for guards or something, maybe I could help with skins.
That would be nice. Glimmer's Steampunk texture pack, as I mentioned, has some skins in it that players can use, though more would be nice. Something to fit with the steampunk vibe, I guess.
Yeah, I'm thinking that the server should use the mods called Airships and Steamboats, you can find them on Minecraft forums. And here is a link, you can find it in the thread of Glimmar's Steampunk Texture Pack if you scroll down abit. http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=48884

http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=48884
Ya know that was one thing planned. I already have it on my laptop, though my desktop Alienware computer lacks it currently. The server would definitely use that mod for flyable airships, though I still have a feeling we will be making nonflyable larger airships out of blocks. Edit: What? Why a box?!
instead of ugly Glimmars why not use FP's own steampunk pack here? http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1064354-Steampunk-Texture-Pack-Need-Ideas by the time this rp thing is done the texture pack should be done too.
I guess I'll help make the world itself (Towns, Clearings, Etc.)
I'll help if you wish.
I'll join. Maybe another city floating in the air, skyhaven style?
I would think more of a main city area held into the air by 3 or so of those Pillars, with either sections suspended by Balloons with bridges connecting each area, or just tethers instead of balloons. Also, use the texture pack that that Facepuncher is making
Oh, if you didn't get my earlier posts, basically I really dig this idea. So count me in, should you need it.
The Idea Okay, so I may not be the best when it comes to these things, hell I am new to the idea of making a 24/7 rp server! But that doesn't mean that it can be done. Through the usage of Glimmer's Steampunk Texture Pack (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=48884 )and the included Steampunk skins, and my constant scheming and ideas, I decided to actually work on the idea of a Steampunk story-driven rp server that focuses on story, character development, and the good old things of Minecraft: Explore, Mine, Build, Survive. While there will be cities that players can stay in and build up their own home, most of it will revolve around mining and exploration alongside story. Although I don't have a 24/7 server just yet (or any server for that matter...), I will be trying to get it up if I can, even though I don't have a job to support the income for the server... Story For years, humanity lived on the world known as Minera, expanding their civilization to the point where there was no place humanity could reach. I already got one concept for one city, which will be underground, that I made using MCEdit, though I only built a tower that extends underground that will connect the city to the surface. Sooo, any ideas, interest, anything?
That is a good idea. If you need help building anything, I will offer to help build a city or some smaller villages for you.
