You're a crew-member on board a state-of-the-art futuristic space station that's been established in orbit of a potentially habitable planet. Your goal is to survive. How you do this is your own choice, but generally speaking you'll be keeping the station operational, working together as a team, and sprinting through sections of the station attempting to escape whatever danger or horrors might be chasing you. Centration is set in 2152, where after centuries of development and growth, corporate entities have essentially taken control of humanity. They patrol the skies and the streets... and they control who lives or dies. UniTech, the biggest of the corporations, owns or directly controls more than 60% of the world's economy. They have established a government-like entity with a military and fleet of combat-ready spacecraft in order to police the band of squabbling corporations. Humanity is desperate to escape and UniTech is going to provide that escape. The Centration expedition is a corporate-funded endeavour to colonise the moon of a gas giant in the Keplar-16 solar system. It is proven by probes to be capable of sustaining human life, and will provide a perfect starting point for a human colony in a new solar system. The launch of the expedition goes well, they arrive and set up space stations and habitation modules in orbit while UniTech investigate the surface properly. A first-person survival horror sandbox, Centration delivers some of the most dynamic features you've ever seen in a computer game. Airflow that flows around the station, providing you with that vital air... or maybe poison? Electric Systems that power every bit of machinery you operate Scripting that controls the machinery Realistic Physics (Yes, that includes explosive decompressions.) Combat - Brutal, visceral, and most of all... dangerous. Centration isn't about face-paced, in-your-face combat. There's no running and gunning. It's not an FPS. It's a battle for survival. Your weapon? Everything is a weapon, with limitless potential for creativity. Health - You can bleed, suffocate, burn, poison, and break. Computing - Keep an eye on vital statistics and information, send interdepartmental messages, or just browse Facebook. Multiplayer Round-Based - You play online with dozens of others, in rounds that could last from 5 minutes to 5 hours. Fully Interactive Environment - If you can see it, you can interact with it. Don't like that table? Move it. Don't like that console? Re-install it. Don't like that crew-member? Eject him. You get the picture. Persistent Characters - Grow your character over time, increase your competency, earn credits, evolve. [t]http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/6117/sbv1.png[/t] [t]http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/769/k86.png[/t] Vote for the game on Steam Greenlight: Back the game on Kickstarter: Centration Thread V1 Official Website: http://www.centration.co YouTube: www.youtube.com/user/CentrationGame Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Centration Twitter: https://twitter.com/Centration Updated often. Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/centration The team streams twice a month on Saturdays. Teamspeak 3: ts.centration.co The team actually uses it for work. The SS13 that Gotham deserves. And needs.
oh my god yes please
Still saying its not 3d SS13?
I've been following this game for a while now, mainly because I've been playing ss13 since it was just a shitty little byond game no one ever heard of. I'm really disappointed at the state the game is in, judging by their kickstarter video. It looks even for an alpha heavily unpolished and void of features, especially considering how long this game has been around for. I really wish they would have put a little more effort into their pitch video and had a bit more to convince me to fund, after all they are selling me a product. Right now it seems like they're trying to ride ss13's coat tails, hoping the game's current users will blindly fund them.

It's rough as hell, even considering the fact that it's a Pre-alpha.
Vagax couldn't keep updating the old thread due to being very busy, so I'm in charge of it for the moment being.
I don't like these guys, on principle... They've basically taken most of the features that made SS13 great, launched a smear campaign of sorts against it, and then claimed they weren't inspired by it at all, including scrubbing all references to it from their game. The 2D SS13 remake is coming along much more nicely, and unlike this, it promises to stay true to its roots. EDIT: StrawberryClock... SomethingAwful? Newgrounds? I know I've seen you somewhere before.
I see potential in this. In game voice chat is a must though, muh immersion. also would be neat if you could leave voice logs, though this would require some questionable logistics if people are going to start leaving them around everywhere, and some fairly irate janitors.
isnt this made by the same guys as SS13?
It is, actually. Sort of. One of the original devs is working on it, but that "original dev" happens to be an ideas guy who got kicked off the team for reasons unknown. [editline]2nd July 2013[/editline]
Because it's not 3D SS13.
But it has claimed to be, and it draws most of its inspiration (so much as to be directly inspired by it), and that is the problem. Also, one of the devs has stated that he intended it to be 3D ss13, but the statement was retconned sometime after because of supporter backlash.
Because it's not 3D SS13.
How is it not 3d ss13? The only difference I see is a somewhat different "backstory" I have yet to see the justification for that claim
How is it not 3d ss13? The only difference I see is a somewhat different "backstory" I have yet to see the justification for that claim
No clowns therefore it can't be SS13.
I just remembered I still have that "premium" membership for this.

I know I've seen you somewhere before.
I'm not the real StrawberryClock, I saw the name was available so I took it when I changed it from my old username a while back. Also, full disclosure, I was taken aboard the Centration project to be part of the Community Team (it's a big fancy title for moderator of the forum and TS3) back in January. Much like Vagax's current position. Though it's cool that I still get to be part of pitching in ideas and such. Noms, the lead designer for Centration was one of the people that helped develop SS13 in its early stages (if I recall correctly he was a co-dev). Much like Dark Sector was supposed to be what Warframe is today, Noms had the idea for Centration a long time ago but, lacking time and capital, it became the early version of SS13. If I understand correctly, Noms has a beef against SS13 because people think it's the "original idea", and that Centration is "ripping it off". For Noms, though, Centration is what SS13 should have been in the first place. So when you say something like "staying true to its roots", Centration is the "roots". So yeah, Noms was definitely inspired by SS13 as in "you can be inspired by the idea that you actually had in the first place". Calling Noms' dislike for what evolved from his underdeveloped old project a "smear campaign" is a bit of a hyperbole. I mean, I personally like SS13 but I see where Noms is coming from. Plus, we don't want people stop playing SS13, we just want people to play our game too. It's not like SS13 is going to die; it's free. We just want people to throw in some money so that Noms can realize what he originally wanted to make. We don't have a legal department or a PR department, but if we had one the official line would be:
We take inspiration from Space Station 13 and they share many features, however this game is just its spiritual successor, like Total Annihilation was to Planetary Annihilation, or System Shock was to Bioshock.

Because it's not 3D SS13.
i've played rounds upon rounds of ss13 back in 2005-2008~ with the now-creator of Centration(he even changed his name) back when he was just like us players, then he aided SS13 development back then with bobthehobo and zjm, sora, nadrew and other people who have gone missing eternally. i remember all the drama when he tried to start this project envisioning a 3D ss13 (of course, money comes from it too) i suppose i can't blame him for wanting to make a living out of his game, i can understand how people find it disgusting that he wants to make money from an ss13-concept-lookalike though... but as he claims, he probably is trying to make a spiritual successor. i think the bottom line thing to take out of all of this is if you don't like what he's trying to pull, just don't play it. normal ss13 is always liked anyways.

We don't have a legal department or a PR department, but if we had one the official line would be:
I wouldn't say Centration is the idealistic visualization of the entire SS13 team, though, would you? And, therefore, as Centration heavily borrows from the modern SS13, is it fair to still say Centration is the original idea for SS13, and more heavily-handed, fair to call SS13 a ripoff of Centration's ideas (I've seen this around the forums, over on Reddit, and even used by a few of your admins... It's curious to me, and you yourself seem to be implying something of the sort, albeit indirectly.) Furthermore, I feel the need to point out one of the older videos comparing Centration to SS13 (Linked here: http://vimeo.com/48530274), where his statements and manner of delivery indicate a level of hostility, as well as a modicum of dishonesty that is certainly unnecessary. (I reference, of course, the referencing and footage of the older version of SS13, before Baycode, which are not at all representative of the modern game, even though this video was made and released some while after both codebases became not only the norm, but the standard.) I don't feel that Noms is being entirely fair in his presentation, nor in his juxtaposition, when there is still very little to show for Centration, and certainly even less that makes it more compelling than SS13 itself. I will, however, wish your team the best of luck, and hope you can deliver a decent product without being directly or indirectly hostile to your competition.
I'm just going to respond here for the purpose of clearing up some misinformation that has been posted here. While what StrawberryClock has said is mostly true, I should clear up the fact that before 'SS13' existed, it was cellautomata which was intended as a simulation. Exadv1 founded the 'engine' (if it can be called an engine within BYOND) and a group of roleplayers (which included me) wanted to turn it into a game - which eventually turned into the old original space station 13. I wasn't kicked off the team at all. I released the source code to the public (against the wishes of my peers at the time) because I believe it was the best way forward for SS13 to evolve into the game it is today - and it was the single best thing that happened to SS13. Everyone seems to gloss over that fact. Centration shares the same genre as SS13. It's a survival-sandbox game, it shares a similar setting; and obviously it shares some core features - the kind of features that are needed in a game in this genre. It wouldn't be much a game if we didn't include a health system. Or a combat system. Or airflow.. it is in space after all. ;-) I understand that some people are a little upset that it seems like Centration is a project that's trying to 'make money' from a concept you are understandably protective about but allow me to clear this up for you all: Centration shares features similar to the original Space Station 13 as it existed when I was working on it years ago before it was released publicly. Back then it lacked a lot of the features it does now and I have been working on the concept for Centration ever since we released the source code. What you call Space Station 13 now is a lot different to what in my mind, SS13 is. This was why earlier on in the project we claimed that Centration was a spiritual successor to Space Station 13 - before we realised what everyone else saw as Space Station 13 wasn't what our original vision was any more. I hope this clears up a lot for you guys - I don't want a dramafest; I just want to make an amazing game that we can enjoy. And I'd be giving this out for free if I could, but the fact of the matter is a game like this takes a commitment, and unfortunately living, licencing, server hosting, etc. isn't free these days; that's why the kickstarter is there. None of us are taking any profit from this unless the project succeeds and even then, a long time afterwards. Much love. - noms
Say hello to my boss. Well, I'm working for free part-time with a profit-share agreement but it's easier for me to just call him my boss.
I see potential in this. I much prefer voice chat over text chat, which is one of the few (but crucial) things that turns me off from playing an insane amount of SS13.
- noms
Thanks for clearing that up. I meant no disrespect by what I posted before, I was only going off of what I had heard and read. There's not a lot of information on the subject, so your post shed some light on things that I had not previously heard of. Best of luck with the project. It looks interesting enough to follow, perhaps more closely than I have been.

They're creating more assets for those as we speak. We've moved very recently from exclusively working on the engine to actually creating assets for it that could remotely be called "usable".

This looks excellent.
Looks great (yet another game facepunch has shown me) (It would be hilarious if it were someone's goal to hijack every computer to show something dumb)
Looks great (yet another game facepunch has shown me) (It would be hilarious if it were someone's goal to hijack every computer to show something dumb)
Well on the kickstarter we have an update which seems to summarize what will happen according to someone on facebook. This isn't from a staff member though so they put it in ss13 terms. "When the singularity is loose, the medbay is a bloody mess, and the captain is stuck in a maintenance shaft with no electricity, at least we'll know why nothing's getting done to resolve the problems."
It would be amazing to see a ship running smoothly, and then one person silently destroys all the vital systems. Hope this doesn't turn into a death match, though.
We're doing an AMA on reddit this friday at 18:00 UTC.
