This game is not a continuation of the STALKER series in any way; all of it is based (I cannot stress this enough, the game does not follow the book completely, it is merely BASED off of it) off a book written by Russian author Dmitriy Glukhovskiy. Metro 2033 tells the story of a young man Artyom who goes a long way to save his world from mortal danger. The book describes the consequences of an atomic war. Its only survivors strive for existence in the mazes of the Moscow subway (Metro) some two decades after the nuclear Holocaust. Formally a sci-fi novel, Metro 2033 describes a dystopia, in which Russia’s present-day society is superficially analyzed and described. It also critically examines communism in the former Soviet Union and the rise of fascism in modern Russia.[/release] [release]Metro 2034, an indirect sequel to Metro 2033, has sold some 300,000 copies in just 6 months, making it Russia’s biggest local bestseller in 2009. The book has also been published online for free on Metro 2034 Official Web Site, where over a million visitors have read the text. Glukhovsky has turned a book into an art-project, inviting famous Russian electronic performer Dolphin to write an original soundtrack for the novel, while artist Anton Gretchko worked on the oil-painted images gallery. In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. [The Moscow metro was originally built to be the worlds largest underground bunker (or series of bunkers)] The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside. You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate snowy wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind. [*] Metro 2033 is a gripping, atmospheric first person shooter experience powered by cutting edge technology, featuring full DX10 and NVDIA PhysX support for high-end gaming PCs, to deliver incredible visuals. [*] Witness the everyday horrors of a broken society living in constant fear. [*] Brave the darkness of the tunnels, where mutants hunt their prey and ghostly spirits lurk. [*] Explore the desolate city-surface, trusting your gas mask and rifle to protect you from a poisoned world and the creatures that roam there. [*] Steel your nerve and prepare to face the terrors that await.[/release] [release] The game has stunningly rich lighting effects for both the 360 and PC versions, thanks to the 4A engine. The PC version will offer the following extras: [*]Most of the textures are 2048^2 (consoles use 1024^2). [*]The shadow-map resolution is up to 9.43 Mpix. [*]The shadow filtering is much, much better. [*]The parallax mapping is enabled on all surfaces, some with occlusion-mapping (optional). [*]We've utilised a lot of "true" volumetric stuff, which is very important in dusty environments. [*]From DX10 upwards we use correct "local motion blur", sometimes called "object blur". [*]The light-material response is nearly "physically-correct" on the PC on higher quality presets. [*]The ambient occlusion is greatly improved (especially on higher-quality presets). [*]Sub-surface scattering makes a lot of difference on human faces, hands, etc. [*]The geometric detail is somewhat better, because of different LOD selection, not even counting DX11 tessellation. [*]We are considering enabling global illumination (as an option) which really enhances the lighting model. However, that comes with some performance hit, because of literally tens of thousands of secondary light sources.[/release] [release] First off, Metro 2033 made the smart decision to use Steamworks. Hooray! Minimum: [*]Dual core CPU (any Core 2 Duo or better will do) [*]DirectX 9, Shader Model 3 compliant graphics cards (GeForce 8800, GeForce GT220 and above) [*]1GB RAM Recommended: [*]Any Quad Core or 3.0+ GHz Dual Core CPU [*]DirectX 10 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 260 and above) [*]2GB RAM God DAMMIT Time for an Upgrade: [*]Core i7 CPU [*]NVIDIA DirectX 11 compliant graphics card (GeForce GTX 480 and 470) [*]As much RAM as possible (8GB+) [*]Fast HDD or SSD Metro 2033 also utilizes NVIDIA 3D Vision with compatible cards and hardware. Those who wonder if even their two year-old PC is up to snuff, DO NOT WORRY. Metro 2033 should run on it, this was clarified by one of the main staff, but the image is lost, sorry. If your computer can't run it there's always the Xbox version with its wonderful graphics (Try saying that with a straight face, I dare you.)[/release] [release] Screenshots: [/release] [release]To avoid cluster, I uploaded the concept art into a .rar, download below.: [/release] [release]Journey Into The Unknown The Last Refugee Fear The Future [/release] [release]Fan Pages: Official website for Metro 2033 Official RUSSIAN Metro 2034 website [/release] [release] Metro: Last Light is a continuation of Metro 2033, however it is not being based off the book like Metro: 2033 was, this time Dmitry Glukhovsky is writing a completely new storyline for it, so we can be assured the story will be just as good as the last. Plot: Metro: Last Light is set in 2034, it's in the same setting as Metro 2033 - The Moscow Metro. The station-cities of the Metro are struggling for power using the weapons found in D6. The game still follows Artyom - the main protagonist from Metro: 2033 - as supposed to be the "Key to survival" and "The last light in our darkest hour". So far, Artyom, Khan and the Nazi Reich are to return. New weapons like the bolt-action rifle are added as well as well as old weapons such as the Kalashnikov and the Bastard Gun, it is also believed that there is a civil war involved in the plot. [/release] [release]Last Light takes place 20 years in the future, where survivors of an apocalyptic nuclear event still dwell in the relative safety of the Moscow metro system, while poisonous air and all kinds of mutant nasties rule the surface. Each station is reportedly its own city state, housing the extreme ideologies of Neo Nazis and Communists, which are often causing conflict. You once again play as Artyom, a tortured soldier tasked with stopping a civil war in the Metro. 4A has promised to fix glitches, dodgy AI and stealth sections of Metro 2033 ("if you failed to execute your target and merely wounded them, every guard in the area would immediately be alerted and know your exact location") - whilst online multiplayer has been confirmed. In the graphics department, the studio wants to push PC hardware and create "the best-looking game on consoles". IGN reports that it's witnessed "a chase scene on a train was particularly beautiful".[/release] [release] Media [/release] [release] Announcement Trailer: Pre-E3 Trailer: E3 Gameplay - Prologue E3 Gameplay - Part 1 [/release]
The other thread isn't dead yet... oh well. I still really wanna know what the DLC is going to be. But I think I might have figured it out. Apparently there's more books in the series? If they were smart (and awesome) the DLC would be pretty much an "expansion" continuing the story. Metro 2034 or whatever. I have a bad feeling it probably isn't that though and just some gimmicky thing.
Look at the bottom, I added a note on the DLC.
So basically it is going to be some stupid gimmick like "A NEW GUN WOOOAH!". Well that is a big let down
I've seen their facebook profile and It's been in development for a long time, I doubt it's a new gun or a few stupid skins, its not mutiplayer but it is GOOD content. Also, if you guess the title correctly you win a cookie :buddy: Yay for google translate! (which wont work!)

I'm really curious
Will try this when I get a decent PC.
Care to elaborate? I'm really curious
Actually, you were sorta right.
Actually, you were sorta right.
Cool. So yeah a stupid gimmick. 2 "new" guns that are probably just reskins with the same animations, and they changed a few variables in the code and deleted a few lines of code to make the game harder. Stupid. :frown:
Well it's a bit difficult to add DLC to a game like this, at least its something?
Well it's a bit difficult to add DLC to a game like this, at least its something?
Meh like I said they could have done an expansion pack, or some secondary storyline type of thing. Whenever devs for any game always hype up some "NEW CRAZY DLC!" and then it ends up just being a gimmick they expect you to pay $15 for it is sort of insulting...
Hey ZapDing, what about the other books in the Metro 2033 series. There's 3-4 more offshoots of Metro 2033 that came out before 2034 (at least in Russia). Why not have any info on them? But besides that good OP and way to start a thread.
Would you rather have the most amazing DLC ever or Metro 2034? Oh, OP, remove the first Metro 2033 fan site. They merged with the other forums but unfortunately died. Do you want any info about The Metro 2033 Universe series?
I'm at a car level, can't get past. (It's on the earth) (Above everything else)

^ Yeah, those are the books I was referring to. Care to provide a bit more info on them? Like a brief plot blurb or summary on the ones you know plus any other misc info.

Metro 2033 would be so goddamn awesome if it had co-op as DLC.
Metro 2033 would be so goddamn awesome if it had co-op as DLC.
Dude...if Metro 2033 had co-op...i would J.I.M.P
^ Yeah, those are the books I was referring to. Care to provide a bit more info on them? Like a brief plot blurb or summary on the ones you know plus any other misc info.
Travel Features: The heroes own a broken training aircraft, a Yak-18, and must repair it and go to the north to discover the fate of St. Petersburg and its metro. For the first time you will learn if someone survived outside of the Mocow metro and see the northern capital after the nuclear war. Dark Tunnel: The hero is a young anarchist, a thrill seeker who goes against the system. Peter: Peter is a 26 year old stalker and an experienced fighter who passes through many trials and meets inhabitants of the metro he would have never dreamed of. By the Light: An incredible adventure story of twelve boys and the grown-up exploits of a stalker, which together reveal the most surprising and dark mysteries of Petersburg and Kroshtadta. Output Power: In this dizzying adventure novel, the hero discovers the barren land east of Moscow along with impenetrable jungle, new intelligent life, gladiatorial battles, forbidden love, conspiracy, and, finally, the key to one of the major mysteries of Metro 2033. Marble Paradise: This is set not only in Moscow but also in the suburbs in one of the former cities that were previously based in the defense industry. The protagonist has to overcome dozens of miles of empty land to meet with those who have become residents in the Moscow region, faced with dangers waiting to reveal themselves. Wanderer: No info. Last but not least, here is the plot for Metro 2034: At the station Sevastopolskaya cut off for days to the Great Metro appears the mysterious brigadier Hunter. He takes on the lonely struggle against the dark threat that faced the residents of the Metro, and goes on a dangerous expedition into the depths of the tunnel system. At his side is Homer, an old, experienced station resident, who knows the Metro and its legends like no other, and his life's work is to write its history. When the two meet the 17-year-old Sasha, Homer believes he has found in the broken hero and the girl a perfect pair for his epic tales. These are the adventures of Hunter, a former soldier and now a lonely fighter against the dark threat facing the residents of the Metro. Note that the Metro 2034 game will not be based off of this plot but will be based off a new story created by Dmitry Glukhovsky himself that coincides with the previous game's plot a lot more.
I never actually got to beat this game. Plus to be honest I got scared by it a lot.
This thread makes me want to play through it all over again.
i beat the game, ending confused me somewhat, great game though, i'll look for the books if i go to barnes and noble
I have to buy another 5870 to run this in full settings with widescreen, but it also means replacing my PSU, current Mobo (I need 3 PCI x16 slots, the other one has my 9800GT for PhysX calculations) and I'll have to refit everything. Gaaaah.
I loved this game, the atmosphere and the bleak sense of desperation of the humans barely hanging on was just fantastic. I think it could have done a lot more to scare the player with the atmosphere it created, but it is still perfectly fine the way it is. However, I found the game to be really quite difficult, even on easy I was struggling for ammo sometimes because of how much health the enemies seem to have.
I liked the game and its atmosphere enough to buy the actual book. Now, finding time to read said book may be more difficult than the process of buying it...
The game was amazing, one of the best I've ever played, hands down. Not only that, the book is even better, and no doubt the best book I've ever read.
I wish I had waited to get this game for when I got my new computer. But it was still worth it.
I liked the game and its atmosphere enough to buy the actual book. Now, finding time to read said book may be more difficult than the process of buying it...
Same here sort of. I read it online before buying a hard copy and I'm finding it hard to find time to reread it.
I fucking loved that you could tell things had happened in a certain spot before, and that it wasn't just put into the game with no thought put into it. For example, I forget at what part of the game it was, but you can travel through a train car and there's dead bodies, human and mutant, with bullet casings everywhere. I just wished the game was longer.
