Tale of Two Cities: A Pair of Citybuilds by Three Gents (Lods of Pictures)

While most servers update to the newest server plug-ins and such; Soyuz, Themodtester, and myself resolved to a small building project which inevitably got overblown and ended with us building two massive cities. These are both works in progress, but we feel they are complete enough to warrant showing.
The Nordic City:

An overview of the Nordic City, showing the rich district and the Castle Proper.

The docks, showing off the longboats and foreign ships in harbor, as well as another view of the castle wall.

The Castle's courtyard contains several towers, a blacksmith, a well, and of course the barracks for the town's guard.

The local Mages Guild, located in front of the town square, and just aside the Fighter's Guild.

The City facing towards the Jarl's Manor, also showing the Great Tree in the square.

The Manor, sitting atop the hill at the edge of the inner-town.

The Lower Ward, the common people's district. The houses here are thatch or grass roofed and the area is frequented by workers and peasants looking for work or entertainment.
The Arabic City:

The great gates of the City, crested on both sides by serpents wrought of lapis.

An overview of the lower ward, showing the massive clusters of houses and businesses that make up most of the city.

The immense Temple and Bathhouse that make up the center of the town.

The dock district, where goods are imported and exported by Dhow.

A view of the great lighthouse.

A view of the square from eyelevel, just inside the great gate.

The jewel of the city, a grand Hanging Garden.

The interior of the gardens, containing underground fountains and walkways.

The grand sea-facing wing of the gardens.
Our future plans involve opening a small server for some RP and sieges between the two cities, as well as building a third, Japanese/Chinese themed one. Please comment and critique what we've done so far.
Wow, this is very nice! Good job, you guys! How long did all of it take?
That is just incredible. The Arabic City is also very well done in my opinion.
We started the project two weeks ago, and all that remains is the Rich District for the Arabs, and the Poor District for the Nords.
My fingers feel a bit numb after all that :v:
So was this made legit or?
Pictures are not loading..
Try refreshing the page a few times, they still work on this end. If it persists I might switch to another host.
And no we are dirty creative users :v:
I love it.
These are amazing, leaving one question...
Where do you find the time to do these?
Winter break, shit gets real.

Also, we finished the Nordic Lower Ward.
Lol, Facepunch's seasonal falling snow made me freak out for a second when I was looking at all the snow in the pictures. It fits though.
I came in here expecting Carton and Manette, but I'm really impressed with the city, especially the nordic town.
It would be neat as shit to use this as PVP map. Set up an attacking team with a limited amount of leather and stone tools, and for the defending team put a bunch of tools scattered across the city in houses and stuff.

That's what we're planning on doing. The idea is that people connect, are shown the different towns and some objectives on the map, then they chose a faction to represent and a class (classes have different gear, basically) and then you're free to wage war or just RP as you see fit. The map is also designed with TNT-cannons in mind, so one class (engineer) will be able to construct different types of cannons, with limited materials, to breach the walls and what-not.
Dan will probably upload more pictures later; the arab city is pretty much done now, just the "nordic wonder" and a battlefield area left until we're going to live the "siege gamemode".
When will the map be released? I seriously want to have some fun on it
I believe so, once we complete the cities and add a battleground in the middle then we'll be gold. Future versions could then obviously contain things like the Japanese city, and anything else we decide to go for.
The latest version also is populated by lots of Villager NPCs, so the place feels a bit less dead than before. :v:
American city? v:v:v
Basically some grid patterned roads with a commercial center in the middle with some small houses surrounding it. Maybe some wheat fields on the outskirts.
If that sounds a little too modern, you could always go the log cabin route.
I had tested a few modern buildings and streets in Singleplayer and I do say I enjoyed it. I would mark that up likely to a solo project unless the team would be up for it.
I can't wait till the server is up!
Also could I suggest maybe a South American city?
Set in a clearing in a jungle, the buildings are built around some hills and a massive waterfall.
The wonder could be a giant golden temple at the top of the waterfall.
Think El Dorado.

And if you plan to do faction based warfare with classes, how about making skins for each of the factions and classes and tell people to change into them for the war events.
I dunno, could be a nice touch I suppose.
this thing is great. i love the arabic archetecture and like how you did the thached roofs but might i suggest using yellow wool intead i think it works well
The Nordic City is impressive but honestly, I'm far more impressed by the originality and creativity of the Arabic City. You've actually inspired me to make a little Middle-Eastern bazaar.
Everything sucked untill the last image came, ooohh ya!

We have been planning on adding a bazaar ourselves, the problem we've been running into is making it feel small and crowded but still detailed.
We've completed the "rich" district in the Arabic city now, and the hanging gardens are pretty much done too. Right now we're going to make a "Bleak Falls Barrow"-esque wonder for the Nords then we'll probably get around to actually testing sieges.
