To ensure the best possible experience on the platform, we've teamed up once again with the pros at Nixxes, who previously worked on the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and last year's Tomb Raider. Now that we're done tinkering and optimizing every aspect of the game, we can finally announce the minimum and recommended system requirements. Minimum System Requirements OS: Windows Vista with platform update CPU: High-performance dual core CPU or quad core CPU RAM: 4 GB Graphics Card: AMD Radeon 4800 series / Nvidia GTS 250 DirectX: DirectX 10 HDD/SSD: 20 GB Recommended Specs OS: Windows 7 or 8 CPU: AMD FX 8000 series or better / Intel Quad 17 Core CPU RAM: 4+ GB Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD R9 series or better / Nvidia GTX 660 series or better DirectX: DirectX 11 HDD/SSD: 20 GB

Other PC Features Input & UI Full mouse & keyboard integration for the user interface with customized context bar, all buttons are clickable and can be controlled with keyboard. I don't see it. I mean, it says features but it lists the basic stuff a PC game should have. Oh wait, there it is. 4k res support. Oh and 3D as well. Wow. But seriously, that's okay specs. Okay ...I honestly forget the word. I know it's not refining. Or patching or mainstreaming. Or nerfing. What the fuck is it with my brainses this night. Streamlining? Anyway they've done an okay job on getting it run on inferior machina. Shit, I should get some sleep.
hell yea steam trading cards.
Doesn't matter, game is awful anyways. Source: Someone streamed the whole damn game on Xbox already.
now i can steal real money from suckers that'll buy these off the market.
Doesn't matter, game is awful anyways. Source: Someone streamed the whole damn game on Xbox already.
other than the throw-up worth voice acting it looks like an ok game
I saw the ending last night. They really fucked up on this game.
other than the throw-up worth voice acting it looks like an ok game
It's not, "ok" doesn't even come close. Stealth is piss-easy for 99 percent of the game, and there's actually a level where you don't sneak at all. You have stupid shit like a scripted sequence where you jump through a window and dash across rooftops dodging arrows or the godawful ending. Combat is a joke, you just whale on enemies with your blackjack until they fall over, then hold a button to do a THIRD PERSON takedown. The takedown animation lasts about 3 seconds and is the same every time. You can't jump. Let me repeat that--you can't jump. All climbing is contextual and pressing the button when you're not near a climbable object does this stupid swoop that you can spam to move sanic-fast across entire levels with almost no cooldown after spamming it. And to make things worse, there are numerous places where being able to jump would be the most useful thing, but you're forced to do something else because, again, YOU CAN'T JUMP. The sound design is awful all around, not just voices. Subtitles for people speaking pop up when you can't hear the actual dialogue at all, and people talking nearby sound like they're talking right into both your ears. The music is really inconsistent as well--certain actions will cause this giant blare of dramatic music that drops away just as quickly a few seconds later. Some areas have almost no ambient sound, so as soon as you stop moving it's just totally silent. Textures are awful and take a few seconds (!) after you approach them to load in fully. Loading screens are everywhere, expect to encounter them every 5 seconds if you're moving quickly through a level. This game isn't even worth pirating. Stay away.
o Fov sliders
Well I think Total Biscuit's going to like this. [editline]23rd February 2014[/editline]
It's not, "ok" doesn't even come close. We only have their word on that.
Sounds like a bad pc port. I hope it's not.
Honestly, even if the technical issues were fixed for the PC release, the bad writing/acting and the shitty stealth, movement, and combat would still be enough to condemn it.

Yes, that's the word.

I think the worst part with all the hate for this game is that it's probably going to sell very badly, so the square enix executives will probably be very annoyed at Eidos Montreal, and then they'll cut funding for the next game to come from Eidos Montreal, which is probably the next deus ex game. So because of en masse toxicity and general jadedness/idiotic nostalgia for a bunch of stealth games which weren't that good anyway (they just happened to be the best thing to come out at the same time), the die hard thief fans may have risked killing the next deus ex game, or at least making it suck additional balls by having less funding, or the square enix suits might force Eidos Montreal to release the next deus ex quicker, so it could end up being a rushed mess like this game appears to be in places.

I got it for free with my video card, no big deal if it sucks.

While we're on the subject of making ridiculous predictions about what happens when people you don't like get their way, why don't we just say that old-school thief fans KILLED THE ENTIRE STEALTH GENRE because one game didn't sell well.(By the way, it'll sell like hotcakes. It won't be the Dishonored-killer that the shareholders want, but it will almost certainly turn a profit.)
I think it's going to be one of those love it or hate it games. Some people who played and liked the older games will hate it on principle, while others will like it. Didn't Deadly Shadows have the same problem, except it was even rougher than this Thief? We should turn this thread into a Thief series general, if there isn't one already. Considering we've got a new Thief game coming out, plus you've got big community stuff like the Dark Mod or Thief Gold HD mod out there's a lot going on in the community.

I'm not a fan of the blind hatred towards this new game (I don't think it's going to be all that great, but it seems to have some solid design choices behind it) either, but I'm really curious as to what you think made the original Thief games not that good. I've been playing through the series for the first time in the past month or so, and am almost done with Thief 2, and I think they're some of the best stealth games I've ever played.
