So, What-A-Baller posted on reddit his finding about the MMR and the distribution of players in each percentage, you can find the whole post here: http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1y44o4/matchmaking_and_ratings/ And the distribution graph here: http://i.imgur.com/zRpDkiH.png I'm rocking the 70% of players with around 3200 MMR, what about you? Any 5000 MMR pubstompers? :)
I'm thinking in reaching the bottom 0.1% to feel special
not an accurate portrayal of the average dota player as they're asking redditors to give them their mmr - While they're not amazing, they're probably better than the average guy
It would appear I'm around top 20% when I have ~4,1k mmr, yay. I'm still a pretty bad player though considering I have not even played Invoker once.
4k is probably top 1%
Hmm then I interpreted that graph wrong..
no, ignore the graph is what I'm saying They're taking a bad sample of how good people are so it should be entirely ignored as irrelevant. I'm not just saying this because my MMR isn't that good - just take a look at 'Recent Games' and have a feel for the amount of trench there is
Unless Valve start behaving like a proper developer and give those random numbers on your profile a meaning you can take those "stats" with a shipload of salt.
its very frustrating how they wont give proper stats but I get the feeling the real stats are very similar to what they gave on release
4k is probably top 1%
according to the graph on reddit, 4000 isnt even 1 standard deviation away from the mean, looks like 4k is about 70th percentile. unless you're talking about bad sampling? I doubt it, reddit is probably pretty close to the average. it seems to be close the average in other games too. the average mmr is probably somewhere in the range of 3.5 to 4k

I don't play ranked matches because I'm a filthy casual, where do I fit?
um are you really claiming the average guy goes out of his way and talks about dota on forums Because I'm telling you there are not 6 million(?) people doing that
most people don't even play ranked though, as seen in the post.
According to the bot, I'm in the 15th percentile.
yeah a bunch of dunning-kruger redditors who believe they should be at 4k when they are 3.2k are totally going to say they're at 3.2k
... did you even read the thread? the bot doesnt ask you shit, it automatically gets your mmr without asking you. [editline]17th February 2014[/editline] i did it, it told me my correct mmr and then gave me my percentile
how often is the graph updated? it's a static image
I don't play ranked matches because I'm a filthy casual, where do I fit?
I don't play ranked matches because I couldn't give two fucks about ranks. E-peen is one thing I hate with all my soul and a little more.
how often is the graph updated? it's a static image
yeah its just a single guy who frequently makes threads with more updated results, obviously its not exactly precise, but it gives you a general idea of the mmr of the people on /r/dota2 (the ones willing to do a survey)
I don't like this graph because it uses the Valve MMR which is random as fuck and doesn't count skill. It only counts wins which is pretty BS in a game like Dota.
im in 0.01% with 6k mmr i play with dendi and eternalenvy all the time
I don't play ranked matches because I'm a filthy casual, where do I fit?
I am actually thinking to leave ranking matches altogether. I can't see any substantial difference between them and normal matches, to be honest
I am actually thinking to leave ranking matches altogether. I can't see any substantial difference between them and normal matches, to be honest
I do, lot's more matches with next to equal score rather then incredibly one-sided by the end of the game.
im in tba that means im best player right guys
