What is EQN Landmark ?
EverQuest Next Landmark is a Free to Play, next-generation online sandbox game. Build and explore a world unlike anything you've seen before.
Whats the difference between EQN and EQNL ?
EverQuest Next Landmark is a world where you can design and make anything you can imagine! Objects and buildings that players construct may be featured in EverQuest Next.
What are the main points of EQNL
*Build Anything — Create and build anything you can imagine. With Landmark's state of the art tools, you have unprecedented control over your creations. A range of materials with realistic physics means how you build makes a difference.
*Explore — Explore massive Landmark worlds and claim territory, building materials and much more. Delve deep into the earth and discover procedurally—generated adventures that will never be the same twice!
*Make Your Mark — The best buildings players create will become part of Norrath — the EverQuest Next world — FOREVER! We'll run exclusive contests to design parts of the world AND our designers will keep an eye out for the coolest fortresses, castles, caves, treehouses, fireplaces – anything awesome that fits within the world of Norrath.
*Collect — The rarest resources, objects, gear, character customizations and secrets are scattered across the worlds of Landmark! Can you find everything?
*Earn Money — Buy and sell items in Player Studio, SOE's marketplace for player-created goods. Design, create and sell items and earn real world cash on every purchase! Click here for more details on Player Studio.
What Payment model will the game use on launch ?
The game will be Free to Play on launch and will allow you to buy items in an ingame shop such as cosmetics. The extent to what you can buy has not been said yet.
EQNL is currently in alpha and will be for a few months. Currently the only way to start playing is if you have a founders pack of tier 2 or 3 those being the Explorer pack and the Trailblazer pack. You can buy one from the link below
https://www.eqnlandmark.com/founders-pack
Alternatively you can wait for Closed beta and get in if you have a Settlers pack that you can buy from the same link above or wait for Open beta and start playing for free.
If you want to know more about the Founders packs watch this video

So considering the NDA is lifted already I decided I would take some pictures to explain the current look of things in the game (I will update these pictures as the layout changes in game over time)
Take note all images in this are thumbed so click on them to enlarge them.
At times the game can look really beautiful and yes these pictures are taken with the settings on Ultra as those are the settings I play the game on currently.

How do Claims work and what are they ?
In EQNL you can break anything around you that is not claimed and the world will heal it's self after 20 minutes. The only way to build is to claim land using a claim flag and you keep hold of this claim by paying an upkeep of ingame currency or resources. If you lose your claim all of your stuff will be packaged up and a template of your claim will be made so the only thing you are losing is your spot on the world. All you have to do is go find another piece of land and stick your flag down again. If you want to increase your claim size you have to craft another claim flag and put it down next to your existing claim but this will increase your upkeep cost.
In the options menu you can choose to see if you want to see the boundaries of your claim to make it easier to build. When someone walks into your claim a name and description that you set will display. You can also edit the permissions of your claim.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/TGs7DBv.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/vgVOnyI.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/KRq7Uso.png[/t]
Whats the map like and how does it work?
From the map you can toggle what claims you see and search for other claims as you can add tags to your claims. The flags represent peoples claims and you can tick a box to show the buffer in red for where you cannot claim. When the buffer is on all land not red can be claimed.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/vA4jPkt.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/whK4rmP.png[/t]
What do the crafting menus look like?
Crafting menus are simple. They tell you what you need to make the item and how many of that item you can make.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/qrvgKk0.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/DXTIgmt.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/Eer4pTj.png[/t]
How does storage work?
To store items you can put things into your inventory or craft vaults to store things on the claim of land. Another method is to craft a Void vault that gives you access a special inventory that can be accessed from any place a Void vault is unlike standard vaults.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/bFsEXfE.png[/t]
How does the inventory work?
Your inventory is split up into two parts. You have a part for your crafted items and abilities and another part for your resources. Your resources are stored as one stack for each type and currently there does not seem to be a limit to how much you can hold.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/wNdkPkv.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/o1UoRtW.png[/t]
Whats the character sheet?
The character sheet shows what items are equipped to your character and on the right it shows the buffs you have been given. (I am wearing a ring that boosts resource gain but the icon is currently invisible and also your character does not show)
[t]http://i.imgur.com/mkvZb1i.png[/t]
Whats that blue flag on the left?
If you hover over the flag you can change what materials are selected as well as your current shape you are using. You can also access your templates from here.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/XJLS8A7.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/4qOCVzw.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/XawpnIu.png[/t]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/j9Vky8N.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/8kFGOvD.png[/t]
Where do I spawn and how do servers work?
In EQNL you can easily swap to any server or biome with your character taking all your resources items and if you want to claims. You can have multiple claims on multiple servers if you can afford the upkeep costs. When you first spawn you will spawn near a large odd looking device that you can use to teleport you to other biomes and servers.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/WTGdebM.png[/t]
Finally how do you get started?
When you spawn there will be a stone forge at the large device and you will use this to craft your basics equipment and eventually your own stone forges and saws so you can put them on your claim. Have fun playing EQNL.

So will there be any actual pvp shit in this or is it just building?
So will there be any actual pvp shit in this or is it just building?
So combat is something they fully plan on adding as well as most of the other stuff you would expect to see in EQN next year such as mounts and stuff.
At first it is believed they will do PVE as they have already started making creatures to fight.
It will start out with things like this Chomper and they will expand on there.

They have said that they want to do PVP but have not said when.

Edit: I also just found out you can actually hide the UI by pressing Alt + F10. I spent all that time photoshoping out the UI on the banner for nothing. (well it only took a few minutes really but still)
Loving the game so far. The only problem is that everything on my plot got erased and then somebody took the plot for their own! It was a good location!
I think some people still don't realize that there is a distinction between Everquest Next Landmark and Everquest Next. One is pretty much for building while the other is the actual MMO.
[editline]3rd February 2014[/editline]
Also OP should make a list of players on FP and their names ingame. Its safe since the NDA is gone.
If anyones up for it we can establish an island on Serenity to put Facepunchers and act as a group. I'd be willing to delete my claim to move to it if other FPers are.
[editline]3rd February 2014[/editline]
My ingame name is SuicideJeep if OP plans on adding a list.
[editline]3rd February 2014[/editline]
I swear I need to stop editing this for anyone who plans on buying in at the moment now is the best time. They're bringing up a new server called Serenity which will have more claims to take.
Also please place your claims in the jungle. There is a lot of woodcutting to get anywhere. The desert has hardly any wood.
Seriously, EQNL can be considered a lumberjack simulator.
There is something mighty satisfying about digging out the side of a mountain with a pick axe.
Loving the game so far. The only problem is that everything on my plot got erased and then somebody took the plot for their own! It was a good location!
Great news on this you are getting that stuff back.
Hey folks,
Over the weekend, a bunch of folks lost voxel changes AND the props they had on their claims. (Stuff like saw tables, stone forges, etc.)
We just figured out a way to recover the props.
Unfortunately, we can't recover the voxel changes, but we did find ways to prevent future losses (hopefully).
Regarding the props: As of tomorrow's update (Tuesday), the next time you log into the game and go to your claim, look in your inventory. The props should be there again.
So if you rebuild them today...that's great! But just know that we're pretty sure you'll get them back again tomorrow!

I think some people still don't realize that there is a distinction between Everquest Next Landmark and Everquest Next. One is pretty much for building while the other is the actual MMO.
Well EQN Landmark is an actual MMO and a game in its own right they just share the same engine and art style (assets and stuff)
PVE and PVP as well as mounts and all the other cool stuff is completely planned for in the future this game is not just for building it is simply that building is the only thing implemented right now. When EQNL is done the only difference between it and EQN is that one has a story with no advanced building and the other has no story but has advanced building.
They have said about eventually allowing players to place npc's and stuff so they can make their own story but it is for probably years into the future.
I can add a list if you like this seems like the kind of thread that will stay small until we hit open beta. I will do that in a bit.
I like my mountain spot but I still need to gather more resources before I start building so I am up for moving to serenity. Considering the ques for servers are in the thousands sometimes I bet all the good spots will be taken long before we get onto it anyway unless we make sure we are the first in line.

News !!!!
EQNL and EQN are now officially 64-bit games and will not run on 32-bit systems.
Ready about it here (Note you need to have access to the alpha forums to go to the thread)
https://forums.station.sony.com/eqnlandmark/index.php?threads/we-are-a-64-bit-os-game-officially.9497/
I can already see dick shaped buildings being made
Thankfully stuff like this will not stay around for long. With an upkeep system people who just join to make stupid shit and leave will lose their claim and the stuff will be erased from the world if they don't pay the upkeep.
Also you can report other peoples claims if they make stuff purely to be offensive. I am unsure if dicks will be considered offensive but who knows.

Any voxel changes you made are lost but thankfully it is fixed now so no worries about it in future.
Well, sometimes a fix makes you <facepalm>. This is one of those times. Here’s your explanation.
All of the voxel data was being saved across multiple databases when it should have been going to a single database. When we tried to retrieve it after a server outage we were getting none of the voxel data because it wasn’t saved correctly.
Each time we outaged the servers (several times) in the last few days, the data became more and more permanently mish-mashed, thus becoming impossible to parse correctly.
So the truth is…that data is gone. However, now that this issue is fixed, any future changes you make will finally (at last!) be saved correctly and you should lose no more voxel data.
We’re pretty darned confident this change is correct. We have tested this change by making edits, then outaging the servers again internally, then starting the world again to verify that the voxel changes are there. They are.
This really, really should be fixed. We ran internally for over four months without ANY voxel data being lost. It’s only this new server configuration that was new, and now that this is fixed, the issue shouldn’t happen any longer. (The problem in this case was a SINGLE setting. By fixing that one setting, all the other problems that cascaded from it are also resolved.)

Yeah, this took a bunch of our time tonight, but it was so very worth it. But it did push back Serenity until tomorrow morning. If we didn't let Steve Klug go home, his family might have come looking for us with weapons ready. :) We'll get the new server up and running first thing tomorrow when everyone is back in the office and we can make sure all is well with the (new) world!
and
To answer a few questions from people:
This only addresses lost voxel changes. We know about a bug that is causing lost claims and the fix will be out for that very soon. We haven't tracked down the cause of lost props, but luckily, most of them aren't actually lost and we do have a fix that will give those back to you.
And to the people asking about what the setting was, it wasn't actually a DB setting, it was a setting in the servers we use to save/load from the DB that was the ultimate culprit. A 1 should have been a 0. Pesky numbers.

Wow this is great, I'd love to see more AAA sandbox games
Shit tons more updates. These guys are really good at pushing out updates daily.
Update that happened Monday
Claims
We overestimated how many claims we thought would fit on a single world. So, now, we have too few worlds for the number of players we have in Alpha.
Solution: Spin up more worlds. As soon as humanly possible. The first such world (Serenity) will open tonight if possible. Tomorrow morning if we run into snags. We are acquiring hardware for more right now and will let you know ASAP when we’re ready to fire them up.
Also, the map and claim interfaces are practically impenetrable with the huge number of claims on a single Island. What looked decent when we had 10-15 claims looks horrific with hundreds.
Solution: We are completely overhauling the map and claims interface to make it extremely easy to understand at a glance.
Details:
o You will never see a Claim buffer again. We still HAVE claim buffers, but they’ll be invisible. You will have “claimable space” and “unclaimable” space. Claimable space is blue, and unclaimable is red.
o This is just a ‘paintover’ of the terrain on the map. No more 3D representations of buffer spaces. Those are dead, dead, dead.
o To place a claim, you just open the map, look for a blue section and go place your claim there.
o On the other hand, your claim boundaries will still be shown as a 3D box. That way you can see where the claim is located vertically. (up in the sky, on the surface, or below-ground)
o There’s a few more nice things getting added since we’re touching it, but those will be obvious when you see the new interface.
· We intend to get this improved interface up and running this week sometime.
So what else are we working on?
PLEASE NOTE: Just because something is not on this list does not mean we are unaware of it. There are many things to improve and add to this game, but this is the list of immediate stuff that we're attacking right now. :)
Server stability
o The memory leak fixes helped a LOT, but although they are smaller, there are still other memory leaks. Eliminating those will extend periods of time between Island resets.
Fixing Templates
o These don’t persist between logins right now. Which is terrible because that’s exactly the opposite of what’s intended. Fix coming ASAP.
Logout position needs to be maintained so that players don’t login to some bizarre position instead.
We’re setting things up so that having a tool equipped doesn’t force you to unequip it in order to use a building tool. (Should auto-de-equip instead.)
A means to get back “inside the world” if someone manages to get stuck outside of it
o Players are using the ADD block functionality to get out of the world. We’re creating a rescue plan for those folks as well as looking into ways to prevent that from happening.
Invert Y-Axis functionality
o Many folks are used to having reversed Y-axis controls and they get very turned around without it.
To prevent our voxel database from crashing under load, we are converting it to 64-bit processes. That will make our DB very stable, and we can then ensure that any other issues no longer have this variable in the discussion so we can narrow down any other “voxel loss” issues quickly.
Bug fixes for a few recipes and salvage rewards
The 20% resource potion is supposed to last two weeks but wears off when you log out right now. (Obviously, that’s much less useful.) We’re fixing this and restoring the effect to players.
More character customizations (art team)
More props (art team)
More biomes (art team)
Update that happened Tuesday
Fixed a number of client and server crashes to help improve stability!
Fixed a bug that was causing the loss of half of the voxel changes players were making around the world!
Fixed an issue in character create and character select where you had to select a different server and then select the server you really wanted to ensure you started on the right world.
Fixed a problem with the Alpha Potion not properly working after you logged out or moved between worlds. The potion should now work as intended.
Fixed a bug that would cause players to lose props when using “cut” or “delete” with a selection volume.
There is currently an issue where sometimes props you’ve placed in your claim disappear from the world. We’re still trying to find the root of the problem, but in the meantime we have something to help the situation. Now, if you go to the island your claim is on, it will attempt to refund any items the game has data about that have disappeared. If you placed more than one of an item, you’ll only get one back unfortunately.
Fixed a bug where sometimes when you activated a building tool (often delete or heal) it would act like you should be able to use it but no cursor would show up.
Fixed an issue where the map and claims placement view would “accumulate” data as you moved from island to island. This made it impossible to see the true state of any given island without logging out and back in.
Fixed some issues with the starting movie so that now you can alt-tab in and out of it without locking down your desktop. So now you can make Dave smaller…now if only his voice started going higher and higher as he got smaller and smaller…
Fixed an issue when switching between tools where sometimes you had to try to equip the new tool twice.
Fixed an issue that could result in claims being lost if they were created shortly before a zone crashed.
Added an option for Y-axis Invert.
Added loot notifications anytime you get something. So now, you’ll see what you crafted, what you got from the bags rewarded by using the sifter, and any other way you receive items in the game!
We’ve disabled salvaging while we tune the amount of resources returned when salvaging something.
We’ve reduced the time a voxel placed outside your claim stays in the world. Down from 1 hour to 1 minute.
Added a new command on the Main Menu (escape menu) called “Evac to Safety”. This is useful if you happen to get stuck in places you shouldn’t be…
Characters will now show their equipment in Character Select.
Changed the zoom in effect during character create to be centered on the eyes.
The Founder’s Pickaxe now has the appropriate particle effect playing on it. Oooo, prettier shiny!
Updated the visuals for other players’ names.
Fixed a number of issues with cursors not updating properly as you move the mouse around.
Fixed some problems where multiple key presses at the same time could result in incorrect behavior.
Fixed a problem with broken tooltips for some items and crafting recipes.
Added the proper model to the Vault (NOT the Founder’s Vault) and renamed it Rustic Stone Vault.
Removed “Natural” from the names of Amaranthine, Alabaster, Marble and Obsidian.
Added a maximum range for emotes so they aren’t seen from halfway across the zone.
Oh yeah, and we're launching Serenity along with this as well. No big deal, right? :)
More news.
A bunch of stuff happening today, all designed to get you MORE ROOM TO CLAIM! (huzzah)
* We are opening up 39 new islands today! (That's 13 new islands per world.)
* We are eliminating all the duplicate claims that people have in the world currently. Once those are eliminated, it will free up the equivalent of 7 new islands worth of space!!!
* A new world with servers located physically in Europe will open soon (which is yet *another* 38 new islands coming). (NOTE: The European server will not launch today, but will launch very soon.)
* There's a ton of new hardware on the way so that we can add still more worlds in the near future.
So yeah...you'll have tons of claims available very soon.
So GREAT news! More room for everyone. Today!!!
Now...in regards to the "elimination of duplicate claims". We strongly suggest you consolidate your claims down to just one if you have more than one currently. Because if you don't, then only your oldest claim will survive after today's update.
https://forums.station.sony.com/eqnlandmark/index.php?threads/more-room-we-need-more-room.12337/
There's a bunch of annoying stuff that has happened recently while the servers were unstable and that stuff needs to be cleaned up. (Trash Day!)
Here's the stuff that's happening today at 3pm when we outage the servers:
Any deleted character has had their claim removed. (And such removal is automatic in the future. Don’t worry about it.)
Any extra claim flags in your inventory or vault have been removed.
Any character with more than one claim has been reduced to a single claim. The claim that remains is the oldest claim they possessed.
NOTE: Any crafting tables, props, or voxel changes they made on those claims stay in the world, so if someone wants to claim those areas afterward, you can clean up on some good stuff if you can find and claim it.
If you have a character that did not receive Founder’s Pack items, you will be getting a grant of them today.
And if you DELETE a character in the future, you WILL get Founder’s Items for that new character.
We are not eliminating Founder’s item duplicates from your inventory if you have them. Enjoy!
There’s only one thing we couldn’t get to today, and we *promise* you that we haven’t forgotten you. Those few of you that have no claim *and* no flag…we’ll be making sure you’re taken care of before the weekend! (But not today. Sorry.)
NOTE: The Portal Crystal is lying to you about where your claims are located. We’ll work hard to get that fixed soon also so that if you can’t remember where it is, you can find it. There are 114 islands in the game now, so warping around trying to find a claim is getting harder, not easier. We need the interface to work correctly and it shall be done.

I don't get what this is.

Does this have anything to do with Next and what happens when Next is released.
Its basically minecraft if it was made by an AAA development team and was an MMO. Some buildings made in it may end up in Next though if they're good enough.

This is why I hate the fact that they splat EQN onto to name of this. As far as gameplay goes this game has nothing to do with Everquest or Next at all. This is a building game that will introduce pvp and pve later on.
You can basically say this is Minecraft but what it should of been.
I think that sticking the words Everquest Next in the title is going to scare people away and just confuse them. This is it's own independent game and get a name to signify that instead its name just makes it look like an extension or expansion for Eeverquest or next.
I bet people have just glanced over this thread because of the words everquest in the title.
I only looked thinking it was something about Everquest Next.

I know i did until just now. :v:
So the NDA on this has been lifted, right?
So is this Wurm but done better?
Is alpha under NDA?
Last I heard it was really hard to get your own plot of land with the current size of the world.
Is it still like that? Considering the purchase but I'd rather hold off if I can't build anything.
Not anymore, they released it instead of policing the streamers.
Is alpha under NDA?

So the NDA on this has been lifted, right?
NDA is officially lifted (states so in the OP as well but it is a bit of a read so I understand missing it)

They originally kept servers and islands small to stress test and see just how many people they could cram into them but now they are going to ramp up the amount of servers and islands over time. They already added serenity and I have not had time to jump on but from the latest updates there are either 39 more islands ingame or coming soon.
So is this Wurm but done better?
I only ever played Wurm for a short period of time so it is hard to remember exactly what the gameplay was like for it exactly but kind of.
Here is a little run down.
World is made up out of voxels but done way better than anything I have seen before so a big improvement over what Wurm was like in that area. The ground will grow back after 20 minutes but if you have claimed that land it will not grow back because you might want to make an underground base or something like that.
Resources for testing purposes are currently found all on the surface and are split up into 3 tiers on different types of islands. Generally 1 resource is on the surface and another type connected to it but underground as a vain. This is all going to change as they will instead put resources not just underground but where you would expect to find them such as iron near mountains. Resources grow back with the land but in different places so people cannot farm a spot.
Building is done by claiming land and to keep the world fresh and ever changing their are upkeep costs for your land so if you don't pay it your ownership will disappear and someone else can come and claim that land on build there. You wont lose anything all your stuff is put in your inventory and you get your claim flag back as well as a template for your claim so as long as you can afford the upkeep you can plant it back down some other place exactly as it was or in the same place if it has not been claimed.
Currently no hunting or animals or food it is alpha and very bare bones just building. So no survival type stuff yet. To be honest I don't actually know if they plan on adding stuff like hunger but we will eventually get PVP and PVE.
I don't remember much else about Wurm so I cannot say much else.
Any way to zoom the camera out from your character? It's pretty uncomfortable how close the character is by default in my opinion.
Edit:
Okay, shift + mouse wheel apparently does it.
Hmm if it's lifted then, would *love* to see some player footage from FP :)

Yeah I did not think it was that obvious to start with either it took me a good 5 minutes to realize you could actually zoom in and out. Also if you zoom in all the way you will go into first person. Sadly you cannot see your arms or legs or anything in first person yet but it does make it easier to mine in small spaces.
Hmm if it's lifted then, would *love* to see some player footage from FP :)
All of the images in the OP are screenshots of mine I haven't used anything from anywhere but I will be taking pictures and making videos when I get a chance I simply haven't had time to play at all over the past 2 days but I have been able to keep up with the news for it.
I will try and get videos made to show the feel of the game and what its all about. Being Friday tomorrow I should have time over the weekend to make some videos and get more pictures.
Oh right, didn't realise the pictures were yours but i was looking through them earlier, just curious how the game feels etc.
do you keep your claim forever?
do you keep your claim forever?
In release there will be upkeep, but for alpha there is none so we effectively hold our claims until they get wiped.
Some news.

1) We greatly improved the reliability of the Portal Crystal. In theory, you should be able to click there and FIND OUT WHERE YOUR CLAIM IS LOCATED! Go forth and find your hidden world!
2) We believe that this will finally ensure that the players that did not yet receive their Founder's Pack items are at last granted them so that they can prove they're cool and have all the neat items.
That's all that's changing tonight. Tomorrow, there will be a very large update, but we'll post those details tomorrow so as to avoid confusion tonight.
Same thread further in.
Hi everyone,
A quick update on this evening's patch. Tonight's update made the portal crystals show more claims, but there are other reported issues that are still being looked into and worked on.
Tonight's patch also granted Founder's Pack items, though some people may have received doubles/extra.
Finally, and VERY IMPORTANT: do NOT delete your claim unless you have enough room in your inventory for everything on the claim AND the claim flag. If you do not have enough inventory space, you will lose the claim flag.
We will be doing another update tomorrow (Friday, February 7), and more details will be posted then.
Thanks,

Also the updates have generally been released by the time I post them as because of time difference I go to bed lets say 1am UK time they still don't post the update notes and release it until a few hours later. This means I get up go to college and post the news when I get in.
Oh and right now I post news around 5pm as most days I finish college around 4pm but on a Monday I don't even finish college until 6pm (long day 9 to 6) and I eat out to so I wont be posting news until like 7-8pm UK time.
