Hello facepunch
Two years ago, the Source 2007 Source code was leaked to the public, me and 3 other Russian scene hackers (Cyniu, Xhowie, Pyrelliax) have been working nonstop to reverse engineer the Source Engine. We are now very close!
What is FreeSource?
FreeSource is an opensource version of the Source engine, used in HL2, CSS, TF2 and other Valve games. We have reverse engineered it so it
A- Runs on steam
B- We can easily mod it
C- bigger understanding of VAC
With it being open source, we can port it on many devices that Valve would never port it to.
What is the compatibility?
So far
Orange Box games: Working with old version
Left 4 Dead: Hacked together thanks to Cyniu, somewhat working
CS:S: Working
CS:GO: Does not launch at all. Believed to be a new engine version?
when will release
Soon. Pay attention to the thread for the release!

Got any verifiable information about this? Website, pictures, source code?
I'm sure Valve will be 100% alright with this if you do end up releasing it.
well this sounds legal and not just a bunch of guys trying to compile the leaked code.
Valve doesn't care enough about it.
wow it must be really hard to reverse engineer source code!
Spite this probably being illegal, I'm interested
This both sounds really good for mods and really bad for everything else.
It would be interesting if someone made a clean clone of Source like Xash3D
Also you can already run Source 2009 mods on android if you compile for Linux ARM and run over HL2 Android
huh? can i play like hl2 on my phone?

maybe
Judging by the fact you don't know what build of the engine cs:go runs on, I find this to be another teamgaben try at nothing of value.
You know what would be easier? Making your own damn engine.
You know what would be simpler? Buying a copy of the damn game.
Don't even bother with the false pretense that this is being done for any reason other than pirating the game. Fucking commies.
On the off chance that this isn't just a joke, would it be easy to separate the engine from steam for the singleplayer games? And you mentioned porting it to devices that valve would never port to. How is that even possible given that the source engine relies on DirectX, which limits it to windows whether you have the source code or not?

I assume they've changed the renderer to openGL like the mac and linux versions use.

This seems a bit more of a concern than piracy
Just looking over the post again, and I see some sure signs of trolling. He refers to himself and his team as Russians "hackers", not coders, and below his username it says he is from America. And he doesn't even know that CS:GO is on a newer version of Source, a fact that just about anyone who knows anything about Source would know.

pretty sure flagdog makes OP of every thread American (unless they fixed that idk if they did though)

Source 2007 had no OpenGL support and I somewhat doubt they've ported it though I'd like to be proven wrong.

Source 2007 uses an older version of VAC and I don't believe any VAC code was in the leak anyway.
