Looking for a cheap minecraft server for 3 people!

Hi, me and a couple of friends want to get into minecraft, but we need a server to play on. We tried hosting one locally on our own computers, but that didn't work out.
We are looking for the cheapest alternative here, we will be running fully vanilla minecraft but we don't want any performance issues. We all live in Sweden.

I found this site called ownagehosting.com, but looked around and most people seem to discourage from buying a server from there

Yea you could try out Realms, but it seems a bit pricey, especially if you'll only have 3 people online.

I'm rather surprised that you have trouble running the server locally, are you using the default MC server or Bukkit? (Hint: I strongly recommend trying Bukkit!)

I've heard good things about gameservers.com as far as Rust servers go and they have SUPER cheap MC servers (as low as $5 a month). If you really want to go the hosted route then I think they'd be a good one to try.
On the gameservers website they have a bunch of "test" servers (they're actually rented servers, owned by other people), pretty much all of them are empty... You could just find one close to you and hop on one of those and play for free. Of course the only problem is that you won't have control over the server and who knows if it'll just go down someday, but it would be free.
