In this thread the topic will be legends and hoaxes and other things about video games. These can range from the downright horrifying to the little things you believed like "If you hold B when you throw a pokeball you have a better chance of catching the pokemon!" Creepypastas about videogames are welcome as well whether it be something serious or "a photorealistic skeleton jumped out of my TV and killed me" I remember this thread from long before I joined Facepunch when I heard about the Ratman in Grand Theft Auto: IV. This thread has been dead for a while and I think its about time we revive it. I'm no good at making OP's so I'm going to steal some stuff from the other threads: Michael Jackson Composed Sonic 3's Music
Collaboration between the King of Pop and the Prince of Speed seems reasonable enough. After all, SEGA, had developed Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for the arcade and a slew of home consoles four years prior, and Sonic had recently become a pop culture icon. Legend has it Michael Jackson's involvement would have been a selling point for the hedgehog's threequel, but Jackson's child molestation allegations forced SEGA to distance themselves from the star and put an end to the project. True or false, there's no denying Jackson's musical styling influenced the jazzy-poppy background beats on the Sonic 3 soundtrack...and regardless it's still a hot topic.
LSD Dream Emulator:
is a surrealistic exploration video game released in Japan in 1998 for the Sony PlayStation video game console based on a dream journal that Hiroko Nishikawa, a staff member at Asmik Ace Entertainment, had been keeping for a decade. It is one of three products released about the journal (the others being a music CD, called LSD And Remixes and the journal itself, published as Lovely Sweet Dream in limited quantity). The game has earned itself a small cult following due to the generally disturbing and eccentric nature of the game and its content. Although the game's title could be considered a reference to the recreational drug with the same denomination and the gameplay a reference to its psychological effects, neither information is objectively stated anywhere in the game. Instead, different phrases are attributed to the acronym LSD, all following the standard "in L..., the S... Dream". Examples include "in Life, the Sensuous Dream" and "In Limbo, the Silent Dream".
Polybius
The Urban Legend :A government run arcade cabinet was used to collect data. Once played this game would cause seizures, memory loss and people were brainwashed. The System :Arcade This game was out for a very short trial run of one month in small arcades in Portland Oregon in 1981. Produced by the company Sinnesloschen ( A German term meaning “sense-deleting,” or “Loss of senses.”), the game gave many players nightmares and many who played it completely swore off all video games afterwards. Others complained of having blackouts and memory loss. Employees of the manufacturer, in black coats came and collected data from the machines as part of a lease agreement. After only one month, all of the machines were removed. ROM’s of this game are rumored to be in the hands of some collectors but at this time they are not generally available. Check out more info here at Polybius Theory. Game-play: There are two explainations for game-play. 1: Action/Puzzle game. Rumored to have a rotating 3D Puzzle, along with logic puzzles, and mazes resembling the playing style of Pac-Man. 2: You were flying through a tunnel and had to dodge things in your path. Lights flashing at rapid rates to heighten the effect. Said to resemble a pro-type for Atari’s “Tempest.” (Which was a shooter game. In an article about Tempest, it was said that the prototype caused motion sickness after a period of time.) The basis of the game was to get through a maze without being caught in a trap or a mine. Apparently, the further the levels went, to make the game more difficult, the background would start flashing much like a strobe light, and the spinning of the mazes.
Useful Links: Pop Fiction: a show about debunking rumors and urban legends in games. Players generally say that they have seen Bigfoot from far away, usually as a burly figure walking through the forest who would flee if the player got too close. Rarer accounts say that Bigfoot attacked the player, or that the player could get up close to him. Nevertheless, the majority of video or photo evidence that proves Bigfoot's existence are either faked or are a mod. The debate that Bigfoot exists in San Andreas is still active to this day. There are many supposed in-game references including evidence that supports that Bigfoot can be found. The whole idea of Bigfoot's existence fits nicely into the diverse world of the San Andreas countryside, especially its Flint County and Whetstone areas, with large virgin forests and "spooky" locations. The most popular reported sighting locations are near the cave on the side of Mount Chiliad, the Shady Cabin area and Back'O'Beyond . Several screenshots and videos have been posted claiming to show the creature in the game. Sometimes genuine in-game captures of unofficial modifications or edited images and videos can fool players.
I don't make threads very often and if this needs to be moved into Fast Threads then the mods can handle it. Let's get this thing rolling Previous threads: V4: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250286 V3: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1145044 V2: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1068623 V1: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1040699
