This is a little demonstration of my WIP engine and a tribute to id Software and Quake series. The video was recorded at 17 FPS, my PC couldn't do better. Low frame rate broke the physics. Youtube HD Video link : http://youtu.be/9k-N49P5N1I?hd=1

There are few secrets to be found, one of them has the Humble Indie Bundle 3 Steam key. There is also a secret level. The game isn't properly tested, but I hope there will be no problems. It demo ain't much, but I am quite happy with it. The map and animation editors are locked until someone finds the Steam key. Then you will be able to make your own maps if you want. I will write a tutorial in a few days. The core of the engine is/was the engine from the book Advanced 2D Game Development by J.S. Harbour. I will be a bit rude and rename it to MUGEe because of all the changes I made: - rewritten sound management - texture management - vector graphics - new entity management - basic collision handling and physics - 2D skeletal animation - 2D animation editor - map editor - generic joystick support - simple GUI - ... System requirements: - Windows XP, 7 - 2000 MHz processor - 128 MB RAM - 128 MB graphics card with shader model 2 support - 40 MB free disc space Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?g6un3tthm2d3dio MD5: 4B29177042C5CC0F49FA66D39497129D Please report bugs. Only one guy was willing to test it, but there should be no problems. I mean, there are some bugs left, but nothing serious. Quake in 2D? So with that you just mean a competetive 2D shooter, right? Because this doesn't really look all that much like Quake.
Quake in 2D? So with that you just mean a competetive 2D shooter, right? Because this doesn't really look all that much like Quake.
Ehh what? The video was a pretty much exact recreation of the begining of Quake 2's singleplayer campaign.
It's a 2d shooter I don't see what's there to be or not be like Quake
The point ... ... ... Your head
Coincidentally, I only just did another playthrough of Quake 2 about 2 weeks ago as well. I feel that your 2D engine shouldn't be having fps problems while recording, regardless of your PC specs - assuming your PC isn't 10 years old. I imagine you'll be looking into fixing that. What are your other goals, or was this just a practice and proof-of-concept for you?
Game seems pretty fine, I can't seem to go through any doors though. Also if you're going to call this anything Quake related, you should probably add mach speed bunnyhopping.

Looks pretty cool. Kind of reminds me of Abuse.

Isn't giving out the Humble Bundle Key bordering on warez?
Isn't giving out the Humble Bundle Key bordering on warez?
They gave me a bonus Steam key for games I already bought. As far as I know, I am giving away a gift, and not doubling my purchase.
This was a hobby I got tired of ...
Consider coming back to it in a couple of weeks - it would be a shame to forget everything you learned!
It looks great, too bad it's based off of Quake 2.
Isn't giving out the Humble Bundle Key bordering on warez?
Giving away stuff for free is warez? Wow everyone's apparently a criminal then
Giving away stuff for free is warez? Wow everyone's apparently a criminal then
I'm sure I can find one single person who has never given away something for free in his entire life. Err, maybe. Eventually.
Fixed your title. Also, I think people will extract the key in 5 minutes :v:
Really nicely done, I'd be half tempted to email Id and see what they think to it all. Also I think you should do something about the sprites on the player picking when the framerate is unlocked, as hilarious as it is seeing them run at nine billion miles an hour it shouldn't really do that. :v:
How do you use the "Enter" points? EDIT: I'm an idiot... It's "e".
Thank you guys for the kind words :)
Also, I think people will extract the key in 5 minutes :v:
Yea, I messed up. Let's hope that at least they will contact me so I can tell others to stop searching. And my PC is so old it can't even speed up even if it wanted to. I noticed this just few days ago, so I had to lock it to 60 FPS.
Yea, I messed up. Let's hope that at least they will contact me so I can tell others to stop searching.
Sent a PM. :v: Dunno if anyone else found it before me though.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Process Explorer from SysInternals/Microsoft. Great free tool.
dank.
has anyone redeemed this yet, by the way? Because I didn't and I'm pretty sure ben didn't either.
I ninja'd you all with regex and notepad++ [A-Z0-9]+\-[A-Z0-9]+\-[A-Z0-9]+ It took me about 10 seconds Next time just XOR the string with some bullshit
I ninja'd you all with regex and notepad++ [A-Z0-9]+\-[A-Z0-9]+\-[A-Z0-9]+ It took me about 10 seconds Next time just XOR the string with some bullshit
I did it in about 5 by searching for "key" but that works too, I guess.
I did it in about 5 by searching for "key" but that works too, I guess.
my method is clearly superior also this + the origin promotional code thing so much free stuff today
Bah, I never get anything for free! I was betting on it being hidden in the textures, and spent quite a while checking through them... sadly, nothing. About the game itself, it's pretty fun, very fluid. In kinda reminds me of a faster paced Facewound, which is very nice.
