This thread is dedicated to Bethesda's long lasting series related to a bunch of old papers.
Why should you play The Elder Scrolls? The titles of this series are usually big ass sandboxes with tons of content that will last a really long time, big ass modding community and good enough lore, apart from Schick.
The essential mods listed in (almost) every section are intended to be a base to prepare the game for modding or to play vanilla without issues. No one of these mods should vary gameplay from what the developer originally intended.

The first in the series, started out as an arena game, but at the last moment they decided to make an RPG instead, forming the series we all know and love. No big booty mods.

Featuring dynamically generated dungeons and a big ass map, Daggerfall is probably the best "don't pass the night outside" simulator. Nude mods included in vanilla, regular booty only.
DaggerXL is a rewrite of the original Daggerfall that adds features such as distant land and proper support outside MS-DOS.
Daggerfall Tools for Unity is an ongoing project that aims to port native Daggerfall data to Unity, no, not the Ubisoft one.

Probably the best title in the entire series. Obsolete combat, game breaking skills but good old fashioned fun. Also, good main quest and good dungeon delving experience. Also, CHIM. Extensive mod support, but not many big booty mods. No diagonal walking animation.
OpenMW, like DaggerXL, is a rewrite of the original engine that aims to add new features without drowning the game with injectors. Also, spears.
Expansions:
Tribunal - The city of Mournhold, where that old hag Almalexia lives, is being attacked by robots.
Bloodmoon - Hircine, aroused from a Twilight fanfiction, unleashes the werewolves against the population of Solstheim.
Essential mods:
Morrowind Code Patch + beta - It fixes a lot of stuff, and it's completely modular.
Morrowind Patch Project - Are you dreaming of a bugless Bethesda game? Close enough. Bug Musk Telvanni hasn't been removed though.
MGE XE + beta - Why is this essential? It enhances even vanilla Morrowind with proper panoramic resolution and custom UI scaling.

Sponsored by Latvia and Hasbro, Oblivion is the ultimate Mr. Potato Head simulator, where you can carve your favourite tuber against either chips or fries, mainly coming out from the big frying gates leading to the realm of Oblivion. Anemic main quest, but excellent side quests. The landscapes and dungeons are pretty but repetitive. Big ass modding community, with a bunch of excellent overhauls and big booty mods. No diagonal walking animation.
Expansions:
Various DLCs - Small quests and horse armor. Especially horse armor.
Knights of the Nine - Go forth with the Divines blessing and crush the itty bitty elven menace with Pelinal Whitesupremacist!
Shivering Isles - Sheogorath is looking for a champion, because reasons. Ninininininininininininini
Essential Mods:
Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial DLC Patches, Unofficial SI Patch - They complete the job Bethesda never started.
Gameplay Mods:
---
Oblivion XP + update - Changes the leveling up to a more traditional way with experience points, like Fallout without guns. OBSE required.
OR (yeah, that's right, not both)
Realistic Leveling - Want to retain the original leveling without retarded scaling? This mod is for you. OBSE required.

Latest Bethesda's TES title, Skyrim involves the Wyvernkiin slaying a bunch of Wyverns and Stormcloaks with Wyvern Shouts. Short and mediocre main quest, infinite(!!!) (shit) quests and human looking people. Splendid landscapes. Even bigger modding community than Oblivion, including big booty mods. Diagonal animations included.
Expansions:
Dawnguard - Lord Harkon, an ancient vampire, was the guardian of his wife and Serana prior to Molag Bal. He was the cause of vampires everywhere being burnt (himself included), when he placed his daughter Serana with an Elder Scroll into a tomb. Also, crossbows.
Hearthfire - TES meets the Sims. You can adopt children, build your dream house that will end up looking the same as other houses and witness moving mannequins.
Dragonborn - A challenger appears! Hey, you're not the Dragonborn, you're a big fat phony!

Skyrim Script Extender - Why is it essential? Skyrim shares Tim Preston's inflation fetish and applies it to RAM, so SKSE implemented the memory patch to counter this issue.

God damn beautiful OP.
Playing the Dragonborn DLC, I'd completely forgotten about the Thirsk Meadhall side quest. It's awesome.
I think this is my first time ever getting a post in on the first page of a new Elder Scrolls Megathread.
For whatever reason I'm never around when we roll over.
Actually on topic, I managed to snag a Collector's Edition of Oblivion off ebay that actually still has the Septim, for 10 bucks.

For some reason, that actually made me realize I've bought Oblivion a total of 5 times over the course of 8 years.
I got it for 360, PC, PS3, Steam, and with the Elder Scrolls Anthology.
I think each of those besides Steam came with a map too. :v:

Beautiful.
10/10 OP
I've started to play Skyrim once again and decided to finally put an end to the Dawnguard questline
Consider that I've yet to learn the final word of Fus-Ro-Dah. So I really need to catch up with the main storyline
Gotta say, the final quest was a huge letdown
Maybe it's because I sided with the Dawnguard, but Kindred Judgment is just about returning to Castle Volkihar with a small crowd of NPCs and kill a bunch of the same vampire enemies if you have been culling up to that point
Lord Harkon isn't especially threatening either (if he doesn't bug himself and becomes impossible to beat), nor different from the other vampire lords you've met
Really, the only true pain in the arse from Dawnaguard is the boss fight with Arch-Curate Vyrthur (that is, till I remembered I learned the shout to summon Durnehviir, who was more than happy to EAT HIM ALIVE, one bite at a time)
Thanks everyone for the feedback, keep suggesting stuff for the OP!

Sadly it's only 1280x720, but since it's pretty grainy the upscaling shouldn't be noticeable:

Also, a little extra:

Dawnguard DLC is just for vampires
the whole thing is made solely for becoming a better vampire
you go to the vampire castle and are introduced to what's-his-face and he just straight up reveals himself as a vampire lord right there and then
the game expects you to say "OMG make me one too you boney old faggot!" then party with your deathounds and abomination-bros but the whole thing just grinds to a halt if you turn round and say "Nah, you're alright mate." the game is like "well shit, better think of something, oh just let him join the dawnguard and chuck a standard assault the castle final level, oh and here is a bow that does extra damage to undead."
i couldn't care less about the vampires, i just wanted the crossbows

I've played hundreds upon hundreds of hours of daggerfall but now that I can see it in a resolution that isn't crap, I'm impressed with how detailed it is considered it was almost entirely procedurally generated.

Daggerfall be gettin some MP
So now that ESO has been out for quite some time.
Has your opinion of it changed?
Mine certainly has.
At first I doubted it was a proper Elder Scrolls game, and I very much doubted the MMO model since I really dislike MMOs.
But ESO did well, the game is actually good, the lore is good as well (Except for some minor hickups I haven't been able to find an explanation for, such as the Khajit Mane thing)
But a lot of the issues people brought up were either fake, misunderstood, or downright wrong.
Especially lore issues. (Cyrodiil not being a jungle is working as intended, Khajit still have subspecies, etc.)
My major issue with ESO is Zenimax. They've mismanaged ESO a lot.
Stupid overpriced release plus subscription, Day-One Horse DLC, taking months to fix bugs or add content, etc.
They're slow but at least they get stuff done. The game is pretty solid now, and with patch 1.6 the Justice system will be added, including killing npcs and stealing and such.
What do you think?
Have you seen any improvements?
It's still lore breaking, mediocre, and grindy... and boring.
The boring part is the worst.
Does anybody have any experience with installing redguard on win7? I don't know where to start.
It's still lore breaking, mediocre, and grindy... and boring.
The boring part is the worst.
Lore breaking...Hardly, except for the Mane thing, almost everything is explained.
And that's without nitpicking like, asking why Windhelm is different. I mean, if you compare places from Arena and Skyrim, or from Solstheim in Morrowind and Skyrim you'd see they're different too.
Mediocre...Why? The quests are good, the landscape is amazing, the exploration is wonderful, the scenery is varied, and there is a lot to do.
The books are really good as well.
As for boring, that is subjective. The only reason I ever found it boring was not even the game's fault, but once again, bad management decision. Where you end up at VR 10 or 11 and can't continue solo anymore. And then they add 2 more friggin levels.
And that might make it grindy, but once more, bad management. Imagine if the game capped you at level 50 instead. And you had a lot of quests to do after finishing it.
You know what I liked about Oblivion's story over Morrowind's or Skyrim's? It's that the player character was just a dude. He was just some random jackoff that got caught in a whole bunch of mystic babble stuff. He wasn't the Dragonborn, he wasn't the Nerevarine, none of that. He was just some dude there to help Martin be the hero Cyrodiil deserved.
There must be something special about them though, if they featured in Uriel's prophetic dream right before he conveniently had to pass through their cell.
There must be something special about them though, if they featured in Uriel's prophetic dream right before he conveniently had to pass through their cell.
Not really, it was more like seeing the future rather than a prophecy. It could have been anyone in his dream and anyone in the cell, could have been the douche across the hall from you. Seeing you in his dream is basically where it begins and ends. There isn't any "you're the one Uriel spoke of" or any more banter in the sewers about "I have forseen the things you will do." It's just "Hey, you were in my dream predicting the future."
There must be something special about them though, if they featured in Uriel's prophetic dream right before he conveniently had to pass through their cell.
Yeah, you're still a chosen one, just not chosen for the lead role.

Clearly the actions you take set you apart but the entire meaning of the post was that you start off as some asshole in jail for some random crime. Besides, doing all of that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief because there's no way a single human could get away with all of that in a single lifetime.
[editline] Jan 14 2015 [/editline]
Hell, it would be actually impossible to do some of that because even being associated with the Mythic Dawn, Daedra in any way and Dark Brotherhood would prevent you from being in half of those anyway.
