Running with rifles is a 3D warfare PC-game with solid action/stealth/tactics flavor. One soldier is controlled at a time from sky perspective by the player. You run around with the keyboard, aim and shoot with the mouse. The soldier’s authority/rank affects how many fellow soldiers controlled by the AI will follow and support him in his glorious efforts. The ultimate mission is to conquer all the bases on the map and defend the already occupied bases against the invading enemy forces.
The bullets are extremely harmful in the game, so it is more about getting quickly into a good position and firing those few well-aimed bursts, before the enemy does the exact same thing to you. Fighting along several fellow soldiers significantly increases the odds of staying alive.
Features -
* free roam world
* you can join a team of soldiers and support your superiors in an attack, defend your base near the border against invading enemies, become a team leader and lead your men into the battle, execute stealth missions in the night alone or with a handful of hardened soldiers; it’s up to you!
* terrain, buildings, trenches, walls, sandbags, trees, roads, crates, rocks, containers
* rifle shooting, grenade throwing and knife swinging soldiers
* reloading, crouching, running, walking, jumping over walls, “opening” crates with the knife — no equipment to be found in yet though
* two different assault rifles: ak47-like and g36′ish: only the sound and appearance is different, for now
* single 1km * 1km map with 10 bases
* day time changes; during the night the soldiers won’t see that far and wide, enabling better stealth opportunities
* commanding AI orders team leaders to move around in the world where needed
* AI team members follow their leader’s behavior, finding cover positions when leader crouches for ambush, engage on leader’s first fire
* killed in action, the player is simply reborn a different soldier (with skill/stats retained) in the nearest peaceful base
* new reinforcements arrive in each of the bases at times; there’s a maximum soldier capacity for each nation depending on amount of occupied bases
* radio messages about imminent threats near own bases
* a map (rather crude one)
* unlimited number of magazines with 30 bullets each, limited grenades
* cartoonish point based rendering for soldiers and various world objects
* colorized world appearance for that monotonic style
* ragdoll physics

Possible future features -
the usual polishing: bugs to be fixed, balancing, performance optimizations, AI improvements
online gaming, 2 – lots-of players; cooperative gaming ought to be the thing here
more options: crouch toggle, aim-centered movement, rate of rank increase
more details: better rocks, tree and bush types, fallen trees, variety of buildings, street lights, dust particles
AI to arrange simultaneous attacks to multiple bases
easy loading of community created maps
sounds need more processing, and more sounds
variety of soldier models
bridges, lakes and rivers, docks and piers
climbing on top of objects, accessing building roof tops by ladders
new maps with new themes
larger scale worlds
medic features, pulling wounded teammates to cover and healing them, AI friends would also do this to save player’s life
vehicles: jeeps, trucks
mortar or artillery fire
attack dogs
boats, think inflatable size
weather effects, rain, thunder and lightning, snow
more light sources: street lights, explosions
destructible/constructible stuff: sandbag walls, trenches
editable terrain: trench digging, fox holes, impact craters
occluded field of view for additional difficulty and more interesting player vs player gaming

Just saw this on RPS. I'm about to try it now.
It's a fun little game. Even more fun when you get to lead around a squad of soldiers and attack enemy bases. Hope the creator keeps going with this game because I see a lot of potential for it.
I wonder what the maximum number of soldiers there can be on a map though.
downloading this now
Ive been playing for the last 2 hours and this game is fucking awesome
I'm still downloading it but I had really really hoped for First Person.

Are you guys looking for any help in this at all?
God, this game is great in 0.1 Alpha. If development continues it could be superb!

I'm actually not a dev, but I would try contacting them at pasi.kainiemi@modulaatio.com.
I like this game and it would be really interesting to see how the pull off one huge world to take over rather than several maps.
Of course different maps would be fine too as long as they're all of good size.
The only complaint I have on the game is that the cover isn't very easy to understand . I keep shooting walls in front of me.
The ranking is kind of ridiculous as well.
Ahhh this looks amazing.
Sort of almost reminds me of cannon fodder.
Fucking amazing.
Looks good, guns sound realistic.
It's pretty great, can't wait for the online to be implemented. Oh and that feature list looks amazing too.
Ugh, I HATE top down aiming. But this looks interesting.
This game is good.
Feels like an actual war going on.
I'm guessing nothing happens when you win because we just took over the whole map with no grays spawning but it still lets me run around.
Also you get experience from killing your own guys apparently.
Has anyone tried killing with the knife?
this is hard
what are all the controls, or where are they located
because i dunno what the fuck im doing
Remember: Never ever be out on your own. You can't be some Rambo faggot and kill a squad of 12, let alone 3.
They need to do something about the lighting and the color palette because I have to strain my eyes to see.
The aiming is awkward as expected. It's also hard to keep up with teammates because they can apparently move in more than just eight directions

I have been that rambo faggot, spamming nades scores me kills and suppresses the enemy. Too bad I usually don't live from the encounter.
This needs more trenches.
And the rifles need to be bolt action.

I like automatics in these games. Or at least having a choice between different types of weapons.
Also I just realized all the graphics in this game look like GTA: Chinatown Wars.
this is pretty fun. looking forward to seeing how it progresses
This is really enjoyable, even with AI and bare basic features.
BTW, set your rank to 7 to make AI follow you instead of having to follow them.
I think the XP system needs to be revised in a future version, while keeping the rank requirements
IE:
Lowest 2 (0-1) ranks lose 10 or less XP on death, and gain 200 per kill.
Mid 2 (2-3) ranks above those lose 25 XP on death, and gain 150 per kill
Rank 4 loses 50 XP on death, gains 125 per kill, but now gains 100 per kill made by followers
Rank 5 loses 75 XP on death, gains 100 per kill, and 125 for every kill done by a follower
Rank 6 loses 100 XP (current XP loss) on death, gains 75 per kill, and 150 for kills down by followers
Rank 7 loses 150 XP on death, gains a mere 50 for a kill, but gets a special XP formula for follower's kills. (see below)
Rank 7 follower kill XP formula
For every kill done by a follower it is a base 100XP, but the 100 is multiplied like this: 100(1.x), replace X in the 1.X with how many followers the player has in this format: the first 9 followers occupy the tenths slot, the next 9 after that take up the hundredths and so on.
So if I had 25 followers and one of them got a kill I would recieve 199.7 XP (rounded to 200XP for obvious reasons) from the multiplication of "100(1.997)", just off that one kill.
This XP system would make it more forgiving for new players, while requiring skill to hold the high officer ranks. anyone agree with this idea?

I didn't find it awkward at all. You shoot at your crosshair, move with WASD.
Perhaps I'm just more adjusted to this style of game.
They should make a much larger map with bodies of water and you spawn on a carrier in which you can take landing crafts to assault beaches.
Is there any way to remap controls? My left ctrl is broken :(

you stole that from you saying it in teamspeak
If this is pre-alpha version, god knows what else will be added.
