[B]Renegade X is a tactical First and Third Person Shooter with Real Time Strategy elements, set in the Command & Conquer universe.[/B] It is a high quality award-winning free indie game being created on the Unreal Development Kit. [URL="http://www.moddb.com/mods/renegade-x"]Originally, Renegade X was an Unreal Tournament 3 mod[/URL], and the beta won [B]six awards[/B], including "#2 Best Vehicle Set" for the [I]Making Something Unreal Contest[/I], "#3 Best Upcoming Mod" for the [I]Mod of the Year Contest[/I] in 2008, and "#2 Best Multiplayer" in 2009's [I]MOTY[/I]. In 2010, Totem Arts made the decision to make Renegade X available to everyone. Since then, Renegade X's standalone version has been in development. [B]Story[/B]
The conflict between the [B]Global Defense Initiative[/B] (GDI) and the [B]Brotherhood of Nod[/B] originated in the late twentieth century, when a meteor carrying a mysterious substance struck the Tiber river in Italy. It was named [I]Tiberium[/I], which composed of valuable elements. Although Tiberium has proven to be an important source of income when refined, it is fatally toxic, and its contagious spread threatens all life on earth.
[B]GDI was formed in 1985 by the United Nations[/B] [B]as an international security force set to combat global terrorism.[/B] Conceived as a united peacekeeping military force, GDI depends on the technological sophistication of its weaponry, and the superior training and loyalties of its officers.
[B]At the same time, the Brotherhood of Nod, led by the charismatic Kane, grew to prominence[/B]. Working largely in third world countries, wherever there was discontent and unrest, there was Kane. With the promise of a New World Order and bankrolled by the illicit Tiberium research and trade that Kane made famous, Nod began to gain power. A few scattered, disaffected units grew into an army with powerful atomic weaponry, ruthless tactics, and a Tiberian fortune.
Where GDI stands for international stability and the containment of Tiberium's expansive spread, Nod seeks to overthrow the established order and build a world centred on Tiberium research.

I recall having tried version 0.35 of this, it looked fairly nice despite being so early in development.
Seems to be at 0.55 now.
God damn, I sort of stopped paying close attention to this when I couldn't play the beta properly without it glitching out.
But, this looks absolutely amazing and I'm sure it'll actually be playable now that it's a standalone release.
Looks bloody awesome.

Always wanted a sequel to Renegade, even if it isn't by the official devs. The multiplayer in that game was fucking awesome.

As I remember, they made allowed them long time ago.
IIRC, as long as they include an EA logo on boot its free to go standalone, same with APB and the Tiberian Sun mod for Renegade

I honestly can't wait for UDK version. I used to play multiplayer in original Renegade from time to time and it was fun to play.

Fuck I loved renegade. It was seriously one of the games I played the shit out when I was a kid.
Glad to see this being released soon.
I loved the concept of renegade, and the single player was pretty fucking awesome. I never really got a chance to play MP around the time of release, but having played that free Red Alert mod on the same engine, it's quite terrible by today's standards (I know judging Renegade by a mod for it isn't necessarily fair). But still awesome. I can't wait to see how this is. Also the track in the trailer is called Warfare, one of my favourite songs from the entirety of C&Cs' soundtracks.
