(All of this was originally written by darth-veger, with some edits and additions from me) Past thread: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1163154 Hitman is a stealth game series developed by the Danish company IO Interactive. The series revolves around Agent 47, an assassin-for-hire, whose flawless record places him in high demand among the wealthy and elite. The games feature a mix of orchestral and electronica musical scores (which is fucking awesome), composed by Jesper Kyd. A sixth installment was originally going to be developed by Square Enix Montreal, but development shifted over to the original developers of the series, IO interactive. On the 16th of January, IO published an open letter regarding the 6th installment, claiming that it would return to the series roots, concentrating "on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world." You can read it here - http://hitman.com/open-letter-to-hitman-fans GAMES Release: December 23 2001 Engine: Glacier (Original) The story centers around Agent 47, a bald test subject branded with a barcode on the back of his head, who is rigorously trained in methods of murder. Upon escaping from a test facility, 47 is hired by the Agency, a European contract killing organization. His mission takes him to several locations—Hong Kong, Colombia, Romania, Hungary, and the Netherlands—to assassinate wealthy and decadent criminals. This title is regarded for its extreme difficulty, often skipped by newcomers of the series. (my favorite in the series!) Release: September 30 2002 Engine: Glacier (1.2 Shader + Physic updated) After the events of Codename 47, 47 retires from the agency and moves to a church in Sicily, in hopes that he'll be able to appeal to a priest for his past actions. When the priest is kidnapped by a mafia family, 47 is forced to return to the agency to rescue the priest. In exchange for gathering all the information they can about the priest, 47 is again sent to assassinate numerous targets tasked from the Russian crime lord, (I have no idea how I spelt this right) Sergei Zavorotko. This title is far easier than Codename 47, as you're allowed a maximum of 7 saves per level (depending on what difficulty you choose). Release: 30 April 2004 Engine: Glacier (1.3 Shadows + textures shell) Intertwining between two levels in the sequel, Blood Money, 47 is shot and recollects past contracts while he's unconscious. The game is considered to be the darkest and most violent game of the series, due to the overall dark and depressing tone throughout the game's missions. Contracts is fairly easy compared to the two previous titles, depending on how you decide to play it. Release: June 21 2006 Engine: Glacier X (Complete overhaul) A crippled, burned, ex-director of the FBI contacts a journalist to write a story on 47. The game has you play as 47, throughout several contracts the director suspects 47 was involved in. This title marks 47's arrival to the United States, and differs from the original three in that several contracts are carried out in civilian areas, as opposed to the "covert ops" settings. What further differentiates itself from the previous games is that it goes for a noticeably more humorous approach, while the others go for a far more serious and darker tone. This title is often claimed to be the best in the franchise, and is extremely easy to get into, even for those who had difficulty with the original titles. Release: November 20, 2012 Engine: Glacier 2 After 47 is tasked with assassinating his past handler, he goes rogue, and starts working against the agency. Hitman 6 Release: Unknown Engine: Glacier 2 In this title, we'll follow "a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA." To read more about it, follow this link - http://hitman.com/open-letter-to-hitman-fans BOOKS Hitman: Enemy Within is the first novel in the Hitman series. It was written by William C. Dietz and released on August 28, 2007. The novel's plot is set between Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman: Blood Money and revolves around a rival murder-for-hire organization, known as Puissance Treize (French for "Power Thirteen"), attempting to destroy Agent 47's employer, the International Contract Agency (ICA). The book's tagline is: "The clone assassin has been played long enough – now it’s more than a game." [t]http://www.hybridgames.co.uk/hitman/hitman-damnation/artwork/001.jpg[/t] Official description: Since the devastating conclusion of Hitman: Blood Money, Agent 47 has been MIA. Now fans awaiting the return of the blockbuster videogame and film phenomenon can pinpoint the location of the world’s most brutal and effective killer-for-hire before he reemerges in Hitman: Absolution. When the Agency lures him back with a mission that will require every last ounce of his stealth, strength, and undercover tactics, they grossly underestimate the silent assassin’s own agenda. Because this time, Agent 47 isn’t just going to bite the hand that feeds him. He’s going tear it off and annihilate anyone who stands in his way. FILMS Loosely based off the game's story, this film was heavily critiqued and regarded as one of the worst video game films of all time. Hitman 2 Nothing is known about this sequel, aside from that Rupert Friend is to play 47.
Absolution is a terrible game There I said it
People who dislike Absolution because it isn't Bloody Money 2 act like children. Also Contracts was the best Hitman game.
I liked Absolution, but not for the same reasons I liked Blood Money or the other games.
I dislike Absolution because it has so many fucking flaws. Even on that veteran mode thingy the game is easy as shit and forces you to shoot your way through multiple scenes. And the disguise system is garbage. And this is not coming from a person who wouldn't have enjoyed another Hitman game without it being Blood Money 2.
Still haven't finished my Suit Only + Infiltrator run in Abso.. But it's too frustrating in the end. It's been a good run but now it's just systematically luring the guards one at a time either garroting/incapacitating them until it's safe enough to sneak to the exit. (I'm at a point after the Death Factory, after killing all the nuns too, where there are a lot of heavily equipped soldiers around, and I just can't bother anymore.) And I dare any one of you to try it on Purist, with just Suit Only + Infiltrator in mind. (You can do any of the other challenges as well if you like but.. I fucking dare you.) I'm running it on Normal and it's challenging enough.
People who dislike Absolution because it isn't Bloody Money 2 act like children. Hell, I barely played any of the previous games to any noticeable extent. I just dislike it because it feels clunky, the disguise system is frustrating, the instinct bullshit is a mess and most missions are boring stealth that don't involve any actual contracts.

I'm just sick of people bitching that Blood Money is the best Hitman game and that Absolution "isn't a real Hitman game" because they took a different approach to it.
http://www.joystiq.com/2014/02/13/square-enix-announces-mobile-strategy-game-hitman-go/ Don't know how to react
I really hope the next game will be much more modable
My god the japanese missions on hitman 2 suck so bad. I don't like to jump on the bandwagon, but fuck.
My god the japanese missions on hitman 2 suck so bad. I don't like to jump on the bandwagon, but fuck.
I had a lot of fun in Hitman 2, but I didn't have the patience for those missions. I think I just ran through them as fast as I could.
The japan missions were garbage, but the payoff of infiltrating a samurai castle, taking out the leader, and rescuing the girl without being noticed was just so satisfying [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] dont look at my name, youll notice im biased
My god the japanese missions on hitman 2 suck so bad. I don't like to jump on the bandwagon, but fuck.
Yea Hidden Valley was bugged, the truck would almost always run over some fool and since the AI isn't made to dodge vehicles it made the mission very hard to get Silent Assassin
In Hitman: Silent Assassin I've been stuck at that snow-castle thing for at least two months. Fuck.
Hitman 2 is really hard to go back to. The AI is just the fucking worst, if you walk past them in a slightly wrong way wearing a disguise, they'll just all randomly start shooting at you all at once or they'll at least start following you around making it impossible to actually do anything.

I'll say it out loud. I can't even beat the first mission in H2.
I started my Hitman gaming experience with Blood Money. I'll say it out loud. Anyone who played that level will know how I feel when I say "The Don has been alarmed".
If you beat hitman 2 on pro difficulty at 100% silent assassin I think you ascend to godhood
I like to think Contracts has aged very well. The AI isn't super paranoid like in Hitman 2, and it controls a lot like Blood Money. I hate Bjarkhov Bomb, though.
To be honest, I actually enjoyed Hitman Absolution. I mean yeah, it wasn't on par with old school Hitman games, but for what it was, I liked it.
I started with Hitman codename 47 as a youth, got my big bro to put in the cheat codes all the time and went around wasting everyone. Got a bit older and got Silent Assassin on xbox, had a bit of fun with cheats and all that. Skipped contracts and bought bloody money on 360, played it so damn much. Was such a solid repeatable experience. After kinda figuring out that Hitman is a stealth series I went back and played through the originals, had fun with Codename 47 and loved contracts, maybe even more then bloody money at times. But fucking Silent assassin. Christ that game was broken.

I've tried that game numerous times, and have only ever got past the Hong Kong triad hotel level (where you assassinate the leader of the triads) once, and unfortunately, that's not the save I have now. I tried it again a while ago and even running around at light speed, and strangling huge amounts of people (which is pretty much necessary) I still can't do it.
I think it is okay to hate Absolution for not being like Blood Money simply because that one was fuckin great. I can't understand how they moved from a nearly perfect Sandboxdesign to the utter linear checkpoint mess that Absolution is. Nobody asked for these changes. They really would've been better of by not changing anything major at all, but stick to those things which have been proven successful. After Bloody Money there were huge expecations for the next Hitmangame, and they managed to miss all of them. It gives me alot of hope that they saw their mistake and want to stick to more solid mechanics again. Let's hope they don't screw up this time. ps: Sniper Challenge was entertaining though :D [editline]10th August 2014[/editline]
Still easier than fuckin' Codename 47. I only enjoyed Hongkong and the Fuchs assassination. Any of the others were impossible without a massacre imo, since you couldn't even save. Parts of the last level were alright, but the boss fight was meh.
I started my Hitman gaming experience with Blood Money. I'll say it out loud. I can't even beat the first mission in H2.
Oh come on. Strangle the guard who goes for a piss, take his clothes and hide his body. Go for the sniper rifle in the garage, return to the starting hill, and shoot the Don while he's practicing his swing. Enter the house through the basement, wait for the guard in front of the Don's room to leave and grab the basement key once you're in. Afterwards you jump off the balcony and return to the basement, and then you have practically won - on Silent Assassin rank. H2 has some extremely difficult levels (on SA rank at least), but you guys make it sound unplayable.

Neutralize the milkman. When he wakes up again he will flee, so don't worry about him. Make your way into the kitchen. Find the door that leads into the inner yard. Wait until the two guys talkin move to the trees and the guard goes inside. Climb the roof, circle the Don's office, wait until he is alone, pop his head with silenced beretta, take key, unlock basement, return the same way you came. Yeah most levels are definetely doable, it still has a few wonky ones though. I loved how in the 2nd Moscow level your target was a piece of paper :D
good timing for this thread to pop up, i've been trying to speedrun the hitman series for the past week. i finally managed to beat hitman 2, blew through contracts and am slowly making my way through blood money. quite honestly i wish i could just sit down in the theater and watch tosca be fully performed.
Did they show anything about the new Hitman on Gamescon?
thread bump time! i finally decided to finish blood money, awesome game and definitely the best in the series (imo). i just finished absolution today, the story was okay but the gameplay was pretty tight. i wish there were more ways to approach the levels like in blood money but it was still a good game overall. i can't imagine where they would really go with the series at this point other than [sp]they go back to working for the agency lol.[/sp]
