Silent Storm is a classic game from my childhood. It saw it for sale on steam here and it brought back so many memories. It is a turn-based RPG set during as you will know from watching the intro that it is during World War Two. It is awesome because aside from the menagerie of firearms, knives, grenades, and so many others authentic to their nature you also get to manage characters including the one you create.
I know most of you are probably saying; this is so old why should I care, what makes it different from any other. I will tell you;
Induction, then DESTRUCTION, WHO WANTS TO DIE!?
Albeit if you will take a page from General Patton, the object of war is to make the others die. Silent Storm features a full destructive level, meaning you can blow open/off doors and even make openings in the walls if doors aren't convenient or befitting to you. Personally, I just am content with perforating bad guys. I remember way back in the day when you could actually completely destroy things so bad, you could fail the mission due to something important being completely obliterated.
Like a Boss!
You get your own base! You get more then just your own base too, you get your own armory, soldiers, medbay, and other stuff! The best part will be later in the game when you get certain, devices. I will leave it to you all to be discovered, but trust me when I say you will like it when you get that far.
The map! The map!
Of Europe, where you get to choose what missions you want to do and can even set up camp and other things. It also updates and you can sometimes revisit locations, especially after completing more of the story.
And now, screenshots

Silent storm is my favorite turn-based squad game. It's so fucking cool.
it still blows my mind how well SS's graphics have aged. plus, you know, the gameplay is absolutely perfect for a turn-based game
Silent Storm is great. Hated how slow the [sp]panzerkleins[/sp] moved though, and I didn't really like them in general.

[sp]Sadly I was never able to even beat them and always cheated my way through when I played this when I was younger.[/sp] :(
They be linin' up to get a taste of the Viper.
I wonder if they included the graphics fix in the new Steam release. I owned Silent Storm for like 2 years before I even knew it was supposed to have shadows, and it definitely made the game look a lot better.

also fuck panzerkleins, I always get a mod to remove them
I used to play the shit out of this with a scout character. Still love it.

What mod?
Awesome game, played it last time about one year ago and it was a blast, tried to win every mission using stealthy approach. Also fuck Panzerkleins it used to ruin the game in later stages.
I know. One of the neat little details about this game is as you arrange your characters inventories and add as well as remove things, watch their person as things like grenades will get moved to different parts of the belts and such.
Also I plan to do a series on this for my channel.
My favorite game of all time. Once every few years I install and replay all three games.
I remember being so sad when JA3 was cancelled. It was supposed to use the same engine, with somewhat better graphics and shit. it would've been glorious.

I really and truly don't understand the hate for the panzerkleins. They were amazingly well balanced and were really enjoyable opponents.
They made things like landmines and other explosives interesting to use. Their slow speed and limited perception made them perfect targets for luring into traps. Plus high caliber sniper rifles could take them out fairly well.
I get the feeling a lot of people played silent storm like idiots. You are a team of commandos. Stealth and misdirection are your bread and butter.
What mod?
Cookie's No-PK mod for Silent Storm and Sentinels. The mod kind of makes the game easier and I think it might introduce a bug that makes it so you can't beat the game, so you probably want to have at least one playthrough with panzerkleins if you haven't already. If you don't know how to install it, put the folder into the base folder of the game and use the custom game option before you start a new game, or try using the AddMod tool.
Also, if the graphics fix isn't included in the new release, throw this into the base folders of Silent Storm and Sentinels and it should allow the options for shadows and some other stuff. There's a graphics configurator but I'm not sure if it works for Sentinels.

I never thought that panzerkleins were bullshit and too hard or anything, I just like playing the game without the sci-fi stuff.
Could someone help me? The .dll fix doesn't work at all for me, my game either crashes or I get vertical lines all over my screen. I really want to play the game with dynamic shadows but I can't find any solutions.
I am using the Steam version of the game as of now.
Holy shit this game, I'm still a giant fan of this.
As far as I'm aware I'm the only person who actually came up with Fanfiction for this series.

Doing some googling seems to turn up this to fix the DLL fix.
Go in the folder where the game.exe is located and make it run in Windows XP SP3 Compatibility mode and give it admin rights, it wont crash after that, tested and works for the base game and Sentinels, have fun.
I already tried that, the game still crashes. If I run it on admin mode only the graphics are screwed up.
The .dll works fine for S2, doesn't work at all on S3.
This looks exactly like this game I had called "Hammer & Sickle". Only played the demo.
I should get this.
hammer in sickle is made on the same engine (but hammer and sickle does so many things poorly)
you should
[editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
the best thing is I love how you can have a mob of guys under your control or you can just have ONE. ONE GUY who gains all of the experience and becomes a battle hardened super soldier within no time
battle harden a scout and you'll pretty much be unstoppable since they can rock with long range weapons and short range

Hammer and Sickle was literally a shitty mod for the original game that got turned into a full-standalone thing.
(Personally I hated it since they gutted a lot of the cool features of the first game)

Are there any mods wich expand the campaign?
From the grave this thread cometh.
So I bought this on Steam. Is there any way to increase the original (S2) resolution to something higher than 1024x768?
I don't know. Sorry.

There is, but I don't use it because it conflicts with what I use to fix the shadows and reflections.
The Panzerkleins are bullshit because the randomly branching campaign can make you fight Panzerkleins before you have panzerkleins in the Axis campaign, which is more or less impossible on the map I was stuck with.
The only way I could kill one was save scumming with my sniper shooting through the vision slit.
[editline]16th August 2015[/editline]
There's literally a mission that has Panzerkleins for you to take in the allied campaign, but none in the Axis campaign, behind a barrier in a room obviously designed only to have Panzerkleins.

I dunno about that, there's a mission where you defend a factory from the illuminati (or whatever they're called) forces and they give you a couple of them.
This game is so good it doesn't even frustrate me when I fuck up. I should really reinstall this, 'cause I simply haven't played enough of it. Like honestly, I think I've only played for 5 hours of it. I wonder where's my disc gone, though...
I dunno about that, there's a mission where you defend a factory from the illuminati (or whatever they're called) forces and they give you a couple of them.
No, I googled it. I got stuck on a mission where you assault a factory, and there were a bunch of enemy panzerkleins in the basement.
Yeah you're supposed to have panzerkleins at that point. Not sure why you didn't get the other mission.
That mission is pretty hard even w/ panzerkleins though, I was pretty much completely out of ammo by the second half.
That one mission in the underground bunker in England (I think), you're supposed to get them there, but you don't as Axis.
