• Dragon Age Inquisition Megathread: Bioware's Last Chance Edition

Alright, I admit I'm being a little facetious with the title but there's no denying Bioware has a lot riding on this one, not the least of which is what remains of their reputation. That in mind, we haven't had a Dragon Age megathread for quite a while so with the release of Inquisition's first gameplay footage, now's as good a time as any. So, what's the story? Set after the events in 2009's Dragon Age: Origins and 2011's Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition returns to Thedas and stars a new player-controlled hero known, appropriately enough, as 'The Inquisitor.' It has been confirmed that the game will take place in eastern-Ferelden and Western-Orlais, a location not yet visited in the prior two titles. Ferelden is still recovering from the Darkspawn Blight from over 10 years prior and, thanks to the events in Dragon Age II, the Chantry is now at open war with the Mages; additionally, the Seekers of Truth as well as the Templars have broken away from Chantry rule, further adding to the chaos. Amidst this mayhem, multiple tears open up across the continent, allowing evil to pour out. These tears link the physical world to The Fade, from which all magical power and demonic entities originate. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it will be the player's task to lead an inquisition in an attempt to bring together a force strong enough to fight back and eventually close these tears, and such our story is set. So, what do we know so far? Details are a bit sketchy given the game is at least 1 year from release, but all of the facts and speculation will be listed below. - Your hero can once again be one of three classes (warrior/mage/rogue), can be male or female, and can once again be either a Human, a Dwarf, or an Elf a la Dragon Age: Origins. Like in Dragon Age II, your character will be fully voiced. - The dialogue wheel makes a return, though with the much desired addition of fully telling the player what your character is going to say rather than the relatively simple (and unreliable) paraphrase system from Dragon Age II. - Tactical combat makes a return as well, bringing with it the top-down camera from Origins, the ability to switch freely between characters, allowing you to set AI behaviors, and use pause-and-play tactics regardless of platform This also means that Dragon Age II's despised 'wave' system is no longer present, save perhaps for a couple specific encounters. - While not fully open world, players will be given a gigantic map to explore, large enough to include a 'mount system,' though what this entails is yet to be seen. While Bioware is mum on how large the game actually is, it has been said that one single area is larger than every location in Dragon Age II combined. In these open world locations, there are no loading screens, even when transitioning to explorable caves and locales. - The game is built on Frostbite 3, the game engine behind Battlefield 4, allowing for larger, more detailed, and more dynamic environments than has been seen before in the series. This also has the advantage of allowing the game to run on next-generation hardware as well as the current generation consoles. - Returning characters include Morrigan from Dragon Age: Origins, as well as Varric and Cassandra from Dragon Age II, who are confirmed to be party members. It has been hinted that Leliana will be making an appearance as well. - There is now a crafting system, allowing you to take loot and create new items for you and your party, including interchangeable armor parts that appear to function similar to Mass Effect 3's armor system. - Bioware wants to bring back the importance of moral decisions while avoiding the binary “good and evil” system that plagues many RPGs, as well as some of Bioware's own. This can range from something like your relationship with a party member to something larger-scale like the destruction of an outpost. Bioware is being careful not to discuss this too in depth for fear of ruining the story. And, though this is for Dragon Age III, this is really an all-encompassing megathread so discussion of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II is welcomed and encouraged.
qunari is a confirmed playable race isn't it? you should probably add that too.
Looks like the dialogue wheel has space for more than 6 choices like in DA2. I really hope that Bioware doesn't fuck this up like they have done for the last 3 games they have released.

Dragon Age 2 wasn't that bad. It lost a LOT of what made Dragon Age unique but the story was fun. Plus I liked all the characters. From the list of changes I've heard and seen on Game Informer (they post a new feature every few days) it looks like a solid game. Possibly better than DA:O.
I'm really happy that you can turn on a feature to show exactly what you're going to say instead of just selecting a vague option. It really annoys me when I have to cross my fingers and hope I don't say something I don't want to. I think I may have misunderstood that and it might just tell you what choice you're making when there's a consequence or something, though.
qunari is a confirmed playable race isn't it? you should probably add that too.
I hadn't heard anything about that. I'll add it to the OP once I find a source.

I sure hope this game has completely tacked on and poorly written romance sub plots and sex scenes That's exactly what I want from my videogames
What do you guys think about Dragon Age Keep? I personally like it since I won't have to go through the other games to get my saves back.
What do you guys think about Dragon Age Keep? I personally like it since I won't have to go through the other games to get my saves back.
I'm a fan of it, so long as they don't pull a ME3 with the choices. The actually keep as a mechanic for people who (like me) have lost saves is pretty great, it's also a good way to recap yourself on the choices too.
What do you guys think about Dragon Age Keep? I'm glad to see it here.
https://twitter.com/bioware/status/373901737255763968
Awesome. Side note: Anyone else have that issue where if you try to edit the OP, the OP disappears? Fucking frustrating as hell.
Sounds like it could work if it includes all the choices, though I imagine it'd take a great deal to make every choice matter.
Wow, how the hell do they want to put Qunari as an inquisitor, ESPECIALLY a female Qunari? Lorewise, according to Sten's teachings, women are never warriors. Remember how he tried to find a man in female Warden? He said that if she's a warrior, she must be a man, because in the Qun only men fight. [editline]1st September 2013[/editline] Also, what I liked in the demo gameplay is that they finally solved the problem with inability to fully understand what the phrase on the dialogue wheel will sound like.

In one of the DA2 expansions there was a Qunari elf who worked as a spy. There's also the possibility that there's Qunari who are no longer part of the Qun.
Why is Morrigan back? Are they completely ignoring Witch Hunt now? What about if you chose to kill her?
Why is Morrigan back? Are they completely ignoring Witch Hunt now? What about if you chose to kill her?
You never see her die.
Why is Morrigan back? Are they completely ignoring Witch Hunt now? What about if you chose to kill her?
Well in Witch Hunt it didn't actually show her death, it just showed the warden stabbing her and her falling into a portal.
So what is the point of that choice or even the whole of WH when they're just going to retcon all of it?
Haven't seen any Morrigan retcon so far. Pointless choice maybe, but not retcon.
So what is the point of that choice or even the whole of WH when they're just going to retcon all of it?
Stabbing Morrigan isn't the only option.
I chose to leave with Morrigan, so i'm very curious to see if she will bring that up in Inquisition.
I chose to leave with Morrigan, so i'm very curious to see if she will bring that up in Inquisition.
I also had my Warden-Commander leave with her. I wonder what he's up to. [editline]1st September 2013[/editline]
Haven't seen any Morrigan retcon so far.
I chose to leave with Morrigan, so i'm very curious to see if she will bring that up in Inquisition.
Im curious to see if theirs a difference between her having alistairs child, or her not having one, and if theirs a difference if you stab her or leave with her.
You can see the tactical view in this footage.
I still doubt the whole Grey-RPG thing they want to go for. Even Origins had plenty of a just outright evil decisions, and really all they did was make the game easier since you avoided battles and bosses choosing them.
Why is Morrigan back? Are they completely ignoring Witch Hunt now? What about if you chose to kill her?
I have a problem with it more because I fucking hate her Then again, I believe it's been said she isn't going to be a party member, maybe she ends up being the big bad evil thing. But then again, I would imagine that would entail something to do with the old god demon baby of doom that she may or may not have concieved in the original game, which would be impossible if you didn't agree to that.
Dude, when he pulled out the flaming greatsword i swear the lady filming could drown a small toddler in her pants. That said, argh its looking *really* fucking good, its just seeing how it plays in my own hands and how the story plays.
