Apologies if a thread of this was already made, I searched and found nothing beforehand.

Endless Legend is a 4X turn based strategy game set in a fantasy setting developed by Amplitude Studios.
The main purpose of the game is to dominate the planet known as Auriga, with one of the 8 races, with either diplomacy or war,
while researching new technologies, exploring the map and founding new cities along the way.
The map also has anomaly's, which are build able upon, and temples and shrines which you're able to search for goodies, like dust, gems or even side quests. There also also main quests related to your race which gives insights to the culture and lore.
There are also seasons, Summer and Winter. In the summer your empire can flourish (provided that you've handled it properly) with dust, production and farm. While in the winter, income and movement get penalties. Your unit sight range is also decreased.
Unlike other games of same or similar genre, races only have 3 or 4 units specific to their race, unless you assimilate minor factions to boost your military.
Economy

The main economy in the game is divided between Dust, Production, Food and Science.
Dust is used to purchase buildings and units. Dust income may be increased by several factors, such as building Gold Extractors on deposits around the map. Dust also hates productions, allows the refitting of units, and Broken Lords also use dust to make their units, and heals them too.
Production is used to shorten the time units take to be "built". The higher the production, the faster the unit will be made.
Food is, well, food. Some races are hindered in food production, such as Necrophages. The more farmers in your city, the faster the population grows.
Science boosts your research speed, allowing you to research weapons, city utilities or new units.
In winter, resources are decreased.
Win Conditions.
Diplomacy

Diplomacy (aside from Necrophages), is a big player in the game. Initially, every player is in the "Cold War" status, meaning that each Empire is able to attack one-another freely. Players can declare open war upon each other, this can be done by either attacking another player's units on their own territory, or declaring war in the diplomacy menu. if however, you're more a diplomatic person, then you're able to made truce's and ally with another player. Drakken are good at this. Eventually, the game can be won by diplomatic means.
You are also able to wipe out other players completely, leaving you the sole race left on Auriga. While this is harder to achieve, its a little easier with races which fair better at waging war (Cultists and Necrophages).
The other victory options are:
Score victory - achieved by having the highest number of overall points at the end of the turn clock.
Expansion Victory - Obtained if 80% of the map is claimed by a player.
Economic Victory- In a normal game 555,500 Dust has been collected by a player.
Wonder Victory - The first player to complete all of their faction's quest.
Scientific Victory - The player must discover all six technologies in the 6th era.
Supremacy Victory - Conquer all capitals on the map.
Upgrading your Army!
Initially, each army spawns with basic weapons such as axes and shields. However, in new Era's, new tier weapons and defenses are able to be equipped on your units, improving them throughout the game and keeping them viable, at the cost of increasing their production points, but this shouldn't matter if you have high production. Each weapon and armor have different stats, such as increased health over defense, and they may also provide a bonus against other units. Spears are good at slaying cavalry, while swords are good at slaying melee units. Already produced units need to be in a friendly territory in order to gain the option of upgrading.
Heroes
Endless Legend has the option to purchase heroes (after researching it). Each hero has stats and abilities which can benefit it in it's intended role, and what race they came from. Necrophage heroes are good at soaking and dealing damage, while Drakken heroes have the ability to strike at range and also heal friendly units on the field. They too can also be upgraded with higher-tier weapons and armor. Heroes also level up independently, gaining access to new skills which can benefit the empire or units its grouped with.

The Main 8 Races!
There are 8 main races (not counting Minor Factions) that the player is able to choose from. Each race has its own traits, whether the units are tough, or are cheap for a swarm effect.
Wild Walkers - Former forest dwellers who have harnessed magic to control and shape the natural world.

Hopefully that'll give you some understanding of each race.
Minor Factions!
Minor Factions are races that roam the world of Auriga. They range from Orcs to Hydras.
Minor Factions can be either attacked, bribed or you are able to fulfill their demands, all three allow them to end up in your control for assimilation. Assimilation is an important factor in this game, as they can
fill a niche in a race, such as adding ranged units that your race's units lack. Minor Races can also attack either your party and your cities if they're undefended.
so is this game like civ or what
the factions are really cool but I'm not super into turn-based 4x games
so is this game like civ or what

I've updated the OP in order to help give a better understanding.
I love this game, so far my favorite factions are the cultists and roving clans since they're the only ones I've managed to win with.
The mercenary system is pretty cool. I was playing as roving clans and everyone was at peace and nobody wanted to fight and I had an insane amount of gold so I bought a lot of very powerful units and used them to destroy the other factions since none of the other factions bothered to build militaries or upgrade the units they had
Any tips on winning? I really suck and always lose.

What works for me is starting the game off by putting all my workers into industry so I can rush out the founders statue or whatever that first building is then gradually shifting the workers into dust and science. Also don't rush to colonize other regions, do it when your cities are well off and you can defend them otherwise you're going to be losing resources.
I recommend getting quests from minor factions. A lot of the time the rewards are valuable resources. If they want you to give them resources for pacification, don't bother with that, you need them more than you need peace from them
Also, have your major cities run by heroes that have +1FIDS and influence per person. It also really helps to have them be immune to winters
I'm not sure if I'm any good at it or how good the AI is, but once I got a high-level cultist army and hero (mostly made of the lesser race of hyena-like dudes) - I've been rolling the fuck out of everyone without effort.
Does the AI just not defend that well or react strategically to attacks?
Fuck yeah, amplitude is one of my favourite new studios, all of their endless games are so damn fun
I've won with drakken, cultists and I'm currently rolling cunts as the wild walkers. Some broken lords asshole took one of my cities but because I'm hella rich I raised an army of like 30 rangers and went to town on his ass. He no longer exists. Once you figure out tile advantages and stuff like that properly it gives you a big advantage.
Endless Space is their other 4x game and while its quite different its also a lot of fun. I like how they push their lore throughout different games like Endless Space and Dungeons of the Endless. Makes it a whole lot of fun trying to figure it all out.

depends on difficulty and empire personality. I've had armies ripped apart as often as I've strolled casually through an empire

Pick cities based on location and the resource you most need. When in doubt throw up a city near the coast because a lot of research bonuses can end up making ocean tiles give you 5 of every resource which is obviously really nice. Otherwise, if you can set up a city near some anomalies do it because its a big bonus.
Also pacify a minor settlement before you colonise preferably - you get a nice pop boost straight off which helps you build stuff
I'm enjoying playing Necrophages the most, alongside the Drakken. Their Recycling affinity is great.
My problem with cultists is that they can only upgrade units in the home region so when you're out doing conquest, you have to waste a lot of turns bring them all back. Although, the conquered units are great for sending waves and waves of units at enemies. It's how I managed to beat the vaulters when they had a vastly superior military than me.
Any tips on how to keep my army competitive? I put all the effort I can into giving my units the best gear they can get, but they still get thrashed by armies a fraction of the size. Fucking stack of six necrodrones wiping the floor with my entire army and I can't do shit.
You could let the AI do the fighting for you. It fights better than I do. Also roam around killing roaming armies for XP
This game looks good. Is it worth thirty five dollars?
I liked the story and lore of Endless Space, and the aesthetic of this game really appeals to me.

In my opinion I'd say the game is worth it, though if you're really unsure you could try getting a key or holding off until a sale.

If you liked Endless Space's gameplay then you would probably like it, because it's pretty much Endless Space but in fantasy form.

It plays nothing like ES. The themes are similar, but it's much more like Civilization V than ES.
Heroes and unit customization are about the same along with a familiar UI, but it's otherwise very different.
[editline]1st February 2015[/editline]
That being said, both ES and EL are great games.
In my first run, a group of Necrophages have units with nearly a thousand hitpoints, whereas myself and the other factions are at 200-400. Anyone wanna explain how?
This OP is better than the one I made for the thread that died quickly
Anyway this game rocks
Started playing for the first time. Started off with the Broken Lords because I thought they looked pretty cool.
Absolutely loving the artstyle of the game.
There is something about the visuals of this game that makes me all happy inside, it is simply gorgeous at times in its design and presentation.
Really my only quirk is that somehow the pacing feels pretty off to me, I just end up pressing next turn a lot without much happening in between.
Amplitude is just masterful in creating smooth, slick artstyles and interface systems. Endless Space has a slick as hell UI and it seems this game continues the tradition

If you're like me and bad at strategies and turned off all the victory objectives and are at turn 477 after suffering in Endless Winter for forever; you start to mash that End Turn button pretty fast. :v:
I love this game
so is this game like civ or what

It's a lot like Civ. But better, to be honest. Better than Beyond Earth and Vanilla Civ5 anyway.
The visuals and UI are really super well done, and even though Combat takes place on a different 'map' it seamlessly transitions from Global map to the Battlefield in a clever way. It's just really good
It's a lot like if you took Fallen Enchantress (Which honestly I really like) and combined it with Civ5

I kinda think the UI for Legend is kinda jarring. I don't think it really fits against the game. You have this very boxy, transparent UI against this colorful, fantasy setting and I don't think it looks that great.
I'm not very good at this game. The minor factions seem to be very powerful compared to what you start with in the beginning.
I'm not very good at this game. The minor factions seem to be very powerful compared to what you start with in the beginning.
I focus on getting a 3rd unit to add to your first party. Depending on what faction you're playing, you may want your hero to be the brunt of your attack or hang back and heal/attack units from afar.
This lady attacks me and say that I'M violent? I wasn't even on her turf or anything, what a jerk.
Maybe you were too aggressive by destroying minor villages?
No, I was just in neutral territory converting villages. Unless that counts as an act of hostility. She initiated an attack on one of my minor villages, so I attacked back.
Also, cultists look fuckin sick.
Yeah the cultists have probably my favourite design.
I wish there was a way to use their custom design without having to use their "racial ability". (Which is only one city).
