Woops, I locked it. :v:

My statement stands though
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
Cockatrice has been taken down.
Rancor is definitely a very strong card, it's hard to justify not using at least a couple of them in most standard decks with a chunk of green in them.
[editline]28th February 2013[/editline]
Oh wow, that was quick. I only just got into Cockatrice, and now it's been murdered? That hurts.
Sooo, I've started playing this, at last. Known about it for ages, but I never had anyone to play with, so I didn't feel like spending money on this. But suddenly a lot of people around me became interested, so I decided to give myself kickstart by buying the deckbuilder toolkit and a couple of booster packs.
The first booster pack I opened contained the Sublime Archangel.

Score. This thing is worth 60 pln / ~19 bucks if I felt like selling it, but nononono, it's staying with me. Running a pretty good all white deck right now. Love my angels.
Cockatrice isn't down.
Well, the original server is, but there are multiple servers up that work just as well. I hate to say this, but look at the MagicTCG subreddit, there's a few threads on there about it.
Coincidentally I was in that very subreddit this morning, and I found a server to play on which is nice.
Although the damn thing just crashed in the middle of my game.
MTG DOTP 2014 announced yeah!!!
Hey, maybe they'll finally make it so it follows the rules of magic. You know, like how creatures don't tap after you block.
Just got into this after Pax. Got like 4 starter decks at Pax, then a 1000 card box. Then about 12 boosters, a duel pack. Just went out and got 8 gatecrashe boosters 2 days ago and a gatecrash fat pack yesterday. I have a problem. Loving it though.
[editline]29th March 2013[/editline]
Managed to get this motherfucker in a booster too last night.

Have you guys seen the budget modern decks on reddit?
I'm going to try out the BU Zombie Hunt in a few days when my friends come back from break.

wasnt that an April Fool's Joke?
Yeah I don't believe that's not a joke. It's too silly. :v:

Yep, I got her. Ohmygodwhatthefuckhow, I still do not know.
Pairing her with:

...is pretty much a massive Fuck You to the opponent. Pretty much the only thing I can think of to get rid of Avacyn in a setup like that, would be to clone her (Legendary rule). I'm quite positive that there are also other stuff from older mechanics that can bypass the indestructibility and hexproof, but I can't think of much now. Poison counters?
What is Facepunch's opinion on EDH/Commander?
Personally, I don't like it, but I find that a lot of the people play it over vintage and standard. EDH is basically the kind of gameplay that made me hate YuGiOh. The whole "omg this is powerful lol" gameplay.

I haven't played it but I've always thought of it as an interesting idea because it makes spamming overpowered combos and overly optimized decks less viable
Actually you'll find that it's the opposite of that. People will build decks around very specific cards and combos. Oftentimes those combos involve their generals.
And it's not so much "omg this is powerful lol" as: "omg i never get to play this card because it costs too much mana or it doesn't automatically win me the game".
Lots of people play it far more casually than you'd think though. I have six decks and of those only half of them are really all that competitive. The thing about my EDH decks though, is they're almost always constant works in progress. I don't have a few thousand dollars to spare for each deck so I don't pimp the fuck out of them. (Admittedly though, I'm in the process of foiling out my Mikaeus, the Unhallowed deck and it's basically exactly where I want it to be at the moment as far as composition)

That having been said, I bought two AVR boosters today and one of them had a Cavern of Souls in it.
One of the employees at the game store I go to is really lucky for me. Of the last like ten packs he's picked for me, one had a Liliana, one had a Snapcaster, and one had that Cavern.

I absolutely love commander. I find it to be much more enjoyable because theme decks and such are much more prevalent and viable. It just makes for a more laid back environment. The multiplayer aspect also always durdle decks to last around a lot longer and produce interesting results.
It's just so much fun.
And if you hate the "over-powered" decks, you can always play pauper edh.
[editline]13th April 2013[/editline]
Anyways, last night, I won a match against an Esper Blood Artist/Token deck using a penta-color gates deck that i threw together.
40 Guildgates
4 Gateway Shade
4 Hold the Gate
4 Crackling Perimeter
4 Gatecreeper Vine
4 Way of the Thief
It was beautiful.
Pauper decks can still hold a lot of power. I made a Glaze Fiend deck once just completely filled to the brim with cheap artifacts and it ate many faces.
I have a group of friends at college that mostly play EDH. Their games tend to go on for hours because of constant field-wiping combos and 20 minute turns. I can't stand it.
Also, this has to be my favorite card of all.

Everything about it is just awesome.
I'm going to a booster draft in Friday for the first time in...years. Any advice?

He's one of my favourite commanders, swung for 400 trample damage with him the other day against my friend. He would have survived it but commander damage killed him (trostani commander decks are fucking ridiculously good at lifegain my god)
I also run these commanders:

Zirilan is great fun and jor is amazing with the right hand.
These are my commanders which I have the completed decks for:

Matches that last forever because of locking down the board.

Reanimating fun.
Commanders I'm currently building decks for:

For tons of chaos.

To drop big creatures and massive bombs in a hurry.
Bought 2 2013 boosters, got her.

My first planeswalker!
That's a pretty good card!

Went to my first draft yesterday. Only managed to win one match with a Boros deck that was splashing black, but I had a great time there. I think draft could easily be one of my most favorite formats once I start to get the hang of it.
I'm going to a booster draft in Friday for the first time in...years. Any advice?
Keep track of how many creatures you pick. I would say that 13 is bare minimum. It is easy to at first get a bit lost and pick random spells that won't actually help that much in the game. My thumb rule is about 15 creatures and a handful of removals. If you draft Return to Ravnica/Gatecrash, some mana fix is always nice.
In a draft it is widely accepted to have 17 lands and 23 other cards when you make the actual deck (not saying you couldn't work with other land/card ratios of course).
All spoilers for DGM is out!
