Oriental Empires is a turn based 4X style civilization-building game set in ancient China. It will feature both single player campaigns as well as a multiplayer mode. Oriental Empires covers the period from earliest recorded history, until the widespread adoption of firearms (roughly 1500 BC to 1500 AD) and aims to realistically depict the world of ancient China, with a focus on the unique aspects of that civilization. This extremely deep strategy game includes both an historic scenario on a realistic period map of China, and skirmish-style scenarios on random or user generated maps.
Not much gameplay out but it looks pretty great.
Although as you said there isn't much gameplay, this really has captured my interests.
I've been looking for a strategy game focused on China, and the surrounding areas in general for a long time. As a matter of fact, I've been looking for really any quality game set in the general area. This game has been announced for a while too, dunno' how it slipped under my radar.
Literally only way I could be more hyped was if the game also extended into the early 20th century (ala fall of the samurai-esque expansion anyone?), but I think that would be asking a bit much considering the game already spans 3000 years.

China and Persia really need more games.

I think that time period really deserves its own game. The wars and political tensions associated with the fall of the Qing dynasty, the instability and warlordism in the young Chinese republic, and imperialism in Mongolia and Manchuria would be awesome material to adapt into a strategy game. On top of that, gameplay mechanics showing the uniqueness of battle in that region and time (mass open warfare fought for rail hubs on the coast versus small-unit fighting in the interior areas) and reflecting the period's political complexity would be nice too.
