Unreal Software Megathread - Waiting for Stranded 3 since 1822
3 replies, posted
This is a thread for discussing all games by Unreal Software: http://www.unrealsoftware.de/. The main focus is on Counter-Strike 2D and Stranded 2, but their other projects are also at home here.
The community is active, but much smaller than it was a few years ago. This thread could be considered a part of an attempt to bring more attention into it. Unreal Software's games are graphically simple, with fun in gameplay and modding (see below) as their focus.
By far, the greatest part of Unreal Software's games is the modding. They are build with community creations in mind, and everyone can learn how to modify them in a matter of minutes. As such, please do share your creations. CS2D's section of the forums alone has over 6000 community-created files avaliable for download!
As a demonstration of the modding aspect in CS2D, see this test my brother created a long time ago: Without scripting and using only the editor's triggers, a cannon with reloading time, aiming, smoke and fire effects, sounds, and firing animations.

and here, as an example of modding in Stranded 2, a screenshot from a mod that takes Stranded 2 from tropical islands to Mars:

All of these games use LUA script as a base for modding (with the exception of Stranded 3, in development since forever).
I know there is already a thread for Stranded 2 down there, but it has been long inactive and this one spans over many more titles.
I remember playing CS2D and modding it a little some years ago. Isn't Unreal SW just a one man op?

Yep, it's all run by Peter Schauß. Art, programming, and website.

The larger part of the scripting guide for Stranded 2 was never translated from German, as you can see in the references section here.
I don't know if a common translator could be able to properly translate these texts, as they are related to coding and may contain a lot of jargon (or not, i can't read them). For the same reason, translator websites don't help. Probably not getting a positive reply, but would anyone here be a german-speaking programmer with a reasonable amount of free time?
(P.S. whole untranslated part, not just the examples)
I tried posting about this issue in the Unreal Software forums, but received no reply. The user who translated the first parts has been inactive for a long time.
Tried updating an old Stranded I skin, just for fun and practice.
I took texture patterns from the pirate jacket in Stranded 2 and used it to replace the soldier's flat colours. Also added stranded 2-ish eyes (source is the native model) and some other minor details like a belt buckle.
This is the original 2003 file:

I doubt anyone will go back to Stranded I, but you can get this texture here if you want it.
