Obsidian Conflict is a cooperative multiplayer modification set in the Half-Life 2 universe.
It features a large amount of new gameplay features on all-new maps specially designed for the mod with focus on cooperative gameplay, as well as over hundred user-made maps following the same formula.
In addition to that, You're able to play through vanilla Half-Life 2 all the way up to Episode 2, as well as experimental support for cooperative Half-Life: Source play.
Key features:
- All Source engine Half-Life series games playable in co-op online (Half-Life: Source, Half-Life 2, Lost Coast, Episodes 1 & 2)
- A large set of included custom maps, some in the form of classic combat & teamwork puzzles and others offering extraordinary new gameplay experiences such as cooperative farming and fishing
- New weapons, including dual Uzis, Medkit, Sniper Rifle, the Alyxgun, the Tau Cannon, deployable Manhacks, as well as support for scripted weapons allowing use of weapons from Counterstrike and Day of Defeat Source
- New NPCs, including many from the original half-life such as a fully-functional ichthyosaur, as well as a working mortarsynth from HL2
- Special merchant NPC and related entities, offering gameplay where players can spend points from their score to purchase weapons and map-specific objects
- Many co-op related features, such as a server-side lives system, hud waypoints, player locator, attention & medic calls, and map objectives, as well as players' inventory carrying over between level transitions
- Great support for community mappers, including features like the mapadd system to easily edit existing maps without having to recompile them, as well as tutorials and prefab examples for all of OC's new entities and features
- Support for custom playermodels and custom colorizations on weapons and hud elements
Misc info about doing the mountfix thanks to Maestro Fenix:
Indeed, it was made for these people who wanted an "one-click" solution to the problem. You can follow a written guide here: http://obsidianconflict.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5106
(it also tells how to make a dedicate server now with SteamPipe).
BTW, remember that if you don't have installed the mod, you can go and take directly the installer, as it has embedded the mountfix (it should have the last version of the bat as we had to update it several times. In case you have problems, run the standalone mountfix bat, that one is directly the most up to date version just in case).
There's more info about how it works both at the news post in the forums ( http://obsidianconflict.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5158 ) and at the GitHub page of JFM ( https://github.com/jfmherokiller/steamdirectoryfinder ).
Note: This mod has just been fixed after being bricked by a old gamebreaking update for source.
So there isn't that many players on the servers at the moment, but hopefully that will change.
Ah, I'd love to see this get popular again; Obsidian conflict can be really fun with a group.
Shame there's few servers, I think I still run the only US one.
Im more suprised people still remember this.
oc_paysan gather when?
Oh man, I haven't played Obsidian Conflict in a long time, I think last time I played it was around 2014, there were still some people playing it once in a while
I too long for this game to become populated again. Those were the days.
The mountfix doesn't work for me. It just...doesn't do anything, OC still doesn't mount anything. Sad.

Well shit, it seems that the unofficial mountfix might be broken, I might ask JFM about it. I thought it was working until I checked OC and only the custom maps were showing up. I guess the best we can hope for is a fixed version of the hotfix, either official or unofficial.

It just extracts the VPK content into it's appropriate folders and makes symlinks, it's needed for any EP1/2 content but base OC works just fine. You can do the extraction manually.

is your steam folder on another drive by any chance?
Obsidian Conflict is literally my favorite mod of all time. Downloading it ASAP
I loved Obsidian Conflict, it's quite sad it basically dead.
From what I gathered the reason it's been so inactive is because the main guy behind programming left and now it's just a skeleton crew trying to keep the game unbroken.
[editline]9th November 2015[/editline]
Synergy is still semi-active player-wise, but I've never actually played through the full Half-life campaign because everyone will get caught on a driving section and give up.

Starting from the beginning, most players on a server will get past the airboat section, finish ravenholm, and then quit sometime around getting the buggy.
The next big dropoff is at the crane, and almost nobody is left from the beginning once/if you get to Nova Prospekt.
Nobody makes it past Nova Prospekt into City 17 again, pretty much ever.

me and a friend spent literally like 2 hours fucking around with the crane

Yup, it's one of the best parts of Coop HL2. But a ton of people always leave because nobody can properly beat the level when they're having that much fun.
we should set up a farm server, i'd love to farm with someone
Oh is this thing still alive?
I've made a steam group so we could possibly have some events for playing OC together, but right now the group is a bit bare bones at the moment, but I'm thinking about doing something this Friday/Saturday around about 6 or 7 PST hopefully. Also I'm in need of people who are interested in becoming mods and making events for the group on different time zones so that everybody gets a chance to play. Just PM me on Facepunch saying what's your time zone, what country you live in, and your steam community username and I'll mod you on the group.
Anyways here's the link to the group:

Actually we're dead because we are fed up of Valve breaking everything, life caught on us making all the team busy, and everybody are looking into other engines.
A shame, since back at 2013 it was ready to launch at Steam...until Steampipe broke it. It takes forever to port and rewrite the code to Source 2013.
The unofficial OC mountfix is just a simplified method for people to do the vpk extraction and symlinking right? Just making sure since im a paranoid bastard, and if its just that I could do the process myself

Kinda sucks how one fucking update fucked everything over. I mean going up against zombie master, Obsidian Conflict was one of my favorite HL2 coop mods, and it's a damn shame considering all the effort that was put into it that it had to be killed like this.

Fun fact: this process (doesn't matter what you choose to do, manually or with the bat) also fixes errors on these mods (usually Source 2006-2007 mods) which mounts games but after the Steampipe update couldn't.

Our hearts hurts, both at the terminal stage that is the mod (and lets be honest, all the Source mods), and how Valve turned their back on ours the modders.
While the SteamPipe update broke the mount system, it wasn't the only thing it broke. The mod is now unstable and it may crash on any moment for any reason, and the spectator mode is broken (the screen of the dead player will stuck between the red dead screen and the spectator overlay, being unable to move the camera. This sucks especially on these maps which have lives).
I've recently re-discovered this mod with some friends, it's great, but i'm slowly running out of maps to complete. Do you guys have any custom maps that are great? Mansion was one of our favorites because everyone was just running around searching for clues.
*self promotion* Why don't you try two of my maps, Nerv ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:nerv-a ) and SnowStorm ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:snowstorm )?
Vicarious Traumatization ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:vicarious-traumatization ) is "okish", yet it was "rushed" and sadly the 2nd part will never come as is not fully finished.
Nacht Der Untoten ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:oc-nacht-der-untoten ) somehow got broken after SteamPipe, and V2 was cancelled.
Strike ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:strike ) is only fun if all the players have less of 100 ping due the hitboxes being broken as well
Siege ( http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:siege-oc-remix), which is an edit of cs_siege_pcs, well, is "okish" too I guess.
Good custom maps that aren't mine are:
-Trainride: http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:trainride (2nd part will probably never come neither).
-Underground Horror: http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:underground-horror (the color correction will rape your eyes, but is a good map).
-OutHouse: http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:outhouse
-Puzzler: http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:puzzler (yes, is the same map of Gmod, ported to OC).
-Unsuspected: http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:unsuspected
-Factory : http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:moe-glados-factory-oc-map-remix (An edit of nt_ghost_ctg with objectives, may not be liked by Anime haters, V2 "may" come out this year).
-The mapadd of de_aztec http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:de-aztec-mapadd
-Swampthinghttp://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:swampthing
-Blame! http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:blame
-Burnout http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:burnout (which I'm not fully sure if the MapDB mirror is the last version, the MelonPan Official server probably has the latest one).
-Operation R-Day http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:operation-r-day
-Antlion Attack http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:antlion-attack (the closest to a Starship Troopers themed map we had, until Starship Troopers was released with 1.35).
-SSO http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:sso (which again, IDK who has the latest version) is a really good map. Don't get fooled by the full bright, dull map decoration that all the maps done by Masa0x makes, their maps have excelent gameplay, and this map is the king.
-Breenoffice http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/map:breenoffice this is a classic.
http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/ OC map database. THIS LINK SHOULD BE ADDED AT THE MAIN POST
Remember that there are some maps that doesn't appear at the MapDB as they are exclusive (almost all on the japanese and russian servers, like total conversions of SP mods).
I believe there was a short lived revival on FP a few months ago. Awesome, this was a great mod!
Also is it just me, or are the Japanese players really bad at this? :v:
One time I played on a JPN populated server and everyone just spammed voice commands and died to the most basic enemies.
So excited to see this mod back. The breaking of this and SMOD were two huge blows, seeing as i thought both mods were permanently dead.

Ok, I've updated the OP with the link and also some important information about the group event that's coming up this weekend.
I forgot to say that since OC is still in Source 2007, is still vulnerable to that exploit related to soundsprays (or whatever it was called) https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/3jja73/source_2013_mp_base_file_upload_and_execution/ . So put the following commands:
Client (put them in Autoexec.cfg):
cl_allowdownload 0
cl_downloadfilter none
cl_customsounds 0
cl_playerspraydisable 1
Server.cfg (SERVERS MUST PUT THIS, AS THEY CAN BE INFECTED TOO)
sv_allowdownload 0
sv_allowupload 0
Server admins, if you are fully sure you aren't a carrier, you can enable downloads on the server, so people can download stuff.
For the players, I can guarantee that both the Melonpan Official server and the XenoRaiden server are both 100% free of any virus, so if you play there, there's no risk to download a virus.
What a shitty exploit :/
I had turn off my antivirus so that mountfix could run.
I had turn off my antivirus so that mountfix could run.
What antivirus you run? If is Avast (due that emulation feature) leave it running until it closes 30secs later, then run it again. This is the first time someone tell us this.
Kaspersky Internet Security,
when mountfix searched for install dir's it couldn't find them
and the on-the-fly scanner from my anti-virus just made both by hard drives go into full load until I disabled the scanner.
