Demo available here: https://www.mediafire.com/?iafaypaob376rhm Jack the Reaper is a 2D platformer in the style of Kirby and inspired specifically by Kirby 64. When you defeat certain enemies they will drop their souls allowing you gain extra abilities, as you progress through the game you will unlock the ability to have multiple souls at a time and later the ability to combine souls to improve or alter their functions. You play as Jack, the Grim Reaper, who is tasked with leading the souls of the dead to the afterlife, which in this world is located on the moon. Mysteriously the moon has fallen from the sky and crashed into Earth and the souls of the dead have returned to the world of the living, and a shadowy figure has stolen Jack's powers. You must now put those souls to rest, recover your powers, and discover who the mysterious villain is. The game is designed to look and sound like a SNES game, but without the limitations of on-screen enemies or items, or limitations on level size. It also features a unique art style rather than being the kind of shit that thinks it doesn't need a style because it's "retro". It has some pretty cool mechanics such as a stationary dodge for a second of invincibility, a finger gun to shoot projectiles, boomerangs which come back to you if they don't hit anything, fart gas that attacks through walls, a shield to protect your back, and Sanic shoes to go fast. Plus others I've only seen in the trailers. You can also catch scarecrow hats on your head and if you finish a level wearing one you get bonus money, the developer is also planning on having the hat change depending on the souls you currently have. Though I haven't combined souls in the demo yet. You can see the trailers in the following links in glorious 480p, though I won't embed them as they aren't great. He's an artist who makes platformers, not a video producer. Been playing it for a bit, pretty cool.
A planet with eyes on it? HELLSTAR REMINA
Curious to see how it's changed- got shown the full build including the final boss a year or so ago as well as some of the minigames in it and was impressed. Level design could use some work but I'm interested.
This game is amazing, holy shit. I love the art style and music, and the gameplay's rock solid. Blows my mind he's keeping this free too
