It is compatible for the Xbox 360 and is rated M in the USA and 18 in the UK. Its platforms include the Xbox 360 console and the PC, and has sold over 3 million copies since its release on November 7, 2006. As of E3 2007, Gears of War has been ported to PC, as one of many 'Games for Windows'. The PC edition has new features, and five new single player chapters. For further information please regard the specific article, Gears of War (PC).

In Gears of War 2, the COG continues its fight against the Locust horde, who are attempting to sink all of the cities on the planet Sera. Sergeant Marcus Fenix leads Delta Squad into the depths of the planet to try to stop the Locust during the assault upon Locust territory. The player controls Fenix in the main mission campaign, with the ability to play cooperatively with a second player controlling Fenix's best friend and fellow Squad member Dominic "Dom" Santiago. The game includes several existing and new multiplayer modes including five-on-five battles between human and Locust forces, and a "Horde" mode that challenges up to five players against waves of Locust forces with ever-increasing strength. New weapons and gameplay mechanics such as "chainsaw duels" and the ability to use downed foes as "meatshields" were added to the game.

Gears of War 3 takes place two years after Jacinto, humanity's last stronghold, is destroyed in an effort to completely eradicate the Locust Horde. The Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) remnants relocate to Vectes, a secluded island, in order to rebuild their civilization. The COG then disbands after Chairman Prescott mysteriously disappears and seemingly abandons his forces. A new foe, the Lambent, are threatening humanity's dwindling numbers. As the Lambent begin to invade Vectes, Marcus Fenix and his comrades retreat to the CNV Sovereign, a helicopter carrier, and take refuge at sea.

The game's story takes place during flashbacks recalled by Baird and his team during a hearing at a COG military tribunal. Each level is a recollection by a different member of the team. Lieutenant and mechanical genius Damon Baird, former Thrashball player Augustus Cole, Onyx Guard cadet Sofia Hendrick and former UIR soldier Garron Paduk. The reason for the hearing is Baird's unauthorized use of a lightmass missile and subsequent death penalty. Upon hearing Baird's testimony it flashes back to Kilo Squad during the early time of emergence day the locust have seized control of many human areas and seek to take over Sera.

Experience the original Gears of War rebuilt from the ground up in 1080p, including 60FPS competitive multiplayer with 19 maps and six game modes, and five campaign chapters never released on console. This is the first Gears at its best -- a bundle for veterans of the series and newcomers alike.

Gears of War 4 is the fifth game in the Gears of War franchise. Set 25 years after Gears of War 3, humanity is slowly rebuilding and repopulating, and planet Sera’s weather is taking a violent turn due to the Imulsion countermeasure. But when a new, Locust-like enemy, the Swarm, starts kidnapping entire human colonies, JD Fenix and his two friends, Kait Diaz and Del Walker, have to step in to save their loved ones.
Media : Official Website : https://gearsofwar.com/en-gb Looking for People to play with? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tKrjFF8.png[/img_thumb] https://discord.gg/7PYwsDh
Is it worth playing GoW 4 if I've never played the other games? Is the story that important?
Is it worth playing GoW 4 if I've never played the other games? Is the story that important?
Aside from the refences to the old characters. You should beable to pick up the game and play it as a whole new game since its a different story.
Is it worth playing GoW 4 if I've never played the other games? Is the story that important?
The game gives you some background info on the series in the tutorial/prologue.
I got copy from nvidia, and when i try to preload windows store app crashes :poot:
Is it worth playing GoW 4 if I've never played the other games? Is the story that important?
It's not too important, think of Gears 4 as The Force Awakens of Gears of War. It's a soft reboot.
I got copy from nvidia, and when i try to preload windows store app crashes :poot:
It took me about 10 tries to preload the game, windows store is still a bit fucked.
Dat scene where Hoffman(?) gives that amazing speech and you see a crap load of cogs just mobilizing before you see yourself getting into your rig. what was her name again? Daisy? It's been so long since I touched a gears game..
Watching the prologue gameplay got me hyped up enough to pre-order this. Gears 3 was so much fun, and it looks like they've done a stellar job at refining the multiplayer further in this iteration. I just worry I can finish preloading before release; downloading stuff through the windows store seems to take an absurd amount of time, not counting any issues that might cause you to restart...
If anyone is interested, I have codes for the first four games for 360/One that I don't need. PM me if you want one (it's free!) [editline]10 october 2016[/editline] GoW 1 and 3 are gone
Gears of war was my fucking childhood. I remember I had to have been 8 years old when I had Dom breaking me out of prison and me kicking Locust ass. Gears 4 is no different and it is an awesome game, I would definitely buy it if you haven't already.
How's horde in 4? Better than 3?
Hordes okay. Multiplayer is best it's ever been, and I think the campaign isn't as bad as people let on. They stack on the cheese a bit too much though. Also just hit Onyx 2 in escalation. I've played every gears religiously, I want friends to play with guys play w me
I'm looking forward to getting this, but frankly just for the campaign and horde mode. I always wanted to like Gears multuiplayer, but I never got behind the way it ended up being "Roll+Shotgun: The Video Game". I always hoped they'd try and fix that about it and make the multiplayer into a proper slow-paced cover shooter, but I know they never will because that's not the multiplayer people came to like.
The movement and game plays more complicated than just rolling and getting gnashty though. It's got a good bit of strategy involved, power weapon and map control are still super important. Crossing and rifling for your teammates is huge on pushes. But hey, I'm just a big nerd. The horde is defientely enjoyable though.
I'll definitely be up to play some gearsuhwar 4 once the game comes out for the rest of us standard edition people, none of my mates are getting the game because of the windows 10 conspiracy. Also a bit disappointed in the COG MP character roster, [sp]not a single carmine, come on[/sp] I'm really hoping one of the DLCs is just an ultimate edition character pack, those character models looked great.
Oh if you compare it to 3 Hordes relatively similar, there's just these weird class abilities I don't entirely understand yet. Haven't played enough
Also a bit disappointed in the COG MP character roster, [sp]not a single carmine, come on[/sp]
Wait wait wait, FUCKING WHAT. God damn that actually genuinely 100% sucks... Benjamin Carmine's my favorite ;~;
They'll add them don't worry. They're doing monthly content additions so I'm sure they'll throw in skin and character packs don't you worry my love
They'll add them don't worry. I'm glad they got the classic Gears 1 & 2 Hoffman in the game though, can't believe he wasn't in 3 even though they made the art for his Gears 3 character. Honestly I never really cared for how the COG's armor looked past Gears 1 and 2 (Though it made sense for the characters in the Gears 3 timeline).
Anyone with early access on PC have any opinions on how it runs? I'm waiting to see if it's actually a half decent PC port before i buy it
Ports amazing, runs like butter on Ultra for me. I've got a 970 and i7 6700k so like mid-high rig
Anyone with early access on PC have any opinions on how it runs? I'm waiting to see if it's actually a half decent PC port before i buy it
I have a laptop that can run the game pretty decently on medium/default settings at 1080p. Pretty impressed with how well it runs. I wasn't sure it would until I saw reports about the game running well on 960M equipped laptops and that card is that much faster than my 860M. I have a Lenovo Y50-70 with an i7 4720HQ, 12gb DDR3, 480GB SSD, and GTX 860M 2gb GDDR5 Have yet to try it on my desktop with an i3 6100/R9 380X
So it runs better than UE? Cause I've had a 9-year hard on for the original Gears of War, and I was still a little disappointed with UE's pc launch. Honestly I'd argue that UE's pc launch was worse than arkham knight.
UE fixed up, it runs well now. What UE is now is what Gears 4 is. Actually the port has been generally received extremely well I haven't seen many gripes if at all

Good to hear that even an 860M is running alright at medium settings, looks like i'm mostly in the clear

My laptop's GPU is slightly below a 750ti which is the minimum requirement for the game. I have a Phenom II x4 955/GTX 670 build I can try the game on.

I was disappointed after i bought DOOM and found that even on the lowest of the low it was dipping to 30fps in fights - it made it unplayable until i upgrade

Before I got my 380X I was able to play Doom somewhat okay on a 670 paired with an i3 6100. I think I played on mostly medium with some low settings at 1080p.
