DEADBOLT is the second game from the Risk Of Rain developers, Hopoo games, it released about a day ago.
DEADBOLT is an extremely challenging stealth-action hybrid that allows you to take control of the reaper to quell the recent undead uprising. Play and complete missions given to you by the mysterious fireplace as you become the avatar of death. While the reaper has an impressive arsenal and skillset to kill the undead, he has one flaw - he dies in one shot... leaving you with no room for error.
Key Features:
• Complete over 25 extremely challenging missions
• Unlock and obtain over 30 weapons, ranging from a reaper's scythe to an automatic grenade launcher
• Fight over 35 enemy types, from zombies to vampires to bosses and more
• Choose your playstyle: quiet assassin, loud one-man army, or anything in between
• Gib them all! DEADBOLT's dynamic gore system guarantees that all evisceration leads to satisfaction
• Choose your own way to complete a mission - no mission has to be completed in one way
• Accomplish a variety of objectives, like assassinating gang leaders and investigating mysteries
• Multi-genre soundtrack created by the talented Chris Christodoulou of the Risk of Rain OST
demo for those not sure on whether they want to buy or not.
ps the full game is quite excellent.
Reminds me of Trilby, really like the art style.
Have to check this out.
Its great, but very, very tough.
For those who have played it [sp]Stuck on the second last 1000 Royals Mission where you need to stop the totems turning folks into Ash - Can never reach the one on the roof in time[/sp]

I don't know what load out you have, but this is the route I took:
[sp]Knock on the door, quickly murder the two skeletons in the front with whatever gun you may have on hand, burn the totem, shoot the two vampires on the ceiling, and ready your melee weapon (preferably a hammer) for the two female vampires that will come after. Grab the tommy gun on the right side of the dance floor, and quickly make your way to the second floor through the vents. Grab the 10mm pistol and deal with any regular vampires that may come your way (there should only be one female and male one), and unload the tommy gun into the hammer-swinging skeleton, and the two bartender dudes. Be sure to destroy the bottles that revive the bartenders, and grab one of their combat shotguns. Quickly go upstairs, and take out the two skeletons with the combat shotgun, destroy the second totem. Go back downstairs, take care of any immediate threats, and use the vents to move to the bottom left corner of the map, drop the hammer-swinging skeleton with the combat shotgun, and burn the final totem.[/sp]
It's basically Gunpoint + Hotline Miami, and Hopoo made it, and he's a p cool guy.
Yeah it does look a lot like Gunpoint, huh. Just, unfortunately, without the awesome jumping mechanic.
Still, Gunpoint is one of my favorite stealth games of all time. And my favorite stealth indie game, period. I'll deffo pick this up when I get some cash infusion.

Although it looks like this is one of those games that are priced the same in euros as it is in dollars. Grr.
This game is pretty amazing so far, the style and music alone convinced me to buy the game on the spot.

Thought I'd have to do something like that, means losing some of my souls that I've been saving for the Scythe to buy a gun that isn't silenced :(
I saved up for the scythe as my first purchase through grit, since it doesn't seem like you get souls from replaying missions. It's a solid weapon, one-shots the lesser enemies and has a nice range, but you can't throw it and you really gotta get up close and personal with them. This game however really does favor guns, however, to the point where it can be impossible to beat a level without them. So my advice is, use the scythe to get the drop on people if you can, then snag their SMG or revolver as a secondary, then save it for those situations you really need to shoot things in.

I played through almost the entire game with the revolver/knife combo and thats how I beat that mission, but I think that it sbetter to get the headhunter because it oneshots every enemy in the head and is super accurate, its a lifesaver against the sledgehammer skellies

The Scythe is pretty bad imo, some missions are basically impossible with it or have to be cheesed hardcore for it to be usable, it also has a tendency to move you too far so that attacks whiff enemies and you get shot in the face.

And after beating this mission - [sp]I found out that you can survive ash explosion by hiding in the vents[/sp] :v:
Does anyone know how you're supposed to get the "Collateral Damage" achievement? I can't find a way to kill the last Dredge Sargent with any of the traps...
looks great! cant wait to try it out myself

throwable hammer/knives are all i need.
I remember playing the free version a while ago. Aside from more levels and new enemies, what else is new?

An actual soundtrack, and a weapon unlock system
An actual soundtrack, and a weapon unlock system
On that note https://chrischristodoulou.bandcamp.com/album/deadbolt, don't suppose you could add this to the OP
[editline]there it is[/editline]
thanks

And the soundtrack is phenomenal.
I can't believe I failed to notice this for a whole week, Risk of Rain is seriously one of my favorite indie games.
I don't think anyone pointed it out, but there's also custom maps.
Just finished this recently, awesome experience all through. Amazing atmosphere and soundtrack and completely solid gameplay, game is really good at making you feel badass doing feats. Now to try and finish [sp]Hard Mode.[/sp]
Does anyone know how you're supposed to get the "Collateral Damage" achievement? I can't find a way to kill the last Dredge Sargent with any of the traps...
I'm assuming you're talking about the last guy with sledgehammer right before the vent to [sp]Timur's Office?[/sp]? What I did is actually kill the rest with the grenade traps and shotgun traps, detonated the 2 mines in the middle, baited the last guy out to go downstairs and quickly ran up again as soon as he went down, entered the vent, killed [sp]Timur[/sp] then when I needed to exit, I baited the last guy again this time for upstairs, went down and ran like hell. This got me the achievement even if I didn't kill the last guy.
Just finished the game. I don't understand much of the storyline, but it was a pretty cool experience all throughout. Solid level design and mechanics. Banging soundtrack as well.

The sledgehammer guy you can easily get past by [sp]quickly going up and then downstairs after he spots you, when he goes down the stairs you can run back up at the same time[/sp] then on the way out you can [sp]take the vent to the roof and jump off to get to your car, there's no fall damage[/sp]

Oh lol I'm blind, [sp]I actually didn't notice that vent, I just went and replayed it and noticed it just after you pointed it out.[/sp]
Anyone with the steam version able to play their own custom levels?
I've tried placing the level in the appdata location and downloading my own workshop submission but neither causes it to show in the custom list.
[editline]update time[/editline]
So the game got updated for some editor additions, hopoo also posted a guide on getting custom stuff in. Looks like I forgot to include the .nc in the filename.

sucks nobody really knows about this game since imho it's def one of the best side scrollers sice NOT A HERO
i think it's better than NOT A HERO, it lacks frustrating stuff like guys being able to punch you out of windows that you slide into.
NOT A HERO suffered from extreme difficulty in later missions. i think i spent like over half an hour on one of those missions where there's like 40 samurai fuckers. it's ridiculous. you have to do everything a certain way and any misstep will cause you to fail. this game kind of does that in later missions too but it's not so ridiculously difficult that it's impossible
i just got to the dredged campaign and insofar i have to say the vampire levels are insanely good
That last fucking mission. Fuck that mission, so hard. Took me legit 2 hours to finish it.
That last fucking mission. Fuck that mission, so hard. Took me legit 2 hours to finish it.
I don't think it was extremely hard even though I died quite a bit, you just have to be patient during that level and remember to count every bullet you have so you don't fuck up certain parts.
suppressed shotgun is the best thing ever
