I figured might as well since there wasn't one before
What is a Battleborn?
Battleborn is a hero shooter with elements of multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA). Players select one of several pre-designed characters with different attacks and skills, and participate in either single player, cooperative matches, or competitive matches with other players. During matches, players gain experience to advance their character along the Helix Tree, selecting from one of two new abilities or buffs with each advancement step that allows the player to create a custom loadout for that character for the duration of that match. Furthermore, as the player completes matches, they earn randomized gear (generated similarly to the Borderlands series' randomized weapon feature) that can also be equipped as part of the loadout to provide further buffs and abilities, or purchased through microtransactions.
The game received mixed reviews upon release, with reviewers citing on the difficulties of learning the complex gameplay systems as being ultimately deep and rewarding but off-putting to new players. Battleborn was overshadowed by Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch, another hero shooter, that was released a few weeks later and which caused a large drop in Battleborn's player count within the month, and Gearbox has made adjustments in pricing and downloadable content to try to draw new players to the game.
In June 2017, it was transitioned to a pricing scheme comparable to a free-to-play title.

Playing it, this game is not that bad, it's really different from Overwatch and Paladins, really, there's a lot of good idea and the heroes are fun to play.
Don't know why it failed like that, maybe it should have been free from the start, and not be released with Overwatch.

Well it's public beta was at the same time as Overwatch's Last closed/Open Beta.
And also It released a few weeks after Overwatch so that didn't help either.

Something I forgot to mention, the free trial puts the entire 22gb game on the hard drive but does the ME3 way of walling off with BUY THE (premium) TO ACCESS IT!"
Because why not.

Battleborn was released around 3 weeks before Overwatch but no one gave a shit because Overwatch was right around the corner.
The moment this game died I knew it would eventually go F2P
Another thing that I forgot to mention:
Make sure to use Shift codes! They help remove tiny bits of the grind by giving you free stuff with copy and paste!

Game's still a shit show really, I wonder if they improved the servers though so I can actually play on my own and not get disconnected.
Turns out I CAN play on my own, but wanting to do so is another thing entirely, since it's piss boring, took 2 minutes to find 1 other player and then ended up losing connection to the other person anyway.
I bought this game a little after release at a ebgames
They still had tons of preorder copies. They had a huge display of em lol

this game is not worth your hard drive space. You'll get stuck with 6 garbage champions, like Oscar Mike (geddit his name is like the NATO phonetic alphabet that soldiers use ecks deeeeee) - a guy who plays like a janky, unpolished CoD clone and whose personality boils down to "CoD memes from 2007"
It'll take hours to grind for a new champion. I got 5 hours in and had enough for a cheap guy... Fuck this game, fuck Gearbox and fuck Pitchford.
My only real gripes with battleborn is how boring it is to play solo, the grind, and how harsh the graphics are on the eyes (The game is beautiful as hell though)
oh and the fov + friggin gigantic viewmodels

You could re-enter a normal sleep cycle for the time it takes to find a match still.
Also, The SHIFT codes are broken for a lot of people.
Just completed a mission by myself after it kicked out the other single person, it was honestly quite boring, I don't mind the Tower Defence style of the mission I played but then that's just because I like TD stuff, but it was just, boring.
Uninstalling it once again, not sure if I'll ever bother playing it again to be honest, pretty flat game with obnoxious 'le memes' and fucking horrible dialogue in general.
One of the things Im noticing is that the most interesting/less memey characters are the most expensive.

That's true. Does his ENTIRE left arm really need to be in the shot.
That's true. Does his ENTIRE left arm really need to be in the shot.
Well it does since it's part of his melee animation where he flicks people to death.
Speaking of flicking, that robot sniper is rediculous.
I honestly believe that they should have jumped the heroes available to 8 or 10
The reason being that it would be a good way for newer players to see the different play styles besides "Lead + chest = good times"
all the heroes and campaigns should be free. They can charge for cosmetics and any post-f2p content but right now they need to rebuild a playerbase.
I hate rotations.
Is it legit impossible to fucking find a match
Nobody even wants to play Battleborn for free. Randy better start paying people to play this, because it's pretty embarrassing.
Nobody even wants to play Battleborn for free. Randy better start paying people to play this, because it's pretty embarrassing.
Its weird, but it's actually been going up.
It's up to 1.3k (as of right now anyway): http://steamcharts.com/app/394230
So... what are those people doing? I've matched with 1 person this entire time

That's not nearly as high as I'd expect a game going F2P would draw in. Though I guess that their numbers were previously dwindling at ~500 or so.
I don't expect the player base to climb much higher, either. Too little, too late for a game that's largely out of people's minds at this point.
It seems like f2p/new players have their own matchmaking so the "big guys" don't stomp them into oblivion how it was on reddit famous Battleborn Day.
I say the main problem in vet vs new is having most of juicy gear which can lead to pretty scary builds.
Oh and complain about download size is pretty dumb. Nobody gave a shit about it during Fallout4/CoD free weekends and TitanFall free trial.
I'm seriously disappointed with this "Free-To-Play" version.
I can't play PvE mode (all I get is Lost connection to server) ... and there is no indication that "Free users" can't play it.
Yep. Screencap from stream.

New players are locked with other new players till CR20.
I'm serious, I can't find a single match, this is silly

Make sure you have the right download region in steam settings. UK and Germany is pretty good for EU.
Went to a store called Five Below yesterday and found at least 20 copies of this game for the Xbox One priced at $5 each. :v:
So it's day 4 of F2P Battleborn, and it seems the game has settled on around 1k+ players in the morning hours.
Granted with both Paladins and Overwatch getting a double xp weekend this week it could dampen the numbers but who knows
