Resident Evil, known as Biohazard (バイオハザード Baiohazādo?) in Japan, is a survival horror video game based media franchise created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara[1][2] and owned by the video game company Capcom. The franchise focuses around a series of survival horror video games, but has since branched out into comic books, novels, and novelizations, sound dramas, live-action films, animated sequels to the games, and a variety of associated merchandise, such as action figures. The series' overarching plot focuses on multiple characters, and their roles in recurring outbreaks of zombies and other monsters, initially due to the release of the T-virus, but still more biological weapons over time, created mainly by the fictional Umbrella Corporation and various other organizations in later games.
- Wikipedia
With Resident Evil 7's release just round the corner I found it fit to make a thread for one of the world's most iconic survival horror series.

RESIDENT EVIL 7: Biohazard.
Resident Evil 7 brings a major and must needed overhaul to the series, stripping back the nonsense of Resident Evil 5 & 6 to bring a game more akin to classic Resident Evil in a first person environment.
The game is set in 2017, approximately 4 years after the events of Resident Evil 6 in the fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana in the Southern United States. It features a new protagonist named Ethan Winters,[6] a civilian who offers fewer combat skills than most previous Resident Evil main characters.[2] Ethan is searching for his missing wife, Mia, which leads him to a derelict plantation mansion, home of the Baker family.[6][7]
Resident Evil: Revelations 1 & 2.
The Resident Evil Revelations series serves as minor spin offs from the mains game story arch, instead focusing on special operation missions carried out by series favourites Chris, Jill, Barry and Claire Redfield, with gameplay catered towards fans of the Resident Evil 4/5 era. Revelations 2's Raid mode is actually pretty fun!

Resident Evil 6
Blending action and survival horror, Resident Evil 6 promised to be the dramatic horror experience of 2013, but instead brought us one of the most confusing, frustrating and polarizing gaming experiences ever. Mercenaries is pretty good tho.
On 24 December 2012, Jake Muller, a mercenary of the fictional South-Slavic Edonian Liberation Army and son of late bio-terrorist Albert Wesker, flees from the authorities during a bio-terrorist attack. He partners with Division of Security Operations (DSO) agent and Raccoon City survivor Sherry Birkin, who was sent to Edonia to ensure that Jake escapes safely from the country so his blood can be tested for anti-bodies for the newly developed C-Virus. At the same time, Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) Captain Chris Redfield and his team, including sniper Piers Nivans and demolitions expert Finn Macauley fight against rebels infected with the C-Virus (referred to as "J'avo"). However, they are attacked by the leader of Neo-Umbrella, who refers to herself as Ada Wong and kills most of the BSAA members including Finn by using a device that injects them with the C-virus turning them into monsters, except Chris and Piers. The aftermath causes Chris to go into self-imposed exile, being afflicted with post-traumatic amnesia. Meanwhile, Sherry and Jake's extraction from Edonia by the BSAA is sabotaged, forcing the pair to crash into the mountains, eventually leading to their capture by Ada.
Resident Evil 5
A pretty solid action game with some semblance of survival elements still present. Provided a pretty weird conclusion to the Chris/Jill/Wesker arch, fun at the time, not the game you should introduce a new comer into the series with however.
Fuck Sheva.
Resident Evil 5, known in Japan as Biohazard 5 (バイオハザード5 Baiohazādo 5?), is a survival horror third-person shooter video game developed and published by Capcom. The seventh major installment in the Resident Evil series, the game was announced in July 2005. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in March 2009 and for Microsoft Windows in September of that year. It was re-released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 28, 2016. Resident Evil 5's plot involves an investigation by Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar of a terrorist threat in Kijuju, a fictional region of Africa. Chris soon learns that he must confront his past in the form of an old enemy, Albert Wesker.
resident evil 4
Arguably one of the greatest entries to the series and probably one of the most important games of it's generation, Resident Evil 4 changed the series direction completely and was executed incredibly well, effortlessly blending Survival horror and action, the series was made GREAT AGAIN (for a while).
Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2, former Raccoon City police officer Leon S. Kennedy (Paul Mercier) is sent on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham (Carolyn Lawrence), the U.S. President's daughter, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult.[13] He travels to a nameless rural village in an unspecified part of Spain, where he encounters a group of hostile villagers who pledge their lives to Los Illuminados ("The Enlightened Ones" in Spanish), the cult that kidnapped Ashley.
Resident Evil – Code: Veronica
[img_thumb]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Resident_Evil_Code_Veronica_X_logo.png[/img_Thumb]
I remember asking why this wasn't just called Resident Evil 4 when it was initially released (with the actual reason being that it'd be too close to Resident Evil 3's release date which was in the same year.) Code Veronica is the first Resident Evil of it's generation, being initially released on Dreamcast, followed by a PS2 port (CVX) and was ported to Xbox 360 and PS3 in HD later. This game is tough as fuckin' nails, definitely a game that should be left to fans of the series. Pretty good, not the most memorable Resident Evil but there's a lot of set pieces that are kick ass.
The story follows Claire Redfield, her brother Chris Redfield, and Steve Burnside in their efforts to survive a viral outbreak at both a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean and a research facility in Antarctica.
Resident Evil 2 & 3.
The absolute pinnacle of the original PSX Trilogy. Resident Evil 2 & 3 both take place at the same events in time but following 3 different stories. These games pretty much defined Survival Horror as a whole (with 3 bearing more resemblance to an action game). These games blew the original's story wide open by incorporating the same Tyrant Virus in a city-like setting, I remember playing it not really previously recalling when a game had ever depicted the horrors of a humanity destroying apocalypse on the same scale the second game did.
The game is set two months after the events of the first Resident Evil,[18] in the Midwestern American mountain community of Raccoon City.[19] Nearly all of its citizens have been transformed into zombies by an outbreak of the T-virus, a new type of biological weapon secretly developed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella.[20][21] The game's two protagonists are Leon S. Kennedy, a rookie police officer on his first day in the local force, and Claire Redfield, a college student looking for her brother Chris. Having just arrived in the city, Leon and Claire make their way to the Raccoon Police Department, seeking protection from the mutated population.[20] However, after a runaway truck crashes into their police car and they are forced to split up after some zombies attack, Leon/Claire make it to the Police Headquarters. The player discovers that the police station is abandoned and that most of the police officers have been killed,[22] and that Chris has left town to investigate the Umbrella headquarters in Europe.[23] With no remaining motivation to stay, the two protagonists split up to look for other survivors and flee the city.[24][25] While searching for an escape route, Claire meets a little girl named Sherry, who is on the run from an unknown creature, and Leon encounters Ada Wong, who claims to be looking for her boyfriend John, an Umbrella researcher.
RESIDENT EVIL: Remake
Without a doubt the best way to play the original game, recently released on PS4, Steam and XBone the remake is probably the most important game of the series. It brought us Resident Evil 1's storyline with less campy voice acting and a 100x more serious and terrifying tone. Everything in this game is just crafted so well and is definitely, probably in the top 3 horror games of all time.
Resident Evil takes place on July 24, 1998, when a series of bizarre murders have occurred on the outskirts of the Midwestern town of Raccoon City. The Raccoon City Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service (STARS), which is divided into Alpha Team and Bravo Team, is assigned to investigate these murders. Bravo Team is sent first, but after contact with them is lost, Alpha Team is sent to investigate their disappearance. Alpha Team locates Bravo Team's crashed helicopter and land at the site, where they are suddenly attacked by a pack of monstrous dogs, one of which kills one of the team's members. After Alpha Team's helicopter pilot, Brad Vickers, panics and takes off alone, the remaining members of the team (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Barry Burton) are forced to seek refuge in a nearby abandoned mansion.
I'd include other main titles like CVX and Zero, but I'm still updating this thread.

FEEL FREE TO DISCUSS RE7 SPOILERS BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST SPOILER TAG THEM!
oh shit re7 is being released in a week? that was sooner than i expected
oh shit re7 is being released in a week? that was sooner than i expected
the marketing for it has been quite hush-hush. Not a lot known about the story (if you're avoiding the spoilers) which is actually kinda cool.
Alternative title for thread could have been "CHRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS"

So can we conclude that RE5 is the best RE in recent years
i just wish the claustrophobic camera controls didn't give me motion sickness
RE6 was one big pile of shit. Glad they are going back to the roots with 7.
So can we conclude that RE5 is the best RE in recent years
It's just extremely quotable. Still fun on a bun though.
Running away from crazy dudes is fine, solving puzzles and carrying letters is good but sitting at that chair and eating with creepy & crazy family is not cool or fun after all. Nope.
Resident Evil 2 is the best RE game
gory is all i wanted to know
for some reason re4 was the previously most gruesome. mostly all of leons many horrible deaths
gory is all i wanted to know

RE4 was the king of good player deaths until probably dead space 1.
Too bad Leon's death moan in normal gameplay sounded like Scooby-Doo busting a nut.
Resident Evil 2 is the best RE game
Eh, my favorite's probably going to stay 4 with 5 slightly behind it. The older games' gameplay frustrates me every time I try to play it because I can never get used to the tank controls.
tank controls rule i don't get peoples issue with them
my biggest issue is that tank controls are too fucking slow
if i have an enemy who suddenly sprung up behind him i can't just snap my view around to hit him i have to ACHINGLY SPEND ABOUT 5 HOURS TURNING THE FUCK AROUND
also hitting things accurately is seriously problematic
tank controls rule i don't get peoples issue with them
The fact that I can't use them and it's a lot more difficult than just pointing a stick in the direction I want to go
So would this be a good purchase for $30-35?
I'm torn between this or just paying credit card bills at full instead of minimum due.
i'm hyped for this, the demo sealed the deal for me

it's a horror game. that's the whole point.

Where have you seen it for $30-35?
it's a horror game. that's the whole point.
If a horror game is built on crippling the player's controls then it's not a very good horror game.
the game is designed around the controls, no enemy is so fast that you can't aim at them with tank controls
also all your points are wrong because:
there is a quick 180 turn in the old re games
your gun autoaims to the closest living enemy
If a horror game is built on crippling the player's controls then it's not a very good horror game.
says someone who is not a fan of horror games then i guess?
also it's not crippled, it's limited. it just seems like yall dont know how to use them?
Can RE7 just fucking come out already?
also it's not crippled, it's limited. it just seems like yall dont know how to use them?
or they're bad
says someone who is not a fan of horror games then i guess?

It is crippled. It prevents you from making your character move like a normal human being could so it is crippled.
or they're bad
i literally just countered the problems a dude had with them? they're not bad, people just aren't used to them and apparently don't know how they work.
in re1 and re0's latest pc ports they've added in a 'modern' movement which turns your player around on a dime, and it's really awful. it doesn't work for the kind of game. but at least the option is there so you can see you're wrong i guess?
I started playing classic RE games for the first time ever last year.
Tank controls didn't bother me much at all personally, but that's because the games were designed with them in mind. If you play REmake HD with the new free movement controls, screen transitions can mess with you if you're not careful, and yet you can juke attacks and zombies so easily it's ridiculous.
It is crippled. It prevents you from making your character move like a normal human being could so it is crippled.
man i want to see how you're playing the game then because they move perfectly human for me. you literally. auto target. enemies. and quick 180 turn. how could u have any issues?
man i want to see how you're playing the game then because they move perfectly human for me. you literally. auto target. enemies. and quick 180 turn. how could u have any issues?
I don't know about you, but personally, I can be standing still and start instantly moving directly to my left or right without having to first slowly turn to face that direction in place. And I don't really like having to rely on auto-aim to be able to hit anything.
I don't know about you, but personally, I can be standing still and start instantly moving directly to my left or right without having to first slowly turn to face that direction in place. And I don't really like having to rely on auto-aim to be able to hit anything.
if you want to strafe in a third person horror maybe you should be playin different games? you also don't need to do it for any degree of success. the whole point of the games is they're meant to be stressful. and that's good. but the enemies are designed around you not being able to strafe, you don't need to do it. and again, if you don't like having to autoaim at enemies, just start with re4. third person survival horrors are not for you.
there is a huge audience though. their success on steam proves this. i love the tank controls and they in no way make me feel limited for the kind of gameplay the game has. only to a degree that is perfectly normal and satisfying.
