WHAT GAMES ARE THESE?
These are the main and most popular Paradox Interactive games buddy. Here's a link to each one, and helpful mods as well:
Europa Universalis 4 (1444 - 1821 AD) (Top left of above picture)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/
Victoria 2 (Bottom left of above picture) (1836 - 1936 AD)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/42960/
Crusader Kings 2 (Top center of above picture) (1066 - 1453 AD) (769 AD start date with Charlemagne DLC)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203770/
Hearts of Iron 3 (Bottom center of above picture) (1936 - 1948 AD)

Hearts of Iron 4 (Top right) (1936 - 1948 AD)

Stellaris (Bottom right) (Idk the future or something)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/281990/
Here is a gameplay video of Hearts of Iron 3:

ARE THERE ANY OTHERS?
Here are the other games, which are less popular, and some of which are more experiments than full games. That doesn't stop them from being fun though.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/73210/ (Basically Crusader Kings 2 inside Japan, has no content don't buy it)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/73170/ (It's essentially Hearts of Iron 2, but reworked)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/23420/ (A really weird one set in the Roman Empire, that nobody plays)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/227760/ (March of the Eagles, Napoleonic wars)
ANY FUTURE ONES?
There's also a bunch of new games coming up (not really):
Stellaris
Hearts of Iron 4

East vs West (Hearts of Iron 3 for the Cold War) CANCELED
GOOD NIGHT SWEET PRINCE
HOW DO I PLAY THE GAME?
Each game plays differently. Play through all the tutorials that the game supplies (you can skip the broken parts), read the manuals, and go through the wikis on Paradoxian. Then play through a game. It's alright if you lose, as long as you learn from your mistakes. If you're at a loss, then you can ask in this thread.
Here is a long /gsg/ post about babbys first Europa Universalis 3 game by the way.

WHICH NATION FIRST?
Crusader Kings 2: Anywhere in Ireland or Denmark. Play as a duke.
Europa Universalis 4: Castille, France, England, or Brandenburg.
Victoria II: Prussia, Netherlands, USA, Japan, or Canada.
Hearts of Iron 3: Germany, Italy, Japan, USA.
You might think that choosing a really small or really big nation will save you from getting buttfucked. Nope! You'll just get overwhelmed, and then other countries will annex you since you have no idea what to do.
WHICH GAME DO I GET FIRST?
EU4 and CK2 are both newbie friendly to the series, HOI has a steep learning curve but don't let that discourage you can start with whatever game interests you.
WHY DOESN'T MY GAME LOOK GOOD?
If you're playing Europa Universalis 4, you probably need a map border mod.
WHERE CAN I GET MODS?
WHY CAN'T I SEE THE MOD FORUMS?
WHERE CAN I GET THE LATEST BETA PATCH?
Check the games page linked earlier for popular /gsg/ mods, or head over to the Paradox Forums.
Make an account and register your games or you won't be able to access the mod and tech support forums. The tech support forums have the latest beta patches, so if Steam is acting up if you want to try the latest beta, head over there. Usually, the beta patches are available on the games page
You need your CD key to register your game.
If you're having trouble, there's usually a help guide on how to register on every subforum.
WHAT ARE SOME POPULAR MODS?
Hearts of Iron 3:
Historical Plausibility Project (HPP)
BlackICE (BICE)
August Storm
Crusader Kings 2:
CK2 Plus
Historical Immersion Project
CK2 A Game of Thrones
Elder Kings
Europa Universalis 4:

WHERE CAN I GET THEM?
You can get most Paradox games on Steam, as well as their expansions and DLC.
If you don't like Steam, or it doesn't have the game you're looking for, then try other places like Gamersgate, Amazon or even physical local retailers such as Gamespot or even Walmart.
We have a steam group as well, if you wanna join it. Asking some of the players (including me) might help with your queries too.

If I missed anything or need to change something, yell at me to change the OP.
You should probably replace every gsg website with something else. I think the gsg website went down a year ago or so.
[editline]13th January 2015[/editline]
EvW is more deader than a dodo bird too and obviously eu4 is out already
The OP is now not from the Neolithic age.
Reccomend me some mods to add to it, I don't play anything besides CK2 or HOI3.

For EU4, we have the Extended Timeline mod, Veritas et Fortitudo, MEIOU and Taxes, Dei Gratia, Conquest of Australia, Divide et Impera IV, Aurora Universalis and the Extended Vanilla Experience mod.
Meanwhile, Vic2 has the POP Demand mod, the Modern Age Mod, Divergences of Darkness, the New Nations Mod and a mod that lets you play in the world of Code Geass.
But that's just looking at the Paradox Forums. I know there is a /gsg/ for Vic2, if I'm not mistaken.
Also, under "WHICH NATION FIRST?", it still says EU3. And for "ANY FUTURE ONES?", you should probably add HoI4.
guess im going to have to post more pictures of me murdering siblings and fucking my grandchildren for this thread

So I've been playing Extended Timeline for the first time and realizing how little EUIV appeals to me when I can't colonize the Americas.
The game feels so boring when all I can do is expand and click a button to change cultures and religions. Doing stuff like conquering Egypt as Israel is fun until nothing can stop me, and then I just sit there.
Victoria 2 is a lot more interesting to me.

I can't catch a break in my current game as Wallachia. My 5/6/3 died after 4 years on the fucking throne, become a Von Habsburg 3/4/2, dies after 10 years. Play a 5/2/4, get the 'Habsburgs stick together' event, 33% chance monarch dies, dies after 7 years. Regency for 6 year old 1/4/1, get the 'Habsburgs stick together' and my goddamn regent dies after a glorious 93 days. Besides that, Poland and Ottomans keep warning me not to go to war with anybody while they ass fuck every available country in the vicinity. I mean, sure game, I didn't want to have fun anyway.
So in my current game of CK2 I'm playing a tribal start as the Norse and I've just formed the Merchant Republic of Scandinavia. There's been a lot of teething troubles but ever since the Norse Holy Warriors have shown up I'm actually able to defend myself effectively.
It's also been a while since I've played a Merchant Republic and I'm enjoying the bonuses it gives.
New HOI4DD http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/content.php?2078-Hearts-of-Iron-IV-Developer-Diary-12-Internal-Politics&
http://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive
Hoi4 stream started a bit a go.
I was doing really well as Wallachia in EUIV (eventually) all for it to be ruined by a stupid fucking bug. I declared war on Poland with Russia and Austria backing me up, but Austria never joined the war. Alliance never broke, I got no messages telling me they'd peaced out, jack all. I looked on the Paradox forums, bug confirmed as something to do with religions... Austria being Catholic and Russia being Orthodox. Couldn't even call to arms manually, so I sit there getting stomped on by Poland with no help while Russia promptly falls apart to rebels - lose 200 years of progress. Sometimes I wonder why I even play this game, I just come out at the end frustrated to all fuck, every patch it's something else, fucking arr ranty rant rant.

This actually looks really neat, I'm not sure what to think of the game so far. If Paradox lives up to their promise of counters and maybe adds more small scale units to the game ala HOI3 it could be great.
Adding some other foreign policy options would be nice too, I'd like to see a super socialist France or something that supports the Comintern.

If I understood correctly from the Live Stream other countries can influence you and the party just like HOI2
Unit icons are going to stay the way they are currently, there will just be an option to have NATO style images instead of a helmet, tank etc.
The Stream is archived here http://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive/b/611836032
They answered question on the stream, and in the thread.
[editline]16th January 2015[/editline]
Oh, and HOI4 won't have Union Tags
union tags?
i cringed really hard at the SEDUCE YOUR RELATIVES during the Way of Life ad in the Q&A livestream
union tags?
Things like Scandinavia, Baltic Union, etc. Countries that are formed by more then 1 country.
Things like Scandinavia, Baltic Union, etc. Countries that are formed by more then 1 country.
That sucks, that and no flag changes will really hurt the game for me.
That sucks, that and no flag changes will really hurt the game for me.
Well I understand their reasoning for Both. nothing like that really happened between 1936-1946 or when ever it ends. Nothing major that would be worth the effort of coding in.
I'm sure modders will add Scandinavia and the like.
Regardless, it should have the capacity for that so modders can play around. It can't be that hard to add in flag switching or a method to inherit a players country and switch to the new one, its been done in Vic 2 already.
I just want the game to be mod friendly, it will add so much lifespan to their products if they bothered to make the game easier to fuck about with.

modders for EUIV haven't been able to yet.
any good tutorials for people new to CK2?
any good tutorials for people new to CK2?
The best tutorial is to dive right in. Pdox games always have piss-poor/broken tutorials so many dont even bother with them. My advice is to start in Ireland aka "Tutorial island" or if your brave in Spain.
modders for EUIV haven't been able to yet.
I meant for Union tags, not flag switching.

They're not the same branch/version of the engine. HOI 3 didn't even have it.
It isn't needed, so they won't add it. Why would they add something they don't need?

Like I just said, mods. Why do devs released development kits for games? Its not vital for gameplay yet they still do it.
What should I do as Djerid in EU4?
I wish it was possible to reclaim territory from colonies/reclaim entire colonies in EUIV. I do actually quite like the whole colony system, except for the fact that:
1. As mentioned, you have no ability to annex land/the colony later on down the line - this makes creating colonies quite a risky business as you never know if you might need direct control of land later on.
2. Colonies are too area specific. As are trade companies. What if I wanted to set up a trade company in America, and a colony in India? Can't do that.
My current predicament, as Britain, is that I can't construct the Panama Canal because I created British Colombia* and I therefore am not classed as the 'owner' of Panama.
*The game called it English Colombia by default - even when as Britain. Being a bit OCD, I changed it to fit. It only struck me much, much later after creating the colony that something seemed a bit off about it's name...
dat feel when you contribute the most to a crusade and you get all dat land

Charlemagne start
Forming the HRE is gonna take so long...
So apparently in Way of Life your character can upgrade his education trait through a random event provided you have the correct focus.
Real example: My character got Thrifty Clerk when his guardian was Midas Touched, and I have the Rulership focus. After a few events he went up to Fortune Builder.
Before only Martial education could upgrade. That's neat because my characters have kept getting fucked in regards to their education.
