About the Game
Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around the idea of "being thrown into the world". Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself.
Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.
Gameplay Features
Cohesive lived-in world – Each region is a maze-like structure with various rooms and paths to discover. Living and breathing world, inhabited by many lifeforms, is yours to explore. But, be warned, for each action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Environmental storytelling – All the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the world you’re in. Remember to keep your eyes open – the game won’t show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels.
Creature behavior – Denizens of Scorn have their own twisted lives and personalities. They can be curious, afraid, hostile, neutral and anything in between. They will react and adapt to your actions and the changes you bring to their environment.
Fight or flight – The game has different rules that you have yet to learn if you want to survive. You will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how your actions affect everything around you.
Inventory and ammo management – Defined and limited, it plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Different play styles will be needed to advance.
Full body awareness – Players will experience better immersion being aware of the character’s body and movement. Interaction with the environment is realistic – objects are picked up with your hands, machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls and every action takes time.
Contextual puzzles – A few things will look familiar, as strange machinery merged with organic forms fill the scenery. Discover the secrets of this odd technology so you could progress further. Everything has a reason and purpose – you just need to work out what it is.
God I'm dying to hear/see more about this game. It's been months since that trailer came out
It looks like some bizarre Giger style alien planet.
I like it.
If they don't fuck it up, I wouldn't mind buying this game for the visuals alone.

I keep mixing this one up with the other game. I think this has more potential and looks absolutely great. The vibes from HR Gigers work.. hnnggh
This game looks really interesting, hypu
One guy on Facebook asked why the hands were different and they responded that [sp]it's the same character in the previous trailer[/sp] which makes me think it's going to go full body horror route, with [sp]the start of the game going from you being a normal person into "WHAT IS SKIN I FORGOT" as you are forced to adapt and survive in this living, breathing hell.[/sp]
I have a feeling that this is going to be a bit like Metroid Prime, considering all the navigation and upgrades. Am I wrong in that assumption?
Actually it going to be a LOT like Metroid Prime with way less back-exposition.
Backtracking is not mandatory, but it is a thing and for some places you'll need to alter yourself to access everything.
One of the main differences here is apparently not everything is overtly hostile, but you may not expect to make friends either.
This game looks genuinely interesting, organic architecture is one of those strange concepts, where it's partially familiar but still quite alien.
There's something about the entire aspect of this corruption of the human body that really messes with my head. The fact that this may or may not be a feasible path our species could have taken if something batshit like aliens nuking us while we were still adapting to Earth's atmosphere happened is incredibly unsettling.
I don't know if it would have gone that route, but I kind of get what you're getting at.
Organic architecture is also quite interesting to me. If we could actually GROW buildings, rather than build them, we'd probably have somewhat unpredictable and disordered architecture like this.

I had a showerthought and wondered "what if it's backwards?" [sp]What if you start as one of the many fleshy beings that seem to be melded to the walls of this bad-dreamland, you wake up, rip yourself free and slowly over the course of the game become more and more human till you "wake up for real". I only thought this because they mentioned how the world itself is dreamlike and it reminded me of times when I've had dreams where something is wrong with me physically, like one time the top of my skull was missing and I could touch my own brain. Over time in these dream i would realise how absurd this is, realise I was dreaming, fix myself and wake up[/sp]
For the past two years, our team has been working hard on the development of Scorn. Our studio has grown to over 20 people and we have entered the financial partnership with Humble Bundle, which helped us immensely at the time.
Despite all the struggles we’ve been through since we began working on the Scorn, we are still determined to keep the project alive. We have never compromised on the quality of the game, and we’re not planning to do so now.
We are getting close to completion of Part 1, but we’re not really satisfied with all the aspects of the game. After much internal deliberation, we decided that it would be the best to try and acquire additional resources, taking more time to polish the game, rather than releasing something we’re not entirely happy with.
With all that said, we are pushing the release date for 2018. More development time would give us an opportunity to expand the scope and polish the game the way we really want to. And in order to make all this happen, we decided to organize a Kickstarter campaign to acquire the necessary resources.
The Kickstarter campaign will launch on September the 5th, along with a brand-new gameplay trailer. We immensely appreciate your support, and we have prepared both physical and digital rewards for our backers. To show our gratitude, we are working hard to make a game demo available for all our supporters and give you a first-hand Scorn experience.
We have added a newsletter subscription to our website, and we will send regular updates about the campaign and the game’s development to anyone who wishes to subscribe. You can also help us spread the word by backing us on Thunderclap, so we could send the message far and wide through social media.
It is such a bad joke that their last kickstarter was as largely ignored as it was, especially when games with half as much promise manage to make ten times as much cash. I'm really glad they're taking a second try at it. I'm not 100% sure i'm reading this right but I reeeaaally hope that demo they're talking about will indeed be ready during the kickstarter duration. Absolute best way to ensure a game kickstarter is successful is to have something people can actually play, so if that ends up happening then this second attempt should go infinitely better than the last. But even if it doesn't word about this game has spread a shit ton since the first kickstarter attempt so it should go well regardless. Fingers crossed.
I hope that means mid 2018, shall be a mastapeice. I really hope they get the money they need to keep the entire team paid and working, swapping members around on such a tightly knit project could cause a problem with the games vision/end product.
I would imagine that they can show off a bit more of the game now, should be most of the plot and environments set in stone by now.
I'm still really looking forward to this but I'm sorta glad that it's planned to launch in 2018 because there's too many good games I have yet to play in 2017. :garryspin:
Imo the issue is there just isn't enough stuff available to the public yet
I love the artstyle but I have no idea if the gameplay will be good, being mysterious and unknown is cool and all but if you want me to cough up dosh I need to have at least a minor idea of what the game is like.
I've seen guns and I've seen exploration but I have no idea if the game will be a fast shooter like quake, a slow horror game like silent hill or 90% sneaking simulator with the occasional bit of gun very rarely.
i'm down for any of the above but I'd like to at least know (and see some of it in action) just so I know they haven't only made really pretty levels.

well ideally this brand new gameplay trailer they've been working on for about 3 or 4 months now will clear that up next week, and also the demo if they do release it during the kickstarter like i hope to god they do. tho if i had to guess i'd say it's probably gonna be more like the third thing you said, tho not so much sneaking as there will be exploring.
I want this to stand up to the quality of its trailers, and be remembered as the most visually offensive, repulsive, and menacing game of this generation.
I want people in about ten years from now, look back at horror games, point at this, and talk about how visually uncomfortable this is, and I hope the game-play stands up to that test of time. It's the least attractive game I can think of, I hope the horror experience and game play is equally as terrifying.
All of that I mean in a good way
[editline]30th August 2017[/editline]
The visuals can totally stand up to an excellent game. It has everything that it needs.
Obviously though I can only judge it by visuals because that's all I can see. I have no idea what the hell this game is going to be like and I'm cautious about being too hype for obvious reasons, but damn does it look like visually unique thing.

if this game had even 1/4th of the hype MNo9 had the funding would be stupid high, it wouldn't even be funny.

This reminds me, I made this gif when the first trailer came out:

Hope the final product lives up to expectations!
Steam page for Part 1 is now live: http://store.steampowered.com/app/698670/Scorn__Part_1_of_2__Dasein/ Nothing really noteworthy here yet except system requirements. Also, more concept art

For a second, I thought this was another game. Scorn seems really creepy in its aesthetic, but it isn't straight up hell, like Agony.
Oh fuck I thought this and Agony were the same game
Ah so this is the game I keep remembering of but could never remember the name of. Looks really interesting, I'll probably pick it up after launch.

Man, that looks so fucked up. Like one of Giger's wet dreams. I can't wait to play this.

It kinda reminds me of those hallways filled with Corruption from Dead Space. Except much more fucked up.
