Project Zomboid - What is it?
Project Zomboid is a game, still in alpha stage, well underway to being that zombie game you've always wanted. You know, that one where zombies are actually dangerous and there's hundreds of them on your screen at once. The one where you've wanted to scavenge for loot in hopes to find food and water, while searching for a place to call home away from the madness. The one where you've wanted to push a couch in front of a door and barricade the windows when you're surrounded. The one where you have wanted to build you own base from raw materials against the threat. Oh, and lets not forget we want it to look half decent graphically.
Everything I've mentioned here is already a feature in Project Zomboid, even though it's still in fairly early stages of development, and it's honestly the best way to describe the game - it throws you in an open world, and you have to survive in it.

Shit son, this looks good for multiplayer.. is it planned?
Yes, yes it is. The team however, is working on the gameplay fundamentals before touching that aspect of the game. At the time of writing this the game is shaping up fairly well, and the team expects to be working on MP after a few more updates. But again, the gameplay needs to be absolutely solid first.
Where do I get this game? Steam? How much?
The game is only £4.99 - extremely worth it. The game is currently available on Desura and the game was in one of the first batches to be greenlit, so it'll be on Steam soon. Don't be afraid to buy it off Desura now however; everyone who has bought the game before it releases on Steam will get a Steam key!
What is the community support like? Mods?
An important thing for indie games! The team are always very communicative with their community. You'll find a new update on the progress of the game on their blog every Monday. If you have questions they'll usually get back to you on Twitter or something too. Modding support is already largely supported in the game, which is brilliant! Scripting, custom maps, texture mods, pretty much everything you could want. Next update improves this too, so look out for that.
I bought the game, but I don't have the latest version!
Get it here. The team doesn't like putting unstable builds on Desura and such, so you'll find more buggy, but newer versions on the site and forums.

RC3, the HUGE update. What is it?
This update will almost certainly completely change the experience this game will offer, with months and months of work having been put into it. Almost everything in the game has been revamped in some form since the last version. It is very close to release (the team is in testing phase, even giving it to a few YouTubers) so look out for it! Hell, check the thread - it could already be out (It's not.)
Here is a long list of the changes to expect (from my memory, so do not expect a complete list here!):
- Much larger map. So big it has to stream in new areas now.
- Graphics, sprites, environments, lighting are all improved. No more hideously ugly sprites from the old build!
- Smoother animations, and lots more of them.
- Improved combat. Shove enemies. Blunt weapons more likely to knock over than kill, etc.
- Weather is back, and it's not just cosmetic. Make sure to pack a sweater!
- The meta-game. Simulates everything from hordes, to what human AI is doing.
- Human AI is much more advanced. Now they won't run into hordes of zombies and use a pen to fight.
- Zombies can now be idle, which adds a huge stealth aspect into the game.
- New features such as farming, and camping.
- Much more advanced building system. You can build your own house if you want!
- Skills system is much more improved and means a lot more now.
- UI is greatly revamped, and much more accessible now.
- Sandbox mode with customization settings. You can have classic Romero zombies, or 28 Days Later style zombies.
- Every action you do takes time now. Now you have to stare at loading bars instead of magically doing shit.
- Inventory is revamped. You now cannot carry anywhere near as much stuff, need to rely on bags and shit.
- Backpack is your main inventory now. You can have bags to hold different things, and drop them if need be.
- Crafting is now more streamlined. Don't have to deal with stupid fucking patterns.
- Females.
- New story.
- New menu, doesn't look shitty and flimsy any more. It looks beautiful.
- Statistics about your character. Can also upgrade skills and stuff.
- Lots more doors are locked. You can bash in windows if everything's locked, but make sure not to get a boo-boo.
- Fire is back. Make sure to keep the oven on to keep extra warm during the winter.
- Better modding tools.
- Music is back - and there's much more of it!
- New, and improved sounds.
So yeah, there's just a crazy amount of stuff to look forward to in the next week or two (aka never)

Once (if) vehicles are implemented, having a Left 4 Dead moment where you accidentally bump into a parked car and the alarm goes off would be an amazing-scary feeling! If that's how it would go down which would be cool!

BECAUSE I MADE A MAD FUCKING RADICAL QUESTION AND WAS THE FIRST ONE TO CLAIM THE THREAD. YEAH.
I'd spent an hour and a half writing a completely new and updated thread for RC3's release and posted that I'd done so a few days ago :(
Bleh. Hope you change some of that OP at least.

Send me that and I can replace it! Just because I have the OP doesn't mean I'm not going to change it.

Pm'd you it - thanks.
Keep it updated if needed though ;)
There. Going to change it up a bit
Alarm clocks aren't THAT loud are they?
Edited:
My alarm is loud because its right next to me. I can barely hear it behind a closed door. It wouldn't be heard by anyone outside a house.
My alarm clock is really fucking loud. The only sound that can come from is is static because the radio broke. Then I can also hear it when I'm taking a shower if I forget to turn it off. My shower is about 30 feet away. I wake up at 5 so if I forget to turn it off, everyone wakes up.
Hopefully Lemmy will bring good news to christen the new thread!
I cant wait for the crazed maniac mods to come out.
Just imagine creeping up on a lone woman, trying her best to not be afraid of these monsters.
And here you come up behind her and knock her out, take her back to your safe house.
And have your way with her, making your happiness moodle increase as you rape and torture her.
Ahem, well then yes, cant wait for RC3 yes, yes..
The updated OP is great. short and sweet.
otherwise i can't wait for monday. the blogs have been getting better and better.
also i hope they put in bow weapons, at least a high tech crossbow you could find on a gunrack or something (it is is a gun nutty place in america after all). and you'd be able to retrieve bolts.
the only drawback to using bow weapons would be that you'd have to have a high skill in whatever skill governs performance for these weapons. you'd need a skill high enough where you land headshots most of the time otherwise it's basically like sticking pins into a pin cushion.
so essentially bow weapons could become the weapon of choice for high level character who leveled lots in guns or whatever. i mean it makes perfect sense. and it's completely balanced, it doesn't matter if it's silent, if your character can't shoot all the crossbow would do would attract attention. also aim would be severely reduced due to other shit attributed to being low level as well.
Is RC3 on Monday?
Is RC3 on Monday?
No date on it yet. Doubt it'll be out on Monday though - maybe next Monday with a bit of hope.
I know it's been said about a billion times, but....
I think it's going to be within the next month, guys. I'm so ready.
the way things are going i would not doubt that

Why can't Binky bring news? SADFACE. For that horrendous developer bias I bring no news.
[sp]Here is some news: We are working on sneak anims including the ability to have your back to a wall, shuffle along it, and peek round the corner.[/sp]
You're a great guy, Binky.

<3 Just for that, you get additional news (just for you, mind - no-one else is allowed to read this). We have started work on some parts of the map outside of Muldraugh itself. So soon there won't be nothing to find if you leave town (although given the size of the map, it would be fair to say it's still mostly nothing, if you class trees and shrubs as nothing).
I'm sorry I read that Binky. :o
It's old but I thought I would post this great trailer again due to RC3's progress.

Oh man this is looking good, here's hopes to next week!
Are we getting a steam release straight away? or will it be released then set up on steam at a later date?
Well if I remember right I think they said there going to first release on Desura, then Steam release.
Yeah they said iirc that they had 3 game breaking bugs before desura
im expecting next week for some reason, even though logic says no
