Apparently, GoW 3 is the last one in the series, and is set to (hopefully) release on the 20th September of this year.
[release]
Overview
(shamelessly copied from wikipedia)
Gears of War 3 will feature four-player co-op for the first time in the series. Fully controllable mech suit, called silverbacks, will be available for use in certain parts of the game, armed with a machine gun and rocket launcher. They have two operating modes, in assault mode it is controlled like a standard character, in stationary mode, they lock into position and deploy their armor, as well as cover for other Gears from their legs.
There will be several new Locust enemies in the game, including the Savage Grenadier, the Digger Boomer, the Locust Siege Beast, the Kantus Knight, as well as the return of the Berserkers (both ordinary as well as Lambent). Additionally, the game introduces the new Lambent enemies, such as Drudges, Polyps, and Lambent Stalks.
There will also be new weapons; the Retro Lancer (a lancer with a bayonet attachment), the Digger Launcher (a gun that launches small digging creatures through the ground at high speeds and explode), the Sawed-off Shotgun, Incendiary Grenades and the One Shot (a heavy weapon that, as the name suggests, kills enemies in a single shot).
Four new playable female characters will be introduced: Samantha Byrne, Anya Stroud, Queen Myrrah, and Bernadette Mataki, a character from the Karen Traviss novels. Other new playable character include Jace Stratton, a battle-hardened soldier who appears in the comic series and is mentioned in the second game, and Griffin, leader of a group of human survivors called the Stranded.
Synopsis
Eighteen months after the fall of Jacinto, the Gears have moved to the island of Vectes and are living aboard a converted aircraft carrier called the Raven's Nest. The COG has disbanded and the imulsion that powered Sera's cities has infected and mutated members of the Locust, causing them to become Lambent. The Lambent are evolving into a new enemy that threatens both the Locust and humanity. The Stranded also live on the island along with other survivors from E-Day.[/release]

OP will be updated with more content later on.
If you don't like this game, don't post please, it clogs up the thread with useless arguing.
I enjoy the gears of war series. I own gears of war 2, Six figures (One is the "Headshot locust drone"), The gold lancer replica, Cog tags, All three books and the graphic novel.
Bad picture of my collection.

Gears of war 2 was amazing. nearly cried at some parts
I love how people call this grey and brown the game, even though outside of cutscenes it's pretty colourful, except the human areas, which kind of says something.

The graphic novels are pretty colourful.
The three screenshots you posted are pretty colorful too.
This looks really good for an xbox game. I might have to try it.
Played in the Beta, game feels amazing.
Pretty excited for September when this comes out.
Gears of War is great, I don't get the hate of some people. The story is nothing spectacular but I really like the settings, this war on Serra between the Locust, who live underground and the regular humans. The whole scenery looks awesome, even if it's dark and brown. Feels right to the whole war being nearly lost. Gears is one of the first games who revolutionized the cover system and I simply like it because it feels so dynamic.
The first Gears was awesome, being alone in the darkest and grittiest places, especially that part where you have to travel through light. The second one was also fucking awesome, huge battles, better cutscences and improved story.
The only thing I don't like about Gears 3 are the new outfits of the characters. The arms look just wrong to me.
Beta was my first ever time playing a Gears game, I'm now in love with it.
Anyone else think Gears 2 was alot easier than the first? I played both games on Hardcore.
Yes, the first one is a lot harder. Mainly due to the improved stopping power of the guns in Gears 2.
In the first GoW, when you shoot a locust he will still shoot and run in your direction without stopping or taking cover. Which is sometimes a bit frustrating.
Had great fun in the beta. I hope they made changes to the Sawed-Off shotgun. That gun was the frustrating thing to get killed by.
September cant come faster enough.

It's currently a gamestop exclusive pre-order. Look pretty damn badass.
Imagine killing Locust with a bayonet, with some nice animation that could be very awesome and gorey.

And who else is getting the epic edition?
I love that scene in gears 2 when cole picks up the microphone in that locust base.
gears of war is one of my favorite series of all time
Dizzy is alive in gears of war 3! :buddy:

Best part of the game
Cover-oriented combat has gotten pretty stale imo.
Chest-high walls every ten feet.
brothers to the end

Gears of War has kept it pretty interesting. Gears of War 3 has changed it around a bit with the new cover kick thing (hitting people on the other side of cover when you vault), it does get kinda irritating though.

fuck yeah dizzy is one of the best characters
I'm glad they didn't completely ignore Bernie and added her in. If the multiplayer is as improved as I've been told, I might actually keep playing this after the campaign (though the game itself has gotten a bit stale).

The multiplayer has improved a lot I will admit. it still is the usual shotgun battles but that's how gears multiplayer always was. Now that dedicated servers exist for Gears 3 there no more laggy bullshit and assault rifles are actually useful for once.

Yeah, if you read one of the books (or the graphic novel, I forgot which one) you see that Tai helped Dizzy fight off Skorge, Tai told Dizzy to run while he was holding him off. Apparently Dizzy went back home and saw his 2 daughters again and after that he returns with Betty in Gears 3.

That was the graphic novel, In the "Jacinto's Remnant" book you find that he goes to the island with his two daughters. So he also survived Jacinto's flooding.
Gears of War are so damn good games, I really enjoyed playing through the campaign of both of them (except for the Pseudo horror hospital part in 2).
