F.A.Q.
This looks like a generic modern military shooter. What's so special about it?
Insurgency is a realistic FPS with a focus is on cautious and tactical gameplay. There is no regenerating health, no aiming reticle, no compass, no flashy text when you get a kill. Running and gunning results in a quick and violent death. Insurgency is slow paced and filled with tension, until the silence is broken by the visceral and explosive gunfights.

How is it different from the mod?
With the transition to the CS:GO build of the Source engine, Insurgency has had a major graphical update since the mod, with highly detailed maps, models and animations. The game also features impressive sound and particle effects that add incredible intensity to gunfights. Insurgency also boasts several new brand new maps, as well as some upgraded classics from the mod. Several new gamemodes have been added, such as Search and Destroy, and VIP hunt, as well as a Co-op mode that supports up to 8 players. The game now features the new supply system, which allows you to earn supply points during a match, which can be spent on upgrading your armor, buying new explosives, or fitting your weapon with a wealth of new attachments. The game balance and feel has also been fine tuned, resulting in a game that is leaps and bounds ahead of it's predecessor.

Is this being developed by a different team than the mod?
No, the lead designer of Insmod, Jeremy Blum (also the lead developer of the original Red Orchestra mod), is still heading Insurgency. Several other members of the team are also veterans from Insmod.

Why should I buy this?
If you're sick of FPS games like Call of Duty or Battlefield, this may be right up your alley. It's a wonderful blend of games like Red Orchestra, Counter Strike, and Rainbow 6. If you're interested in an intense and tactical experience then you should definitely consider picking this game up.

Fuck yeah, Insurgency. I didn't play for a month so it was nice seeing the new map and revamped kit selection screen. For whatever reason, I could not change my primary weapon and select the UMP in the version I previously played.
Also some planned features for the future months
-New weapons (FN FAL, M-14, and more) as well as new weapon attachments (Grenade launchers, bipods, and more).
New characters with increased customization and more realistic variety depending on theater (Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia).
-Full body awareness so the player can look down and see their body.
-Cover system where going into iron sights dynamically peers over varying wall heights.
-Vaulting system allowing players to quickly hurdle over low walls without jumping.
-Increased stats support with global stat tracking and leaderboards.
-New achievement sets to be released alongside these major content updates every 1-2 months.
-A “Personal Items” menu from the Main Menu that allows you to track your achievement progress, see personal stats as well as upgrade personal sidearm.
-Improved spectator support and features.
-Steam Machine and Linux support.
-Oculus (virtual reality) support.
-Twitch API integration.
-Major AI improvements, the bringing back modes Outpost and Hunt, and the transformation of Checkpoint into a dynamic mission-based cooperative experience.
M14, fuck yes
Also if you're not sure about buying and want to watch some gameplay, they're livestreaming right now to celebrate the launch:

Lol Bro Team's in the livestream as well
So what are the major differences between this and CS:GO? I played the mod and was wondering if this was worth buying.
So what are the major differences between this and CS:GO? I played the mod and was wondering if this was worth buying.
Weapons kill with about 1 or 2 bullets, depending on their armor and your bullet type. Weapon handling is very different (ADS, freeaim, complex recoil system) Completely different gamemodes and respawn system, lots of customization for your weapons and armor (Foregrips, 4x scopes, laser sights, heavy armor, grenade rigs, etc) Slower tactical pace, larger more open maps.
It hardly plays like Counter Strike, more comparable is Red Orchestra or the original Insmod.
the old mod was great, and i finally bought this now that it's officially released.
perfect to go with my modern military fps fix.
Honestly, to me it really just looks like a cross between CoD Hardcore and CS:GO. I really enjoyed the original mod in its early days, but from both an aesthetic and gameplay standpoint, this seems nowhere near as authentic, different or challenging as the mod.
[editline]23rd January 2014[/editline]
That said, I do really like the look of that Peak map. That's the thing; Insurgency was great with relatively open maps & interesting terrain, but with all the tight, close-quarter urban ones you literally might as well have been playing generic cod/cstrike clone #3526
For all my cynicism, I really do hope I'm wrong. I don't expect to find anywhere near the level of teamwork presented in the videos in public games though.
Used to be part of an Insmod clan a long time ago, quite enjoyed the mod. Might buy this, depending on how much it's improved from the original.
Kinda disappointed with some of their choices in this one. I really appreciated their commitment to authenticity in Insmod. Making sure that all the kit was accurate to reality and that the forces involved were depicted realistically was really neat, and it made the game a lot more immersive.
It just feels like they kinda threw that commitment out the window and are now doing whatever they want. I mean, one of the submachineguns is an mp40. Seriously?
I haven't played this for a little while, but actually the CoD hardcore comparison is pretty good. It's slow and careful, and you have to keep an eye out for people leaning out of cover trying to take potshots at you. I'll definitely be playing a few rounds in celebration of the full release, and I'll report what happens
The gunplay reminds me of Red Orchestra 2
[editline]24th January 2014[/editline]
atleast in the videos
I mean, one of the submachineguns is an mp40. Seriously?
That is kind of weird.
So is this game basically a sort of Arma lite on the source engine?
So is this game basically a sort of Arma lite on the source engine?
Not so much like Arma. Ins isn't trying to be a milsim, it's still got plenty of gameyness. It's a tactical shooter like Rainbow 6 or Red Orchestra.

The videos were actually filmed in public games during the early access. Granted with the new release there are plenty of noob pubbers, but they all sort of rally together a couple rounds in.
Oh wow, this game actually sounds great.
I loved Insurgency mod and this seemed completely different when I first heard about it(and by different I mean generic), but it actually seems better instead of worse.
Interesting gamemodes, no respawn(oh man I fucking love no respawns) and even coop?
Color me interested, I'll buy it for sure one day.

insurgents use anything they can get their hands on, seeing them use ww2 shit isn't unrealistic
I know I've seen a video somewhere of Syrian rebels getting their hands on an entire shipment MP44s

Yes, insurgents have had them, and there are plenty of photos. That said, keep in mind that AK variants are far more popular among insurgents. This is conjecture, but I would think that part of the reason there are so many photos of old ww2 guns in use with insurgents is because they're a novelty.
The mosin is literally a leathal dildo with a scope attached to it.

They've already got the AKM, AKS74U and RPK. You wouldn't want the entire Insurgent's weapon loadouts to be nothing but AK variants would you?

tbh I'd take a few weapons that may be slightly unrealistic for the sake of variety, I could give less a shit about it being super "authentic." I'm playing this as a game, not a simulator. The grittiness and hardcore feel is cool yet at the same time I think it's stupid to be anal about that type of stuff. Even then, insurgents using a lot of shit hardware is not at all unrealistic.
Ended up buying it, hopefully it's worth the money.
But then again I love Red Orchestra 2 and Insurgency looks a lot like it gameplaywise

whatever floats your boat
i just liked the way it was in Insmod better

Someone p much described it perfectly when I was playing, it's like a cross between CS:GO and Red Orchestra.
If it doesn't have that really floaty run animation it isn't the insurgency I knew.
I will most likely pick this up though, looks good so far.
I bought this earlier and had a bash on it for a few hours, I can confirm it plays alot like a modern Red orchestra. I'm really enjoying it so far as a fan of the Arma, RO and Rainbow six games. Feels so satisfying to have a modern setting fps game in which you can down an enemy in 1 or 2 hits, well worth the £6 I paid to be honest.
Does the retail game have the hilarious English voiceovers for the terrorists that Insmod had? I loved them. For the brief time I played Insmod, I got a huge kick out of how they said "reloading" as "re-load-ing" and how they said "Allahu Akbar" in the most bored voice possible.

They aren't the same voices unfortunately. But you get plenty of people shouting Allahu Akbar over voice chat.

I just remember playing Insurgency Mod when it first came out, and i spent 30 minutes getting gunned down in my spawn by guys wish SAWs. I'll have to give this a shot!
