Captivus is a Collectible Card Game that I have been creating for the last 3 years. It originally started as LackeyCCG plugin 3 years ago based on the game Starcraft. It's now mutated into it's own game that is set to release for the PC with Multiplayer and a Singleplayer campaign in the works. My game is a unique and refreshing perspective on the Collectible Card Game Genre, and while it still needs work to be considered complete, it is in a playable state. So without further ado, let's discuss the gameplay!
Gameplay
Board Layout
[t]https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/847094133789957431/EBF2F6A36DE0B0E5DBEE66BC960E5377035F328F/[/t]
This is the board layout, as you can see, there are several slots for you to deck out your ship with Shields, Hulls, Engines, Turrets, and units to both board the enemy ship, and defend from their counter attack! Every slot is important, and every card will help increase your ships chance of survival! Let's discuss each slot in detail.
Boarding Party
The boarding party is where you place your "Unit" type cards. These units can board the enemy ship, destroy their shields, defenders, hull rooms, engine rooms, and commanders. A good boarding party is vital to ensuring you deal the most damage to the enemy. While they can't attack a ship directly, the damage they can inflict inside will let your ship live longer, and help your turrets finish the ship off.
Defender
Defenders are taunt units. If you were to try and attack an opponents Boarding party, or shield room, or engine bay, or commander, you would fail if they have a defender unit up, as they intercept all incoming damage and recieve it instead. They are vital to the success of your ship in combat, and playing a decent defender can really shape the game.
Turrets
Turrets are the only card type that can directly attack a player's health. They are the most important card as they are what wins the game. Play them in combination with Boarding Parties and Defenders to secure victory!
Commander
The commander card type gives you the capability of offering board wide buffs/debuffs to yourself/enemies. They are usually stronger cards and offer some beneficial effect. Letting an enemy commander sit on the playing field for too long can result in a huge advantage for your enemy. Destroy them swiftly, or you could see the tables turn quickly.
Shield
The shield card type is your first line of defense against turrets. Shields will always intercept any turret damage done to them and can help you stay in the fight just a little bit longer.
Engine and Hull
These card types offer minor buffs to your ship, such as +1 mana per turn, or +2 health per turn. They may seem like little things, but playing them will help you accelerate your advantage over the enemy.

The Deck Builder: Here you can build a deck to face off against rivals.

A Trap card: Leaving these in play can be dangerous, but sometimes attacking them can result in an even worse outcome for you.

A shield card: This one is low tier, but highly effective in the early rounds.

Final Notes:
I would like to invite all of you to check out the gameplay reveal on Wednesday(Or if you grab a key in time, try it yourself when you finish downloading it) August 16th, 2017, at 8:00 PM EST. You can find it on our Twitch channel, http://www.twitch.tv/captivusgame
I would also like you to try out Multiplayer, the more people we have playing against each other, the better I can balance the game.
Grabbed a key, can't wait to try it!
Grabbed a key, can't wait to try it!
Thanks! I hope you like it. It still needs a lot of work but I'm hoping to really put the final touches on it over the next coming months. Bug fixing and graphics overhauls are the top priorities before it goes Early Access in December.
Not my kind of game, but that's super cool man. I hope it takes off!
Grabbed the two bottom keys for me and my friend! I've always loved CCG's, so hopefully it'll be fun :D
I went ahead and updated the OP to remove the taken keys already. Only 10 remain!
Played two matches and the tutorial/campaign thing, and tried to make my own deck. The game seems fun but it's EXTREMELY confusing at first. Also me and my friend couldnt connect to eachother sadly :/
I would suggest not flipping the enemies cards when they're in play, it makes it way harder to recognize what it actually is, and is made even worse by the mirror'ed board. I kinda wish it was more like hearthstone where both players graveyards are on the same side, turrets are on the same side etc, that would make it way easier to understand for the players when starting out.
Another issue i had was in the deck builder it was close to impossible to read the text of the cards, which made it pretty hard to make a deck.
Also during a match it's kinda annoying that your cards energy cost are hidden behind other cards.
My final thought is that it seems like if you have a lot of boarders you instantly win the game, since the enemy has no chance to play anything, but that might be because i don't understand some of the deeper mechanics yet.
Anyways, these are just some thoughts after playing a bit, i know the game is in early alpha so i know a lot of these things will hopefully be fixed later on.
Was fun though! And good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I receive the "extremely confusing" bit a lot, and I'm hoping when the Tutorial is finally finished, it can help rectify that situation entirely. I too agree that it is very hard for new players to get an early grasp and I want to fix that as soon as I can.
Didn't know there was an issue with the Deck builder, I'll look into it.
I'll also take a look into restructuring how card hands are layered, perhaps having it fan out when you're ready to play, like in Hearthstone.
Boarding Party can be very punishing if you let the enemy build up 4 of them. Sometimes that can come down to Luck of the Draw and I am working on cards that can rectify the situation that isn't just a 9 Energy cost Tactical Nuke. While every card is going to have RNG, it shouldn't be the sole determining factor in losing or winning a game. As we hit the 100 card milestone, the depth to the game will certainly increase and it won't just be "Play boarding party to win". Although my suggestion is to the C3-J5 Rollers as cheap suicide cards to destroy large boarding parties. They deal 1 extra damage to their attacker on death, and are cheap to play so can definitely help you out. That and dropping two Lasers or X-14 Rail guns and then playing a big salvo. If you have Agsardian Lasers out, and use Big Salvo, it'll let you hit for 18 damage total that turn, while Railgun will let you hit for 8.
Is there any way you can Pastebin me your log files in the Saved folder? This will help me identify the problem with you and your friend connecting to each other.
Sure! i had like 7 files in that folder so just gonna paste them all.

You and your friend should be able to play each other using the Find Match button. Based on the log files I don't see Steam creating a lobby so I'm assuming that you are just hitting Play, which would doesn't use Steam and is meant for Singleplayer only.
Awesome news! Twitch and Giant Bomb have officially approved my game in their directories, so now you can stream it. The other big news is that I'll be live streaming tomorrow the gameplay previews for those who haven't gotten a key yet!
[editline]15th August 2017[/editline]
Only 7 keys of the 15 remain so grab them now!
Gameplay livestream goes live in 15 minutes over at https://www.twitch.tv/captivusgame
Check it out!
Awesome news! Card libraries will from having 47 cards to only 10 cards at the start. Instead, you will have to play and win games to unlock new cards.
There is still 5 more keys left in the OP to be claimed.

Unlockable cards, and the UI overhaul.
Patch 1.4.1 released
New Cards
Monument of Injustice -•At the beginning of your turn, you gain one life, and the enemy loses one life.

Captain Mal(Commander) -•Captain Mal can attack enemy units, defenders, and turrets.
Card Changes
Grand Engineer Oleinas - Ability changed from "Reduces energy cost of cards in your hand by 1" to "Grand Engineer Oleinas is active for 5 turns. While he is active, he will give a +1/+1 buff to all units, defenders, and turrets at the beginning of each turn."
J-54 Defender - Damage changed from 2 to 1. Health changed from 4 to 3.
Micro Assault Drones - Ability changed from "Can attack both units and the enemy ship." to "The Micro Assault Drones can attack both ship and unit. It's health is the amount of drones currently in stock, and it's attack will always be equal to it's health."
Armory now correctly informs the player that the effect does not stack.
Bug Fixes
Plasma Torch should now damage the enemy.
Hey all, game is currently in review for early access! Hopefully Valve will get back to me soon and I can get you guys an official launch date. With the Early Access launch will also come a huge patch, including several new cards, stat tracking(wins, losses, draws) and a lot of particle fx updates.
The new patch aims to bring a lot of polish to the game as well as begin transitioning most of the client side tracking to server side tracking. This is to prevent cheating and will hopefully build a competitive community inside the game.
Hey guys!
Save the date: October 3rd, 2017!
Captivus will be releasing into Early Access on October 3rd, 2017. It is currently on the steam store if you wish to add it to your wishlist: http://store.steampowered.com/app/686940/Captivus/
I know it does say free-to-play, but that was due to a mixup with Valve, and we will be getting that resolved so that we can offer Early Access contributors better rewards for when the game finally does go free-to-play.
[editline]20th September 2017[/editline]
I'm posting on my alt since i forgot the login information to my other one.
60 Cards! With that being said, I can finally push out Patch 1.4.3, which introduces The Old Gods!
Strange and mysterious things are happening in the Galaxy. New cults have drawn the attention of many a space traveler, as they promise untold riches and power. Welcome to the age of Ydos, the Old One!
Patch 1.4.3

-High Priestess of Ydos - When the High Priestess comes into play, her health is equal to your total devotion to Ydos, multiplied by two.

-Xoyor, Destroyer of Worlds - Xoyor damages the enemy ships health directly for 2 damage at the end of it's owners turn.
-Ydos - Ydos always has the same attack as his health. Ydos' gains health everytime one of his worshippers does. His health on spawn is equal to the total amount of health gained. He will only spawn if all three cultists are on the board at the same time(Ydosa Cultist, High Priestess of Ydos, and Shade of Ydosa.)
UI Updates
-A tutorial page has been added to both the Settings menu in the Main Menu, and the Pause Menu, so you can easily access information about the game while playing.
